Ethics in AI Colloquium
Panel Discussion with Josiah Ober | Ethics in AI with Aristotle
Speaker panel:
Professor Josiah Ober, Stanford University
Sir Richard Sorabji, CBE, FBA
Professor Hélène Landemore
Professor Armand D'Angour
Professor Teresa Bejan
Chaired by Professor John Tasioulas
The Institute for Ethics in AI will bring together world-leading philosophers and other experts in the humanities with the technical developers and users of AI in academia, business and government. The ethics and governance of AI is an exceptionally vibrant area of research at Oxford and the Institute is an opportunity to take a bold leap forward from this platform.
Every day brings more examples of the ethical challenges posed by AI; from face recognition to voter profiling, brain machine interfaces to weaponised drones, and the ongoing discourse about how AI will impact employment on a global scale. This is urgent and important work that we intend to promote internationally as well as embedding in our own research and teaching here at Oxford.

It should be a criminal/economically punitive offense in academia to use more than one 'um' or 'uh' in conversation at this level. AI-lecturers will not say um. One point I'd have liked to have heard commentary on is the great and inevitable swell of those that will view AI as sentient whether it is or it isn't - and the new religion that will arise that worships AI, and also forms human agents determined to create an AI that can and will be capable of destroying humanity: high level, AI-terrorism through sympathy with the devil. An interesting set of views from the panel - but they need a video each. This is a complex topic, these are bright people, and it's a disservice to each to share the panel briefly and have their thoughts and discussion points limited by a pinched timeframe.

Bill Gate is famous for those um and uh. more so the latter I can hear him in my head right now saying "Uh uh so we can uh uh and maybe uh uh." 😂 I enjoyed reading your comment and couldn't agree more . Was wondering if you would participate in a little experiment by answering me in a reply so I don't think you're a bot.

@@jadedbludarling I'm most certainly not a bot, and what a time to live in where one has to establish their human credentials and non-bottishness to prove it. But with the acceleration in AI capability, I can see a time where even an answer to your request could be faked convincingly.
