Many thanks Mundip, saved me long trips to service centre, not to mention the costs. I had done this repair myself on my previous e36, but I am 12 years older now. Fixed in 30 mins at zero cost, using only soldered joints. Without your video I would have cut the gaiter. I used a coat hanger to thread the replacement cable, soldering to the end and pulling it back through.

I literally had the exact same problem today and by watching your video, I managed to fix it all! Thank you soo much! I also had the same exact wires chopped in half.

Supeerrr. Thank you. On my 2002e46 318i was a grey wire broken in the same bunch of wires. That was the reason I had boot lid open light on the dashboard. Now it is fixed thanks to you. THANK YOU.

glad to see u didnt slice the weather strip out entirely like most people have done, my approach is honestly disconnecting all the wires from the components in the trunk lid (which are all just plug and play connections) and feeding them out entirely through the hole where the rubber boot is, a little more work but nothing is being compromised of its natural integrity.

Marco Badalamenti how can I find where the wires can be disconnected ? I'm replacing my whole trunk. thx

Thank you very much for taking the time to post this video as i had the same issue on my 325i E90.It took me around an hour to fix and i used a 13amp flex,connecters and electrical tape...cost me about £5,significantly less than going to an auto electrician. 😁👌👍

Thank you! I had checked this harness but NOT thoroughly enough UNTIL watching YOUR video; upon which I discovered the very same two brown wires severed! They pulled up very easily.

Great guide! If it didn't happen to me I'd think it was highly unlikely that just opening and closing the trunk would break a wire but sure enough, this was it. I was freaking out thinking it was something major. I actually just finished the repair, also by fishing a small gauge wire then pulling the new section back through. Some people are lazy and cut the sleeve but this isn't very hard at all and keeps everything looking original, not to mention perfectly waterproof. Again, great video.
@coupelikeacaravan
@coupelikeacaravan 2 года назад
Electric tape properly wound will also keep this waterproof from a slight slice in the rubber to complete the job, I respect your completist attitude but as someone who came into this harness which had already been partially done, it would have been impossible to fish the three broken wires which I found, and it may prove too problematic to beginners to do, so I urge beginner mechanics to simply slice this down and wrap it up when you are finished with your work.

Great video, found I had five broken wires! Boot lock, fog lamp, number plate light, rear light one side, plus not sure what the other one did? Only thing though after about an hour trying to get a wire through I cut the cover and then finished taped it with insulation tape, looks ok plus the car is 12 years old so not too worried, but your video was a great help, thank you very much, probably saved me £150 plus.

Part #2320055 is a kit to replace the entire trunk wiring section with the rubber boot. I opted for this because I didn't want to have to potentially fix it "again" if other wires started having issues. The wires are pre-crimped and have heatshrink connectors ready to go.

I have this exact issue, I have a fault for bothering right tail light and reverse light.. both are located in the trunk lid. I wiggled the rubber covered joining harness and saw the lights flicker. Funny thing before this happened, for the longest time I had a fault code for both tail lights out and they weren’t out.

This seems like a very common fault in e90/91. Fuse 77 keeps blowing too. The boot light stays on (even though boot is shut) - then fuse blows - car steams up!

Yes! I was struggling with how best to do this on my 97 528. My connectors are somewhat bigger but I think they'll still work. My trunk lid open light is always on and needs a key to open and my alarm periodically just goes off for no reason. I probably have more than a couple wires broken. Anyway, brilliant! Thanks.
