Planning a route on the hills south of Loch Awe tomorrow and couldn't see how to link the Lecainn forest track into the forestry and windfarm roads above Loch Glashan. Bothy is in the middle of that link so seeing your vid was helpful. Going a bit under biked compared with you so have chosen different route😆
@@go_explore I imagine it would take a lot of time to edit to 15 or 20 minutes. A challenge with such long climbs must be carrying enough water going up for two hours or more.
I did a version of this ride with my son (57) when I was 82. We started in Largs and over two days went via Arran Lochranza, Claonaig Tarbert, Portavadie and ferry over to Bute. . Finishing back to Largs .Temperature in September was 28. Then we drove down to York. Great son and dad trip
Hi Tom, thanks for commenting on my video. What an amazing trip for you and your son and you got amazing weather too.. There are so many options and I am also planning another trip this year with my wife but at a more leisurely pace so that i can enjoy the surroundings more...
Brilliant and great coverage of the badger, something I really needed to see which has helped me decide on going via the badger instead of going down to Oban and over to Ayr for the full End2End (Downhill). Thanks for showing!
Glad you enjoyed the coverage. This was my first 'proper' bikepacking trip and it remains the best. The Badger is an epic route. Of course, I was also super lucky with the weather when I did it.. Hope you enjoy :)
Great video. Good to see the wild places in all their glory. My friend and I are planning to do this ride and get the two hills in before the summer is out. But think I might not camp.....or camp on the road! Those midges just love the heather. Can you tell me if there are any locked gates I'd have to heave my E-bike over (don't judge me! I'm old). BTW congratulations on your Gaelic pronunciation of the hill names.
Thanks for commenting on my video.. An ebike would be great on this route. I reckon that Bynack More would be rideable all the way with a little assistance (or someone fitter than me). There are no gates on the route although there was that section I had to man handle the bike onto a temporary bridge.. My pronunciation is not great unfortunately and you are the first person to give me positive feedback in that aspect :) Hope you have a great trip
This was really well filmed and edited well done, thanks for sharing it with us sir. I am thinking of walking it in April with a couple of cheeky wildcamps here and there.
Thanks for you comments.. Hope it gave you a good overview of the route.. I have hiked/ran sections in addition to the weekend trip I did and it is an epic route.. Lots of good locations for wild camping too (especially the section between Helensborough and Balloch)
what a fantastic adventure, i think i'll have to get on my bike and do the route during the summer. may i ask what bike computer you have? or can you recommend one for someone who doesn't know anything? many thanks. :)
The route is amazing. One of the best bikepacking trips I have done.. You will have an amazing time.. Regarding the computer, I have a Garmin 1030 which has a really long battery life.. All the Garmin computers work similar regarding the interface and how you navigate so should be straight forward to use...
The outer loop flows better as you can pretty much rude it all but there is a bit of hike-a-bike on the inner loop. Well for me there was 😊 Enjoy your trip! 👍
So sad that there is no snow or ice at the top anymore. I was there on Uhuru Peak 15th of February 1989. The whole top was covered of snow and ice. We had to walk along a path never to set foot aside because of deep snow. On this climb I could take some grate photos of the glasiers. Nowadays they are melting ...melting... But :Great journey for your company! And: Did I hear a mountain called Aconcaqua?
Hi, thanks for commenting on my video. The bars that came with my 3T bike were aero and flat on the top and it was difficult to add things like lights, my drone controller mount etc. so I swapped them out for the "Zipp Service Course SL 70 XPLR" bar which have been great!
Superb video. Great camera and drone footage. Excellent production. Amazing scenery and route. Really enjoyable. Thanks 👍. Just wondered which Garmin you use for bikepacking navigation and how is it in terms of battery life?
Thanks so much for the super feedback 😊 the bike computer is a Garmin 1030 plus. Battery lasts close to 20 hours but I always recharge with a power bank when on an overnighter 👍
Thank you.. Glad you enjoyed the video. Great question about the direction. If you go South to North the tougher sections come early (eg. Corrieyarack Pass) so I was glad to get that out of the way early when I was fresh.. However it would be epic North to South but I think the intended direction from South to North would be best. Of course, if you great weather like I did then whatever way it's done, it'll be amazing 😊
Great trip!! - I fancy that on the bike one day... think you could get up that path on a bike? it looked do-able on the bits you filmed (I suspect the Sneck would be a fair old shove though! - good luck on your ultra!
Hi and thanks for watching my video on the Badger Divide. Nowadays I use Adobe After Effects and Geolayers 3 but for this video I used a free Android App called Stuneo. When I looked on the play store it was no longer there and a quick Google confirmed it had been removed due to lack of support and investment. Other free options are Google Earth Studio and Relieve.. Cheers :)
Thanks for commenting on my video. Regarding the weight there are two types of load limits: static (when the vehicle is parked) and dynamic (when the vehicle is moving). The static limit is often much higher than the dynamic one, allowing for the added weight of the roof tent occupants when the car is parked. I checked with Tentbox and they checked for me. Hope that helps
Thanks for commenting on my Badger video. Glad you enjoyed. My shoes on this ride were just standard mountain bike shoes. In the early part of the video I wearing some Gore shoes covers.. 👍
the answer to your question - is there an official 5 ferries rout then the answer is yes just look at strava , arriving in brodick and turning left is more the tour of argyle than the 5 ferries
Hey. Great video. And it's a good reccy for my challenge to do it in 24hrs. I will be using a mountain bike, and was wondering if you had any advice on tyre choice?
Hey... Thanks for watching my video. The route is not technical with decent surface all the way. Gravel tyres worked well. Doing the entire route in 24 hours will be an amazing adventure. Enjoy 😊
It really is a great place to cycle.Amazing climbs although I wish i could have also had time to do Pico de Veleta..Good for running too. I did a super trail run whilst over there :)
EXCELLENT Video, what month did you do the hike? I'm doing the hike in June, I hope it won't be as cold as when you did the hike, Thank you for posting the video.
Hi Iain, the tyres are Schwalbe G-One AllRound Performance DD RaceGuard 2.25 inch (I am running 650b wheels). I have them set up as tubeless and they have been flawless. I appreciated the bigger tyres for comfort on my 3T bike...
Hi Luke.. Glad you enjoyed the video and it gave you a good view of what it is like. The route is epic and if you are going to do it then I'm sure you will really enjoy!
Great video mate, coming to Scotland in June from Australia in June and plan to do this ride, so great to see this video. On a good day Scotland is unbeatable
Hi Stefan.. Glad you enjoyed the video. This is definitely the kind route for a day with great weather. Its such a good route and chasing the ferries (not difficult) is great fun.. Hope you enjoy! 😊
