No way. Always assumed they had a false value same as beanie babies. Which apparently is shown now by the crash. If they have any rarity it is contrived. Plus they can just make reproductions all they want.
Nope. They are a very affordable price point but not my cup of tea. The crazy thing is, I see people at toy shows with tables full of these things and I always wonder if they actually sell enough to pay for the table? So many funkos at toy shows…
I got a round about mention on this video! I was the guy who bought the storm shadow with the sticker. He told me about the sticker right away but the figure was so pristine that it didn't matter. I am from Mississippi and was traveling back from North Carolina during March Madness and I had to stop in and check out the store. Amazing selection and super knowledgeable and friendly staff.
I used to collect Pops, but then they started doing so much. Sold most of mine during Covid. Some sold for $1500+ a piece (I had early exclusives). Been buying retro games, Lego, and vintage toys with the money since then. I have kept a few Pops for characters I really like that don't have lines elsewhere.
Yup..I'm 54 and sit on the floor in my basement all the time to organize all of the various lines I collect. Told my buddy that it makes me feel like a kid playing with my toys. 100%.
Appreciate you guys. I’m sitting on a vacation listening while driving smiling knowing that my brother and I have Optimus’ hoses, swoop with attached mouth, sound wave, and a solid Mirage. Makes me smile.
I have an entire wall of Funko Pops. I get why Ryan "doesn't get it." They don't have personality and uniqueness. But not all I.P.'s have a toy/figure line, so Funko Pops kinda fill that void. It brings that stuff to life. That's why I collect them. I always look at Ryan's collection when I'm in the store. Never know what he has.
The guys had a great point on Funkos. If the line had very limited merch then Funko makes sense. I’ll give you an example. My wife is a huge fan of Jim Henson’s Labryinth. There is very limited merch so she has been trying to complete the funko line (doesn’t buy online, only at toy shows).
Anything that is specifically made to be a collectible usually doesn’t retain its value over the long term. Nobody is going to be nostalgic for Funko Pops they bought and left in the box. It’s the toys that people played with (and wore out) that have long term collectibility… especially when few of those toys survive in mint condition. I think the only reason the Pops fad survived longer than Beanie Babies is because they had so many different franchises they could exploit. But eventually market saturation took over and a lot of people realized they were being milked by too many limited edition releases. A lot of mint condition Pops will end up in the landfill… not counting the ones that Funko themselves already sent there.
I think it's real cool when you ask the person what they thought the value of there trade is besides just abruptly saying what you think it is I think that draws more people to your store
Love that ya’ll do trades on the floor. That’s a huge part of our childhoods, playing with toys on the floor. No other way to do it. Don’t ever change what you are doing.
some toy lines have a "my pet rock" vibe. not for me, i like well designed articulation and original character design. some of the best action figures, in my mind , available today are coming from smaller studios like four horse men. those guys are amazing!
I dont agree with people saying funko pops are the new beanie babies, i think they're more of a modern day pez despenser, there a nice piece for your shelf if you want to represent a certain Fandom
For me, I enjoyed collecting Funko Pops for what they were. Fun little $10-15 figures that represented some of my favorite licenses, which often take themselves a little too seriously, in a not so serious format. I also enjoyed that there were interesting variants that could be found and exclusives and what not. One day I realized I had maybe 90-100 of them that I had kept sealed and I was curious if any of them had any value, so I started looking into it and was absolutely floored with what I saw. TL:DR I ended up selling the entire collection piece-by-piece for about ~$12k in total off of what I would estimate to be an initial $1k outlay. I enjoyed them at the $10 price point, but what they were being valued at was so absurd I decided it was time to get out while the getting was good.
Pops are great for properties that don’t have much representation in toy form. I used to despise them, but I came to see their appeal. They are WAY too common at shows, though. I do hate seeing the wall of Pops at every vendor at a toy show.
I collect POPs but not like i used to due to the company over producing them. I just go for rare/autograph ones now. I just like the simplicity of them and they display easy.
Crazy! Lol I used to go through my storage tubs and arrange my toy room by putting everything on my bed, I now do it on my toy room floor….it works! 😂👍
I’ve definitely flipped some but they’re fun little decorative toys, kids like them too so not the craziest purchase just stop expecting everything to keep appreciating
You might open the regular YT show with a title screen saying "Today's show was filmed on... Items may have sold since this episode was filmed. Call for inventory information."
When I subscribed to loot crate. I started getting a lot of funkos. I noticed how stupid they looked and taking up a lot of space on my shelves. So I sold my whole collection.
Funky lost its popularity because, like beanie babies, people are buying to flip vs collect. The same thing happened to comics, cards etc in the 90s. All speculators and not collectors
I never got Pops, but if you think about it, Pops are just the new beanie babies without the idea of them being an investment. People love to collect and Pops probably appeal to the old school plush buyers.
Thank you! I appreciate the sentiment regarding Funko Pops. I have very few, but they are all tied into something I have interest in well beyond just having one for the sake of having one. I never understood the rabid ferociously that some people collect them. For me personally they are the modern Beanie Babies and someday I feel they will be everywhere and 99.9% will be worthless.
I dont hate funko. I see their appeal. Whay i dont like is what u guys are describing. Ppl collecting for the mere purpose of collecting for future sales. The fact that they are all over like u guys say, is what is good. Ppl can get them. I dont like when ppl make things so only a few can have them.
Its funny that most of these comments are parroting the same opinions ive been hearing for years. yet funkos for me have never stopped selling and have only gone up. Sure they have their common stuff thats overmade and make its way to the clearance racks, but so does almost every toy, whether it be gi joe, star wars black series, power rangers, etc. Hell i remember seeing OG pokemon packs on clearance racks when i was young and look at them now. At the end of the day people like what they like!
We never thought people would assume that these are going up on the same day we film. Also, they live on youtube forever so they’ll always be out of date
Pokemon is the best selling franchise of all time bar none. I don't buy or collect it but its certainly not in the same category as pops. Pokemon is coming up on its 30 year anniversary still selling strong and you actually think its a fad like pogs? Really? If pokemon is a fad its the best damn fad of all time and nothing even comes remotely close to its popularity and selling potential. Not joes, transformers, he man or anything else. Pokemon eclipsed them all and never missed a beat in terms of sales. And what really sets pokemon apart from all the nostalgia based franchises is, they actually know how to get kids interested. All your favorite franchises only cater to adult collectors now because kids think those are lame
@@antr7493no I collect transformers and dbz. Not pokemon. What I wrote makes sense. You lumped pokemon into the same category as funkos and pogs (lol) which is just a massive brain fart. Why don't you go look into pokemon sales and get back to me. Gamefreak gets it. Nintendo gets it. You do not
@@scourgemeltface Again when did i say fad? if you didn't understand my OP that is on your brain farting. It's about obsession not money. Funko. baseball cards, beanie babies, pokemon, collector plates, cars, coins with little R2D2s on them etc etc. It's all the same
@@antr7493no each of those things you listed is different. You insinuated it was a fad. Its not. "ITs aBoUT oBsESSion NoT MoNeY" cries the old man at a 30 year old franchise. You long missed the boat for telling people pokemon is like beanie babies and won't last or hold value
Just a thought, in fairness to the people who are unable to sit on the floor or even stand for long periods while you sort their trades, maybe you could provide (or offer) a folding chair for them to sit on while they wait. Love the channel(s) and great content!! Keep it up!!
HT will re-release or 2.0 some of these popular current low production figures if/when the market gets better bank on it. The only question really is how long are you willing to wait and (sorry to go dark) - will the world even be here when that happens. On the flipside some of these current peg warmers are probably going to be worth a lot in the future should they not get a re-release or 2.0.
i collect "Invincible" and they have very few things to collect. there really isnt a large amount of figures and they are expensive. i do have every single invincible universe action figure so i decided to buy the funko pops as well. theyre the only ones i own...
I'm glad people enjoy collecting them but absolutely hate pops. I think the bottom will drop out of them eventually. I have no interest in collecting bobbleheads. There's zero nostalgia there. Just don't get it
I enjoy all these videos but I'm noticed something. Ryan talks to people not with them. Sometimes he cuts off customers just to talk to them and hear himself speak about his view on toys. Everyone just agrees with him while he blabs away - its the George Lucas effect. Hey Ryan - develop communication and listening skills...not all about your view dude and speak up everyone else your opinion on things matter.
I love Funko Pops! Been collecting figures since the 80s and the Pops fit right in with a lot of my collection. The best part of liking Pops is not one of you would trash them to my face 😂
Pops seemed like bottom of the barrel level low effort, which is one reason why I never liked them. They are all stupid looking to me, because they look so alike. I don't like super-deformed type looking characters, though.
