I just revisited this video and, although I liked the first guitar most the last time I watched this, today I'm picking up a ringing noise from one of the treble strings. I have a hunch a quarter turn of the truss would fix that. Also, every time you lifted your arm off a guitar, I would hear the tone noticeably open up. And that right there is why I have installed an armrest on every one of my acoustic guitars, four of which are Eastman.
Vintage Guitars are very good guitars and the Revo series are amazing! 👍 As for Gibson they are like Fender...over priced and trade on thier name. Yes the Gibson in this video sounds a little better but not by much but Im sorry, an extra £2600 in the price isn't justified. 🙄
The Spruce is a bit more airy, also a wee boost of the High Treble, almost Chimey and Ringing, very Nice though; Not Harsh. The Cedar is kind of boosted in the low Mid and Higher Mid, with very Wee Roll off in the Highs; which overall is a Sweet and Warmer Sound than the Spruce. BOTH have Full across Even Tones both Strumming and Picking: a Testament to Quality Woods I would Say!! In Final: Both are Excellent Guitars, so in Choosing which One: it Depends what You'll Be Using it for; RE: IN a Group or on Stage, the Spruce will Cut Better in the Mix with the Other Instruments!! Whereas the Cedar would more likely Warm up the Overall Sound and Tones with a Solo Singer Songwriter, with a Warm, Mellow, Wide Brush of Tones to Compliment and Surround the Singer's Voice without Overpowering it!! Of Course, Both 'could be' made to Sound 'almost' Identical if Put through a Good on Stage Mixer, then EQd slightly different from each other and with some slight added Compression on the Mixer Channels, and some very slight barely there added Reverb on each Guitar; to Warm and Fill the Tone and Sustain of each Guitar. 👍👍🎵🎶🍀
What a lovely video. Just proves that a happy, valued and inspired workforce will absolutely produce wonderful results time and time again. If only we could all be employed in such a place to experience even a fraction of this. Thank you. This was such a treat. X
The Vintage’s ceramic magnet pickups stick out, like a sore thumb. Gibson uses the calibrated T-type pickups with Alnico 2 magnets. It’s a world of difference.
Hey Richard, I watched these videos during the Covid dark days and am again going over them. I was in a Zoom class with some fellow blues players and a fellow named Chris, who had a Britt accent, and he was masterfully explaining how blues basics could take you a long way, he makes his living playing with a band. So today 6/29/2024, I spotted your videos and remembered how you were presenting the same concepts and now going back through your videos. Thanks for your clear instructions.
Thank you SO much for passing these observations and feelings on to me - because it really means so much to know it’s helped. There’s quite a back story to why I did the videos and I won’t bore you with it - but I always say everything is connected and this period in my life really reinforced that point - but not only that but your comments to me continue to show how when you drop the pebble the ripples really do flow out and continue to have an impact long after the event - my actions helped you and your action in expressing your appreciation has really helped me today - so….. that’s a very adhd way of saying - thank you :) . If you’re ever interested in the guitars I specialise in do pop by and pay us a visit :).
What a beautiful and inspiring video! ❤ I am a huge fan of Dowina and all thanks to Richards guitar for introducing them to me 😊 I have the Dowina OMG Rosewood and the OMG says it all! It is my absolute pride and joy! There is some magic going on with Dowina 😊 my guitar has transformed me as a musician. It’s the most beautiful sounding acoustic guitar and I’m spreading the word! If you are here and wondering if you should get one, then yes! do it! You won’t regret it! ❤😊 And, check out Richards Guitar shop. You will have a personalised buying experience that will leave you with a nice warm feeling, no box-pushers here! Authentic and passionate people who genuinely care ❤
Ohhh thank you so much. Your blog was a total inspiration in its own right - I cant thank you enough for the energy you put into it. You know whats so sad? When I met Peter (the chap in the video) he greeted me like I was his long lost brother. He was literally emotional. I steadily got to realise that he had been watching all my videos - and grateful for someone actually caring about the heart of what they are - He felt like someone in the industry was finally actually interested - or cared. What does that tell you about retail? Anyway - Erika constantly reminds me never to be upset about it - and to focus on the many positives that happen when people share common values - as you do - and everyone who loves the guitars. Anyway I am rambling..... THANK YOU!
@@RichardsGuitarshop I can understand that as I feel that I know you too Richard, having binged watched a lot of your videos! 😆 I really believe you are an extraordinary person! The proof is in the pudding 😊 it’s fantastic that you care and that you share that with the world 🌎 keep on shining that light! 😊
Dowina guitars are beautiful. It was nice to see Richard going to the workshop. I know he loves and appreciates the quality of them from his videos. I found Richard's website and his enthusiasm was evident so I had to get a Dowina. I now have 3 and they are stunning. I hope they make a 12 string at some point in the future.
Amazing company, and for their instruments to be so beautiful at the prices that they ask, conveys a level of humility and unpretentious goodwill to musicians that you're never going to encounter with more celebrated boutique builders.
World class hand made acoustics by people who love their work - and the people around them - Eutopia! More details on the actual guitars are here rguitars.co.uk/pages/dowinaguitars - I appreciate you watching.
I asked Dowina to make me a custom made guitar via Richards Guitars. They produced a beautiful guitar within my budget that I will never sell. It was a work of art.
Thanks for this great emotional video from your visit at Dowina! 😊 I got so deeply touched from it. It shows their soulful craftmanship of guitar making and what makes Dowina's guitars so special! Really a sucessful video with very nice background music. 😊
What a genuinely lovely man. The family atmosphere that is clearly evident makes a huge difference to the people who produce the end product, and, naturally, to the end product itself. I bought a Torrefied Swiss Moon Spruce and Padauk GAC a few months ago, and the tone is breathtaking. I've played it at a few concerts with other artists and the comments I've received regarding the tone and clarity of this beautiful guitar evidence that it's not just my bias as an owner. When respected musicians are asking to try out your guitar because they love its tone, you know you've got a keeper.
Lovely video. I was lucky enough to find a Dowina in Australia, thinking that I wouldn't be able to source any locally. What amazes me about it the most is just how resonant and alive it is. Play it whisper-quiet and it still sings! I own 2 Furches and this Dowina, and they are all wonderful instruments, but I think the Dowina has just that little bit extra that probably comes from being hand-constructed in such a loving environment as you've depicted in this video.
I didn't look thru all the comments so someone may have suggested this but turn the auto focus off on your camera and simply manually focus where you will be sitting. It won't need to do any other focusing because you are in one place. Other than that, good video!
Hi, great video! Thank you so much. Im wondering, why isnt the third included in the fourth chord? Isnt in normal to target the third for all the chords in a blues progression? Or is it only in the one chord it sounds good? Cheers from Norway
There are FREE tuner apps for your phone Richard. Come on. I know that OM is killer because I've watched so many other videos and that is what brought me here. I'm going to go and try one in person hopefully tomorrow.
Not sure if you’re being fun or poking the stick as I did this video many years ago but I do hope my videos are helpful - fingers crossed 🤞;). We are here to help should you need us as every guitar is setup to perfection - we provide 6 and 12 month check and reset in the price and I’m the uks largest Eastman dealer - longest serving too! I’d like to believe you couldn’t be in safer hands and I’m sorry if the guitar was out of tune - it’s been a long time since watching this video but apologies if it was annoying - I mean well!
Richard, glad to see you have some current videos on Dowina. I became aquainted with Erica at Dowina 4 years ago. I currently have 2 of their guitars, a walnut/cedar and a Master built made of Guatemalan Rosewood/Bear Claw Spruce. There are no other Acoustic makers here in the U.S. that compare in quality for the price. The Custom Master I have was designed by myself and Erica. From the selection of the woods to the Flamed Maple binding and beautiful abolone around the rosette and binding. Truly a special instrument, hand voiced by Stan and built by the team with great care and detail. This is the rare time I have ever purchased a guitar without seeing and playing it first. In both instances I was not disappointed and any expectations I had were fullfilled beyond what I hope for. Not only is the guitar a one of a kind, it came in a special Italian case that fits like a glove. I am in process of facilitating the addition of Dowina Guitars to a very special shop in Saint Louis Mo so that others here in the U.S. can experience what I have. I enjoy your passion for these and other luthiers.
Enjoyable and enthusiastic video but...the only problem I see is that any company which becomes more popular and has to produce more of its product to meet a higher demand, then often, the essence of the company that fueled its rise is lost in the growth and it just becomes another brand name in the marketplace. Look forward to the video of your visit there and maybe hear their views on the way the company go in the future. Just discovered your channel/shop and enjoy your honesty in what you are trying to achieve, take care and good luck.
Hand on heart that’s exactly why they won’t be doing it. I’ve been in the industry 29 years and seen it happen to so many - even my own business that I closed down 18 years ago or so - for the same reason. I was deeply depressed as providing the service that I was once so proud of simply was not possible on the scale we were growing to. So - that’s how Richard guitars began - only selling what I love and nothing else! Even doing that pushes you toward certain limitations!!! Life is always a balance !!! Thanks for your input and interest!
I have a beautiful Dowina Master Built Hybrid Nylon which I bought from you guys. I love this guitar (see the Dowina headstock in my avatar!). I record demos of guitars including my Dowina so in my own way I'm helping to popularise the brand. They're excellent sounding and beautifully crafted guitars.
Another fab video Richard, glad they and you are back. I love dreads personally but its all subjective. Richards is the best guitar shop in the UK if you want great customer service and a well set up guitar. Alwsys my first port of call.
