Enjoyed this commentary/review. Brought back some repressed memories about this. I remember being hyped for this only to find it lacking & got burnt out quickly. Most likely from everything you mentioned. Looking forward to your next review.
Thank you! Yeah Shadow the Hedgehog is a game thar will burn you out. It can be fun, but ho boy is it a slight. Hopefully you like what my next review is.
Apoclymon: Why do people get the pizza and I get the crust? Me: So no one in the writing team looked at this and were like: Something's not right with the dialouge? Yeah, I think I did myself a faviour by re-watching the original Digimon series in Japanese, back when anime pirating sites weren't sadly shut down. It's honestly frustrating how hard it is to find legit ways to watch Digimon in Japanese with English subs. While yeah, there are those who do make Blu-Ray's for the original Digimon series, even working on the Digimon movie that is coming out in December, but they are quite expensive and might not work if you don't have multi-regional Blu-Ray players, if you live outside of US. Really wished Japan released Japanese versions of the original Digimon series, intead of just releasing the English versions.
This might not mean anything, but in my country Latvia I grew up watching Digimon Adventure 01 & 02 with the English Dub. But as for Tamers and Frontier, I watched the original Japanese versions. Why my country showed Tamers & Frontier in Japanese instead of English you may ask? My guess is how much of a backlash Digimon Adventure 02 English Dub was getting. It got so bad, that people who were airing Digimon shows on TV at the time decided to show Tamers & Frontier in Japanese, so that people can still have some interest in Digimon, without the audiance hating the series. My biggest problem with 02 is how the show was handhled, especially in it's writing department. It's not like I hate 02, but at the same time I wished it was handled better. It didn't help either how annoying Davis as the main characer was.
@Asaylum117 go Baltics! My family is from Lithuania and saw one or two episodes in Lithuania. As for why the switch, my guess is what was happening with Fox Kids in the States. At the time, Fox was going thru some financial troubles, and Disney was willing to buy out some parts of Fox. Disney was mainly looking to buy UPN, but in the buy-out, also gained Saban and their animation library and contracts. What I suspect happened was during negotiations between Fox and Disney, Fox wasn't allowed to make broadcast deals. Givin Digimon was popular, the station couldn't wait for the deal, and instead went directly to Japan. As for writing, my understanding is the Japanese dub is better. That being said, its still the same show.
I honestyl enjoyed the storytelling when I first watched, ad I thought the Spirit Evolution animation was one of the coolest things. Character designs were pretty neat too, especially for the digimon
@azureblue99 as much as I want to say now, it's something I want to reveal when I do a commentary stream on this episode. Probably at 1000 subscribers.
I like the theory that the other four kids were to be the digidestined of the other four legendary spirits Cherubimon had once purified. It would've been interesting that each of the legendary spirits had their own digidestined child so in the final fight, you could've had all 10 fight together before becoming Susanoomon.
Given this season was supposed to be a fighting tournament, I wonder if the 4 other kids were originally the other legendary warriors but then got retooled once the show changed direction. It's interesting to look at those characters and see how their clothes match the other legendary warriors.
@randomedgygamer2191 it was a lot of things. Between monster anime going out of fashion and Konaka being a more niche creator, Tamers was in a weird place. One of the things I don't like with Digimon is if it doesn't hit in Japan, it's considered a failure. Like I understand wanting a good domestic presence. But sometimes that can blind you to your global presence.
Well, the problem with Frontier is that it does not build characters, and we take Takuya. Well, he is not special. In contrast to Kouji, he was the most important character in the show, and Koichi was great. These guys are the mainstay of the show in its entirety, while the rest of the characters were kind of reserve players... Let's talk about the power levels. It was very terrible, for example, a Mega-level Digimon is killed by a Champion-level Digimon, and we are talking about the development of a Digimon divided into a human sprite, and the best problem is that they are at the same level, which is supposed to be a higher development. Well, the creators of the work did not care about it, but the essential point in the work is the Digimon in In all Digimon shows, there is a relationship between human facilities and Digimon and how they become stronger, but on the other hand, in Frontier, the essence has disappeared, so this is the worst. I remember when I was young, when I watched Frontier, the Arabic version, I did not remember anything from it. I hated the show. Well, it is better than my imagination, but it is not the show that I want to watch it again
