No idea if you would like it but if you haven't read it and want to feel physically ill and rage against the machine, I am absolutely obsessed with Tender is the Flesh. Dystopian horror meets industrialized cannibalism. I CANNOT stop thinking about it
I’m so surprised Heir of Fire is where you bailed on the series because that’s the one that convinced me to keep going! Yes, it’s completely different from the first two but I think that’s ultimately for the better. It really needed more POVs to tell the story and they’re super interesting. On the 5th book now and loving it!
Went for a Kobo Libra Colour to have colored book covers and graphic novels; no ads; and wide support for a variety of file formats when transferring PDFs, EPUBs, CBZs, etc. over USB or through Calibre's web interface.
You need to watch The 100 shows its SO GOOD (I also might just be biased because of one of the characters that's in the show but not the books) ALSO the Giver is a literary masterpiece Also also..I would read the Hunger Games fanfiction..and the last story-
I'll read on anything! As long as I can read the great stories I like, I don't care how I consume it. I do however like to buy special editions on hardcover to keep for show :)
Not a series that I actually loved, but a very good example of a YA book with a love triangle that has all of the corners touching, and (spoilers) does resolve in a polyamory situation, is The gilded wolves… The only example I ever saw though in a YA
I’ve tried to get through “A dowry of blood”, but it’s clearly not for me. I finally finished Bookshops & Bonedust, the prequel to Lattes&Legends, and I loved it, actually shed a tear for saying goodbye to the characters (while travelling home from a work trip)
My view is that the problem with ebooks is not the ebooks themselves but the small size of most ebook readers' screen and the type of display technology used. Try reading on an A4 sized e-ink reader. Anything smaller than the A4 size screen is a pain, and the iPad type LCD screens are not meant for long-term reading. E-ink is the only way to go.
So the Fae Books romance is basically season one Jmart in a Feary package? Cool cool. Love dark fantasy and the academia style! Thanks for the recommendation! I think i will get the book for myself! ^^
As a college student, I live in the dorms during the school year, and stay at home with my parents during the summer. I just recently finished creating a digital library of my physical books, and it has done WONDERS for me. While I do enjoy reading physical books more as an experience, being able to take ALL of my books with me in less than the amount of space one book would take up is invaluable.
Hi Leonie! I would like to recommend you a book, or rather a book series, from my country - The Witcher. It's my favourite fantasy and I think you might recognise it. I'm really curious about your opinion 😊!
I read a smutty romance called Tennessee Moon. MC gives consent to one of two brothers. Blond haired guy. The Brown haired guy was angry and jealous, waits until night and pretends to be his brother. Sleeps with her for months until she’s pregnant. Says he’ll marry her since it’s a historical fantasy. Honeymoon comes and she panics, saying he’s doing everything that the other brother supposedly did. He comes clean. Can’t remember after that, it pissed me off to bad and it ended happily ever after. Fucking garbage
I am so glad i watched this because it finally gave me the definitive answer for why i never saw Jacob as a serious option for Bella. Its 100% because he represented her staying human and it was made clear in every book that Bella wasn't meant to stay human. Conflict after conflict, the 3 hunters, Victoria's army, the f'ing Volturri, and her own thoughts on fitting in with others. Eveything pointed to her turning into a vampire, so everything pointed to Jacob not being a real contender. I always focused on how Jacob just got worse as a character after turning into a warewolf, but even ignoring that, i dont think I'd ever see her pick him when Edward&vampirism is an option.
i'm surprised you liked bride, i did too for the first, like, 30 pages but then as soon as we got to know the characters more it was a total miss for me. the FMC is the most useless vampire ever and the MMC is just so bland and boring and i didn't feel any chemistry between them :/
In Germany there's something called "Hörspiel" which is like a play that's only audio? So it's scripted and there's more than one voice for all the characters but you only listen to it without video. Don't know if there's something similar in the Netherlands haha but it sounds like that's what you were describing kinda
I adore Perfume too! I read it more than a decade ago, and it still stays with me. My best 5-star recent reads lately have been All Systems Red by Martha Wells and The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou, both of which I think you would like.
It makes me so mad but you're right about Matched. It's a compelling idea and could be done very well. But the protagonist is awful and she spends 3 whole books annoying the reader. To me, she is the villain. I spent the whole series wishing she would die and we would get a new protagonist (aka Tris)
In all seriousness, as a person with a background in analytical mathematics, chaos theory can be incredibly difficult to understand. Especially when the colloquial definition is so far removed from the scientific definition.
I’m rewatching the walking dead to finally finish it and the “love triangle” between rick, lori and shane is soo wrenching but interesting! I feel simultaneously bad for the friendship between rick and shane and the marriage between rick and lori. And you also question whether their choices are understandable or justified and what would you do in that situation (would you forgive??) aaah also can the friendship be strong enough? I constantly wondered whether rick wasn’t more important to shane as they had been absolute best friends for so long, instead of lori who he had just had a few sexual encounters with?? and had never even liked in that way??
"even if you have damaged genes you can still be a good person" sounds like something a white Christian missionary would say to poc and communities in the global south
Other than The Infernal Devices love triangle, Cassandra Clare also explores the wonderful world of trouples, or real love triangle that ends up in a polyamorous relationship, in The Dark Artifices with Kieran, Mark and Cristina. It was my first real trouple and the fact that it all starts from a queer couple was something I never saw before. I really liked their dynamics and the aspect of not choosing when you can have both!! They were also the only thing that made me go through the whole series (sorry not sorry Emma and Julian)
the solution for con #5 is to just sail to the seas and whenever you find a gem from your reads then whatever that book is worth to you or the actual price, then you gave it to your desired shop you want to support to? that is if the gem of a book you found thru sailing is not available in your bookstore area.
