Yellow gold is my favorite metal. I wear yellow gold jewelry. However, I can’t foresee myself ever wearing a full solid gold watch in public. Two-tone has the metal I love in small enough amounts to please my eyes while not being over the top. ‘Bimetal’ or twotone watches may be so 90s and prior, yet for me, it never went out of style.

It seems to me that the prices that Rolex sets, no matter how much the watches are certified, are exaggerated. I remember when you released the video of the Tudor BB GMT, which I had bought on my ID a month before and three and a half years later, I like it as much as the day I went to pick it up. I have seen that video more than 20 times, I love it. Many thanks and already waiting for the next one.

Absolutely right with regards to credit cards. Unless you pay off the entire balance each month (and live within your means), you should not be using a credit card. I have seen so many people spiral into uncontrollable debt because of this. I myself use credit cards exclusively to make purchases and I pay off the entire balance each month without exception. I do so to get some of the benefits, but more importantly to protect myself against fraud. It is a lot harder to recover losses due to fraud if it is your money rather than the credit card company's money. With watch purchases, I also agree with you. Unless you can buy the watch there and then in cash, you shouldn't buy it. The only time I will look to finance a watch is if they offer 0%, in which case I may set aside the cash if I may benefit from the affects of inflation. But I will always have the cash to hand.

Buying watches is only a symptom of a much larger social issue. It may have started as a lack of financial education but now it’s just values that are out of whack. What happens when this generation reaches retirement and can no longer work? Another bailout?

I have several luxury watches from brands like Breitling, Omega, Glashütte Original, and Blancpain. And I didn’t lose any money buying or owning them. The key to not making the watch hobby expensive is to buy watches on the grey market or used. For those who are new to this, be sure to use places like Chrono24 and only choose watches that are guaranteed authentic (watchmakers go through the watch before you receive it, and you get papers to document the authenticity). A lot of brands can be bought for 50-60% of the official price at an authorized dealer. And if you want to sell the watch in the future, you will have minimal loss, or even a slight gain financially.
@9er..
@9er.. 3 дня назад
We just paid off both CC’s and both cars a few weeks ago! First thought….dump a monthly payment into the watch fund!!!!!….Second thought was don’t be an idiot…Call the financial advisor, tell him what we did and ask him now what. It felt better to make that decision versus to start saving for another watch on top of the one I’m currently waiting for the call on ( got the cash for that one thank goodness). The watches are investment’s argument has kind of separated RU-vid into separate camps and created Soooooo much drama as I’m sure you’ve seen. Once that money is spent…it’s gone in my opinion.
@JANTHONYCHANNEL

I would take the "pay cash" thing one step further (with the exception of cars): You can only afford to buy something if you can also afford to replace it if you had to the very next day. May be a bit extreme, but you'll never struggle to pay for something you need because of something you wanted.

Really sensible advice. The lack of financial education in our society is really sad. When you consider our banking system is setup to take wealth from the poor and distribute it to the rich it makes sense that this information is intentionally suppressed and drowned out by "hypebeast" style social media and other marketing. I also see people on Reddit asking if they should spend the majority of their salary on a new car high interest loan. It's insane. If there's a silver lining, perhaps it's that your horology journey doesn't need to start at Rolex. You can gain an appreciation for precision watchmaking starting out with something like Seiko at very reasonable prices.

Glad you are back, because of videos like this. No nonsense and helpful advice. One thing I'd warn young people about is credit card debt. Credit cards are fantastic if you know how to use them. You can get points back for purchases, and that to me is the main benefit. I've never paid a dollar to credit card interest, but have gained thousands in cash back points. You just have to know how to use them. It's not an account to use as a loan, because the interest rates are INSANE! Never ever carry a balance on a credit card if you can help it.
@JANTHONYCHANNEL
@JANTHONYCHANNEL 3 дня назад

Your experience mirrors my own. I helped my Dad in his HVAC business since I was a literal child, and then started work washing dishes at like 16 or 17. Never stopped working. I'm 36 and finally feeling financially stable and comfortable with some expendable income. I also met a couple of millionaires in my life and like you said, they all looked like just normal people without any flashy stuff. The people who flash all of these luxury goods are either broke or are worth multi millions. Spending money on luxury goods is the worst financial decision you could make. The only time you buy them is if you can feel zero pain if it got stolen or lost tomorrow. If you can't go out and buy it again tomorrow, don't buy it, because you don't NEED it.

It's all about balance. Don't be the cheap guy who takes millions of unspent money to the grave, unless you truly get 0 enjoyment out of experiences/material goods, and also don't be the guy who needs to constantly spend, especially beyond their means. I'm more of the mentality of don't be an idiot with your money. Go on vacations but there is no need to spend 1000s of dollars a night on a hotel or constantly buy material goods... My watches aren't investments but I do see them as stores of cash. Personally, I think the dumbest way to burn money is first class flights and unnecessarily expensive hotels. Even a dumb purse has some sort of value but these "experiences" are literally lighting money on fire. I like a nice hotel but I don't need a $2,000 a night villa and my butt can be a bit sore roundtrip, instead of spending a Rolex on a bit of comfort.

Many things are not taught in schools anymore, contrary to what I remember from the 1960s. Now, they are probably teaching that everything is equal, unique, and relative simultaneously. That all choices are a matter of taste and opinion. There is no such thing as "good" or "bad." There is no such thing as "facts." Only the authorities and the police have the right and relevance to define and decide things.
@JANTHONYCHANNEL
@JANTHONYCHANNEL 3 дня назад
Yeah, I think that's exactly why people talk about a lack of "common sense" so frequently. We take for granted that some things are just plainly obviously bad, dangerous etc. Then again, hopefully as we get older, we get more open minded and better at seeing a broader perspective... who knows.

All I cared about was status symbols as well. Totally out of insecurity and vanity. Then I crashed in life.
