Supeerrr. Thank you. On my 2002e46 318i was a grey wire broken in the same bunch of wires. That was the reason I had boot lid open light on the dashboard. Now it is fixed thanks to you. THANK YOU.
Great video there mate... Just wonder on how did you manage to open up the boot lid when it got stuck close? Cuz my E90 (UK version 2011) got stuck and won't open up at all... No key holes and no wire latch or valet switch or whatsoever to open up the boot... Thanks for ur help
I literally had the exact same problem today and by watching your video, I managed to fix it all! Thank you soo much! I also had the same exact wires chopped in half.
Hey how's it going I have the same issue . Just wondering how long you had the error message before you fixed it ? Aproximate amount of ignition cycles ?? Thank you
Excellent video, I now know the fix, but I cant access the boot. Key remote not working, no boot switch in glove and no manual lock to open with key. My boot is completely inaccessible E90 2011 318d
Dude.... I had those exact 2 wires broken. Just like you I just pulled 2 thick broken brown wires out. And looking at all the comments, this is a very common issue that BMW should issue a recall for
Hello, my bundle has a single wire cut on my BMW E90 and the trunk no longer opens. The problem is, I can't see how to open the safe from inside the safe. I do not see a manual control? Someone could help me, because without opening the safe I cannot fix my harness ... Thank you all for your help
Part #2320055 is a kit to replace the entire trunk wiring section with the rubber boot. I opted for this because I didn't want to have to potentially fix it "again" if other wires started having issues. The wires are pre-crimped and have heatshrink connectors ready to go.
My problem is just with the left license plate light and I’ve switched out the hosing with a new one, looked inside the cover for frayed wires and looked under the rubber connection for split wires like yours and can’t find the problem, I’m getting 0volts, any ideas?
Great guide! If it didn't happen to me I'd think it was highly unlikely that just opening and closing the trunk would break a wire but sure enough, this was it. I was freaking out thinking it was something major. I actually just finished the repair, also by fishing a small gauge wire then pulling the new section back through. Some people are lazy and cut the sleeve but this isn't very hard at all and keeps everything looking original, not to mention perfectly waterproof. Again, great video.
Electric tape properly wound will also keep this waterproof from a slight slice in the rubber to complete the job, I respect your completist attitude but as someone who came into this harness which had already been partially done, it would have been impossible to fish the three broken wires which I found, and it may prove too problematic to beginners to do, so I urge beginner mechanics to simply slice this down and wrap it up when you are finished with your work.
Hey thanks for the tip. I did find this same issue on my E91 (wagon). Two wires had completely split, about 4 others were ready to go. Once I patched the broken wires all the issues I was having went away.
Thanks Mundip - I had exactly the same problem, and had no idea where to start looking for the fault, but came across your video and problem now resolved !
I have a 2008 bmw e90 saloon and my boot has just stopped opening, and the number plate lights along with rear lhs fog, reverse and lights have stopped working, I assume this may be the reason?
Great video, found I had five broken wires! Boot lock, fog lamp, number plate light, rear light one side, plus not sure what the other one did? Only thing though after about an hour trying to get a wire through I cut the cover and then finished taped it with insulation tape, looks ok plus the car is 12 years old so not too worried, but your video was a great help, thank you very much, probably saved me £150 plus.
I racked my brains thinking about how I could fix two wires without ruining or being able to replace the rubber boot... and this was the perfect solution. Thanks so much for posting! Thanks for a concise, informative video too.
My bmw opens the trunk when i switch on the headlights and also when i press the brake pedal with lights on it triggers the trunk switch on and off, can the problem be those wires.thank you
Brilliant! Great stuff man, thanks :D I started getting warning lights for bulbs and fog lights, then the trunk mechanism wouldn't open, this resolved it!
Thank you! I had checked this harness but NOT thoroughly enough UNTIL watching YOUR video; upon which I discovered the very same two brown wires severed! They pulled up very easily.
I used the following 12v 17amp maximum load 28 copper strands, each strand 0.29mm or you can also use 12v 5amp cable Always use cable heavier than the maximum loading
2:45 When I took the rubber connector off the car, there is another rubber cover that keeps going inside my car... so I cannot see the wires on the car body side... how do I remove this?
I had light problem and when wiggled wires they worked and I thought would be expensive after watching your video I went out and fixed it cost me £9 thank you for showing me how easy it was
Hay I had number plate lights out plus no auto boot or left hand reverse light + light on boot lid + light in boot out ,and guess what ! It was that bloody brown wire, much thanks
I have this exact issue, I have a fault for bothering right tail light and reverse light.. both are located in the trunk lid. I wiggled the rubber covered joining harness and saw the lights flicker. Funny thing before this happened, for the longest time I had a fault code for both tail lights out and they weren’t out.
Many thanks Mundip, saved me long trips to service centre, not to mention the costs. I had done this repair myself on my previous e36, but I am 12 years older now. Fixed in 30 mins at zero cost, using only soldered joints. Without your video I would have cut the gaiter. I used a coat hanger to thread the replacement cable, soldering to the end and pulling it back through.
Thank you very much for taking the time to post this video as i had the same issue on my 325i E90.It took me around an hour to fix and i used a 13amp flex, connecters and electrical tape...cost me about £5,significantly less than going to an auto electrician. 😁👌👍
