My name is Rory and welcome to Firebeard Outdoors. I have a passion for the outdoors and have created this channel to share my experiences. The content will be quite varied, including camping trips, outdoor cooking, wild foraging, home brewing and who knows what else. RU-vid is saturated with guides and tutorials, so I don't intend to re-teach something less well than somone else already has. I am just sharing my experience and if you do learn something, then that's a bonus. I hope you enjoy.
Unfortunately, that is something I don't know the answer to. I'm a butcher and this flat cap was provided as part of my old uniform and there is no brand label.
Great video m8, I'm glad you caught yourself a pollock. Good food, though I must admit I prefer mackerel. Hoping to go Sea Kayak wild camping down Devon Spring next year and a spot of fishing. Liked and Subscribed.

Thank you for this video. Windy day! At about 4:00, it becomes obvious that a folding saw would be a great labor-saver; still, it is equally obvious that the axe is a key tool. Subscribed!
Not afraid at all. Wary and cautious as well as well researched and knowledged up. I knew there were bears, but know mainly they steer clear if you make enough noise. So I was talking and singing to myself as well as chooping wood. Also I was high up in the mountains, I believe the bears prefer the lower land areas.
Great vid. Midges can drive a man mad! I remember going out to a moor on the Isle of Lewis with family to collect peat that had been cut and left to dry by the side of the peat bank. Midges nest in the drying peat and when you pick them up it is almost impossible to describe! We filled a tractor trailer and left building a stack for another day! I'm itching again as I type!
I was itching while watching this, think i must have trauma from living on skye many years ago, feels like theyre crawling on me, christ mate when you filmed your cooking set up on the tree stump it brought it all back, the noise of them in your ears that manic way they just buzz around in your face...thousands? no gazillions of them everywhere, could drive alladin sane, good luck on your adventures
Where is the wild game ? What can you hunt ? A boar would go really well right there . Even a bird. I'm not saying drop a buck and dress it so we can all see , but I'd like to see some game taken . I'd love to do that . I know the UK is touchy about guns but a nice compound bow would work on just about anything.
I have no legal right to hunt anything in the wild. Bow hunting is completely illegal in UK. If you want that kind of content, there are plenty of other people doing that on RU-vid. Not me.
I do this occasionally. Our conditions here in the PNW/USA are similar: wet, with mostly fir, spruce, cedar, etc. Lots of fir where I am, spruce mostly out on the pacific Coast. Both species can brew up a good cup. I let mine steep a good 5-7 minutes for more flavor. Otherwise, it's a rather weak cup. Also, I break up the needles to smaller bits so they release more essence. Pour the tea thru a patch of cheese cloth. Not bad at all. Lots of people say it clears up the sinus, which is a common thing here in these climes. Well done.
They would have a smoky fire as much as possible and tobacco smoke is good at keeping them away. They would also avoid waterside locations where the midge is most prevalent.
Water is bad for the dreaded Midge - there is a theory though that as well as protection Crannogs were built out on the water where there was more wind to keep the midges at bay..
I truly wish you all the best for your journey in the Highlands PS i am actually watching this on Jan 26 2022 which is Australia day . love this video PS i am a Scot who loves videos filmed in Scotland .So all the best mate from a Scot in Queensland 82 years old now .
Welcome to Bonnie Scotland 🏴 Hopefully on you’re next adventure here you will not get eaten alive by the midge! Enjoyable vlogs, great adventure. Take care 🙂
Hi Linda. Bonnie is definitely the right word. It was a really enjoyable adventure. The midges certainly added something to the experience, even if it wasn't that pleasant at the time. Thank you very much and thanks for taking the time to watch my videos.
@@FirebeardOutdoors Hi Rory, you were brave in the tarp! Best bring a tent next adventure where you can escape. We went to the Hebrides last year for an adventure and the midge sounded like rain on the tent it was so bad 😂. Really enjoyed your vlogs so thanks for sharing!
