I can remember when my mom took a part time job at JCPenny during the Christmas season in 1979-80. The JCPenny catalog was filled with the Star Wars characters and vehicles from Empire. I remember asking my mom if Santa would bring me an AT-AT. I never got it and years later I asked my mom why she couldn’t get it? She told me with her discount she wasn’t paying $50 for a toy. It was just a different world back then. Fifty dollars was a lot of money. I’ve been collecting all of my old vintage Star Wars vehicles since ‘04. I’ve got my AT-AT, not Empire but Jedi, Empire Millennium Falcon, and Empire Slave I. Looking back at the catalogs from the ‘70’s-‘80’s is so nostalgic. Great episode. Keep up the great work.
I got a gijoe in 1996 I think and it was all chrome he was a cobra and he had a lazor gun with a back pack and at the tip of the gun it had a red light and it was battery operated the back pack would hold the little batteries I can’t ever find the name of that figure or have seen anybody with one
In the late 70’s and early 80’s a place like Zayre had a lot of toys. KBToys was my main location. I loved walking in there not knowing what overstocked and non-selling toys they would have at a steep discount. Stuff from the original Battlestar Galactica and Black Hole I got from there. I still have a few unopened pieces from there. I don’t remember Service Merchandise having a large selection of toys, electronics yes..
My friend and I also wrote a letter to Hasbro as kids and asked them to reissue a list of figures we never got. We eventually got a letter back stating that the molds had been destroyed. Then years later they reissued everyone on our list and more. I believe his Night Force story.
why stop at Bossk Hogg? Make a whole Dukes of Star Worlds line of figures. Here's some suggestions: Luke Duke (didn't have to change his name), Princess Daisy, Bo Solo, Cooterbacca, Sheriff Darth V. Coltraine, Enos the Hutt, Old Ben Jesse. have fun.
Sneak peek real name was named after Stephen King‘s son. Because Stephen King wrote the file card on Crystal ball and they wanted to show their appreciation
Oh, dear God...WHY did they have to mention the first Daryl figure!?!? Bad flashbacks incoming. I was in college. There was a girl that was also into Walking Dead. We talked about the new episodes every Monday before class. I wanted to impress her so bad, and her birthday was coming up. I went to Walmart, I saw the entire Series 1 Walking Dead figures, but I didn't have the money to buy all of them. So I bought the Daryl figure as her birthday present, and I tell myself, "I'll just pick up the entire wave next time." Well, next time I went to Walmart, there were no more Walking Dead figures. And the girl ended up turning me down. 😭😭🤡🤡🤡
I worked at Hasbro for years, I promise you, just like all the other letters, nobody read yours - sorry :( Soon as a letter says "I have an idea..." it's getting tossed, it's like this almost everywhere. They now have a portal called SPARK where they can make you click a bunch of legal waivers before submitting an idea - but unsolicited ideas is a no go
Absolutely, please keep the podcast going if you can! I don’t even collect toys but I find the inside information about your business strategies and market genre supremely interesting. Thank you for your unique efforts.
