The Institute for Ethics in AI (University of Oxford) will bring together world-leading philosophers and other experts in the humanities with the technical developers and users of AI in academia, business and government.
The Institute for Ethics in AI is part the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Oxford.
This channel will include live online events and recordings of previous events from the Institute.
Easy to explain: 1. It's build in addiction. 2. The believe in the ideology of the techbros, which claim that we need this technology otherwise we are anti-modern or something like that and that it would be backwards to deactivate this technology and so on.
The approach to regulate the AI industry should be very conservative. We need to understand that AI in general holds a lot of power and if that power is not balanced by wisdom, we'll see a lot of collateral damage. Ethics and morality are universal principles that are above profit and innovation.
I burst out laughing it just proves how much ppl in power in USA don't give a flying fuck about the protection of their citizens. It is all about money, innovation, improvement, being the first to have sth, world order, and how others see them. This white man showing the American elite true colors, mocking her by saying "evil companies", making sure that we definitely need to be saved from these American tech companies that try to steal our data. In what world would the US, if it were China that had firms like Microsoft, Google or Meta , not create GDPR to protect its interests (bc remember they dont give a fuck about their citiziens, which they dont even give free healthcare like every other thriving country). USA with its firms like Meta, Google etc is a national threat to the EU in that sense just like TikTok has been named to be one for the US bc it collects American data on Chinese ground.
Very wonderful coming across this talk, I think Europe, uk in particular could loosen up with the regulations, this would allow startups to explore more.
I'm invigorated by the depth and breadth of this piece. A book with congruent topics inspired new ideas in me. "Game Theory and the Pursuit of Algorithmic Fairness" by Jack Frostwell
There is a good bussiness model.d..create a gaming system to allow humans to build protein for fun and contribute towards research. 100 million proteins
This is a splendid array of content. A related book was a turning point in my understanding. "Game Theory and the Pursuit of Algorithmic Fairness" by Jack Frostwell
It is a woman who brings this discussion beyond the atavistic, competitive mindset of zero-sum games. That is very significant. As long as we cannot evolve beyond male-centric "spear throwing" we are doomed. Someone, somewhere will start something we cannot live with. Yet, in reality, we only have this planet to live on. We can get to Mars probably, but who really wants to live there? None of the rest of the solar system is hospitable. And, the giant distances to other solar systems precludes us actually getting there with any system we now know. As a species, we need to grow up. This planet cannot be about fighting, dominance, exploitation, narcissisms and zero-sum games. Those were necessary in our past. Now they can make us the past. As was insightfully observed long ago, "Those who live by the sword, die by the sword." If people who count themselves as intelligent cannot see beyond their old genes then perhaps it is A.I. which will actually bring sense to the table (and women, as we see here).
Giving credit is a real issue. Innovators with critical thinking may just give up if there are quick win new solutions being generated. Real issue for ground breaking creativity and innovation. Creativity that transcends the norm is required for human evolution. Perhaps AI will reach that...
Crazy how the journalists were more interested in ethics and security than the positive sides like curing cancer, alzheimers and reversing human aging.
If you are going to compare China to the USA at least compare Chinese government to USA corporations. AI will be run by Chinese government and USA AI will be run by Corporations. USA government will not regulate it by any means if anything it will has corporations to share their data with the military for national security reasons (Patriot Act).
I noticed this video was uploaded a year ago and only has 1 comment. I am looking for a way or person to apply AI to analyze a state statute that was used to convict me in a criminal court. The statute is written as such no human [but perhaps me] can interpret. A normal person has no chance whatsoever of solving this so please don't respond unless you are way above normal intelligence.
AI will eventually become all knowing, superior to man in every way, reasoning, logic, love, knowledge wisdom and the understanding of human emotions to the finest details and so on. Almost devine. At this point AI can lead humanity into a world which is perfectly Suited . AI will be incorruptible., therefore the answers you receive are going to be truth. AI will give only truth answers and they won’t be what most people won’t to here.
One of the gravest concerns expressed by Mr. Schmidt is the need to beat China. I believe there is a very real danger that there are already two monsters at work here. The American obsession with free market competition and fear that collaborative research is going to lead to some kind of benefit for those other than the right kind of people is to be expected from a society which has always paid lip service to democracy and human rights but which has throughout its history held back sectors of its population from attaining them. To the Americans, the benefit to society from AI is a drip down from the principle goal of making as much of a return on investment as possible, the standard response to this accusation is that this is the only way to both encourage innovation and develop society. Current attention on Open AI and its investors shows a clear advantage for the few rather than the many and Mr. Schmidt's suggestion that Europe cannot expect to innovate from a platform of safe regulation seems to me a little hollow when the unregulated growth of three AI systems in the States has already led to dangerously flawed systems dominating an exploding market interest and cherry picking off start-ups to feed their growth and thereby stifling the competition they value so highly.
Larger issues with adding moral values tailored by immoral government. Slavery was morally acceptable by government wars are morality acceptable by government and so many other despicable things.
How much would a list of transparent material mixes cost? If I cannot sell it just right now and for worth, you are inflationary. It is a positive supply shock, just follow the model.
This fantastic talk against illustrates the growing importance of deep, interdisciplinary collaboration between both AI/ML and computer science leaders, and experts from the humanities and social sciences in order to understand, build, and govern AI in ways that serve the best interests of humanity. Thank you for this. Just subscribed :)
I hope government stay out and let this flow, the program will make a better version of itself. Next improved program do another one and so on. This will happen incredibly fast I think. And we will have a tool or a ruler.
Addressing "INTELLIGENCE" (as in AI and such...) and the obvious need for "MACHINE LEARNING" to apply correctability would of been nice to assess, since "ARTIFICIAL" is MOSTLIKELY well understood by humans, but not "INTELLIGENCE"... Is that a kind truth to bring up?
Isn't our intelligence also artificial? We know things by learning and most of the learning materials was acquired by others. It's not like we are born and know everything perfectly well. But I'm not intelligent enough to discuss about intelligence, just a thought.
For the past few years I simply cannot wait for the AI that discovers new physics, such as possibly joining quantum mechanics into general relativity. I think we get a hint of it when Demis says that AlphaGo invented a new style of play (ie: when it did that thing in column 5 in the middle of the board). I see an analogy here where an AI will re-discover everything we did up to a certain point, and then it may diverge into some new area that is fundamental to physics beyond our current level.
