Welcome to Tyrannosaurus Riffs. My name is Brandon and I will be your host. Here you will find me on a journey to learn about all things gear related. I've always had a love for guitars but never bothered to learn much more of the other aspects. Join me as we check out different guitars, pickups, amps, pedals and speakers! For video requests or demo inquiries please email me at tyrannosaurusriffs@gmail.com
I had a JVM210H for about a decade before finally upgrading to the JVM410H. If I would have done it sooner, there might be fewer amplifiers downstairs.
Agreed! Even though it looks like it has as many controls as an airplane, it's so easy to use. Actually one of the easiest I think. Cover and do anything you want.
It's a great amp for early 2000s metal, but it sounds downright awful for everything else. I wish I would've spent my money on something else, but I bought off on the hype. Either way I'm not selling it. This thing is like owning gold. It only goes up in value
It definitely does the 2000’s thing well. I do agree, it doesn’t do a lot of other things well. I do enjoy this amp but it’s not one of my first picks anymore.
I have an Marshall JVM410h ( Plexi & negative feedback mods) Engl Savage 120 MKII, Revv 120 generator MKII & both EVH Stealth s (EL34 & 6l6) 50 watts, Love them !!
@@tyrannosaurusriffs make sure to wear a back brace when you lift it. Weighs around 65-75lbs in the stock headshell. In Peavey's infinite wisdom they used 1.5inch thick ply for the shell instead of 3/4 and the shell alone weighs about 30lbs. I had to build a new shell just to shave some pounds.
How do you like the Nolly? The X version is probably the most updated one they have put out. The new IRs and presets kick it up a notch for me, might even be an S tier amp now!
@@BaritoneGoatStudio I love it so far! It’s right up there with Gojira for me! Out of the 4 I have from Neural it’s top 2! The Savage Rhythm preset is downright nasty!
I bought this amp as a new demo model around 1997. By then it wasn't desirable in our local scene and had sat on a shelf until i bought it. Used it for a few years live but sold it on a whim around 2001. Been kicking myself since...
Awesome video.I'm still thinking about getting a quad cortex been considering it for a while now.. Would you say that you can replace your tube amps with it ?
I hate to admit it, but yes. Especially if I get all the tones profiled off the amps before selling them I have no real reason to keep my amps other than I still love them. They're not as necessary as I thought they were. BUT! Tube amps need to keep coming out or we have nothing to profile!
Great choices for sure, the guitar that I’m reaching for most often right now is my EVH Stealth. It’s a freaking hot rod of a guitar and a blast to play \m/
Dude........I don't know. I love Channel B on this one. But I'm wondering how close a Dark Terror sounds to that Channel B. I also am tempted to buy a Jim Root Terror because it's supposed to be the gain channel of the MKII. Which I love the Rockerverb. I feel like I need 3 Orange's now to compare them all. I think I can borrow a Rockerverb to compare soon though. Maybe. Anyways, long story short......I love Orange.
@@SearchingForTone I traded mine 2 months ago to keep new things coming to the channel. Only did it since they’re still in production and I can get another. But I have really missed that amp. The Rockerverb was my first orange and it absolutely crushes!
This just made me even more impatient for mine to arrive 🤤 It sounds monstrously thick, huge amounts of low end there. But tightens up pretty well too.
It’s so damn fun! B is the spot for me. I’ve hit it with 6 different drives/boosts and it’s just a blast. Even without them though I enjoy it! Hopefully sooner than September for you!
Hey! Found your channel 2 weeks ago with the Orange Dual Dark White unboxing! Loved the demo video btw! Anyways, my favorite guitar, and the best guitar I've ever played, is my Schecter Hellraiser C-7 FR in the classic Black Cherry color. I've heavily modded it to have their Apocalypse pickups, 1 volume knob only, locking tuners (forgot which brand, but they're great), a new and better FR bridge with a 42mm fat brass L tone block, and noiseless, heavy duty springs. For strings I use Ernie Ball Cobalts 10-68 for Drop A. It's about as close to a custom guitar as I could get, and I couldn't be happier with it! All in all I think I paid roughly $1800 dollars in total. Honorable Mention: I remember playing a $3000 Ernie Ball JP15 7 string at GC one day, and wow was it amazing! No wonder people get those guitars. But you know what? As amazing as that guitar was, I preferred my modded Hellraiser, but only slightly. Unmodded, that JP15 was the best guitar I've ever played, but modded it's my Hellraiser. Of the two titans, I'd choose my Hellraiser over the JP15. Godly guitars. Playing the JP15 made me realize that I made the right choice in deciding to mod a Hellraiser instead of buying a JP guitar. They sure are sweet guitars though. Would be happy either way in all honesty, I just choose the cheaper option.
That was a fun demo to make! I look forward to using it in a bunch of videos! That Schecter sounds awesome! I fully intend to do the brass block and brass claw on my Avenger. Sounds like we have similar taste minus the 7 string for me. I can barely play 6 🤣 and I agree on the Ernie Ball. After getting mine I understand it. It’s still a lot of money to fork over though. Especially when the Hellraiser is 1/3 the cost and rules!!!
I really need to get the Governor. I wonder that myself and I've had a few people mention that! Hell, I just need all the Eminence speakers to try out!
I have 2 of the OG dual darks. It hurt SO much to have been sitting in front of my computer that day this amp was released with a maxed out credit card, knowing I couldn’t get it. I would have SO bought it. One of my dual darks flew out of a car window. Broke the window and landed 100 feet away from the car. The shell was crushed. The face plate warped. The transformer mounts bent. BUT it still fucking works!!!
Well I'm glad you and the Dual Dark are ok from that car accident! Orange does build them like tanks. That's pretty incredible it still works! I would really like to try an OG one day! I'd be a liar if I didn't admit I'm jealous you have 2 of the OGs!
@@tyrannosaurusriffsone thing I like to do is blast the master volume, bring in an bit of attenuation (just a hair) and use the gain as a volume knob if that makes sense. These amps also benefit from a pedal to make them a bit less flubby. On channel A I have the bass rolled off quite a bit. But maybe the white version fixed that issue! I do know that the transformers on the Dual Dark 50 the amp sound tighter.
@@eltipo6651 that's a lot of good info! I actually filmed the video last night, I wish I would have tried that attenuation trick now! I'll try it tonight anyway. These amps take pedals extremely well. I really love the Grim Overdrive from This Heavy Earth with it on Channel B! It's so rad!
@@tyrannosaurusriffsyou got it, man! Here’s what I do live. I have the attenuation on but just a hair, maybe at 7 o’clock. However, I only engage the attenuation with a footswitch when I switch to channel B. I turn the orange 2 button switch vertically so I hit both buttons (channel and attenuation at the same time, so on channel A there is no attenuation, but when I switch to channel B the slight attenuation is there just to smooth it out. I really wanna try a GCI evil need into it. It’s an HM2 clone that fucking rips. I use a full tone OCD to smooth out the amp.
@@eltipo6651 I'll look into the GCI and OCD! I don't have the most experience with pedals but have been finding them just as fun to try as amps lately. Just a bunch of different flavors our there!
i love my peavey 6505,but im confused how to bias, generally i bias my asmps around 56 mv,but the bias of this amp is in mili ampers, and i dont know what is the ma bias, can somebody help me
Hey there! I take my amps in whenever I need that kind of work done, but if you reach out to Brian with @BaritoneGoatStudio he might know the answers you're looking for!
In a practice setting, put the straight cab on a stand so it's not pointed at everyone's legs. Sounds amazing. The slant sounds thinner no matter what.
My PRS SE Custom 24 in turquoise is my current favorite guitar I own. A close second is my Samick DV60 from 1992. I threw a set of SA/SA/81’s in it and put graph tech ratioed locking tuners on it and it’s a workhorse.
Currently switching between my Ibanez K-7 and a Ibanez RGD61ALA Axion. Only 1.5 year in to learning how to play so mostly for standard tuning I have a Epiphone Les Paul Studio Smokehouse Burst which great for the money. Just need to learn how to play the bloody things now :)
@@tyrannosaurusriffs Joking aren't you, I have way more ha ha. Turns out I'm better at buying guitars than playing them. Will keep at it though, I have to or my Wife will kill me :)
@@SteO23 haha hell yeah that’s awesome! I keep telling myself I’ll get better the more I have 🤣 I’m actually downsizing. I had 45 at one point. Even 32 is a bit much lol
I had one of those limited avengers. Bought it new from DrumCityGuitarLand when they released, and unfortunately sold it about 8 years ago. Awesome guitar, and regret selling it.
@@tyrannosaurusriffs When I bought it I lived in Phoenix, AZ and sold it when I lived in Nashville, Tn. I know the guy I sold it to was a touring musician. I told him I was selling it and just struggled with the Floyd, and he responded with "I don't need to eat anyways."
@@theblockyrocker9060 ah I see. I got this from a guy that lived right by Drum City. I remember the early struggles with Floyd’s. They’re definitely annoying at first! That’s a funny response from him! 🤣
I knew what #1 was before I even clicked the video 😂 Great idea for a video! The most played guitars for me personally of the last 2 yrs have been a Schecter Syn Gates Custom HT, and a white Charvel Pro Mod So Cal Style 2, (HH Tele Basically, with Fishman Pickups)
Ah you like the Synyster HT that much?! You’re the reason I found out about those! I really need to get a Charvel on the channel. Bad. I love Fishman so much. I’ve been trying to find you a white Avenger since our conversation!
@@tyrannosaurusriffs love the Syn HT, so versatile and pretty much like your ec 1000, it's just grab and go. The charvel is the same way. And thanks man! Would love to add one to the collection someday
@@tyrannosaurusriffs appreciate that dude! Highly recommend the charvel so cal style 2. The speed necks on the charvels are so nice. They've got the best rolled fretboard I've ever seen
@@BaritoneGoatStudioI’ve sold a couple on reverb this year but I always feel like a jerk on there cause I do mark up 9% to get what I want. Which with that and taxes makes my prices look insane 😅 I may have to move some of these there though if they don’t start moving.
That cat with the interracial couple at Grand Cayman still makes me wonder what went wrong with the GT3. But I wouldn't bet a million on Lars being the secure port. I don't know. Namastè.
