For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23) Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. (James 4:4) And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: (Acts 17:30)
Great video but made me wonder about the press's gap width at the hinges in relationship to the foam thickness. For example, with two 1" pieces of foam or four 1/2" thick pieces, is there a rule of thumb for gap at the hinges? i.e. 2-inches to match the foam with no compression when closed on nothing, less like 1-3/4 inches or 1-1/2 inches, how much of a difference does the density of the foam make, if any?
Just got into kydex 2 month ago, just finished my 2nd press. Now vertically, built in a foot press, so I can clamp it while I have 2 hands left. It gives me a good pre press of like 50%. Rest with the same type clamp you use. Good job on the press there minigating the humps in the spine. I have a different approach. I use a strech fabric hanging above to catch the blade and I can press in before the foam even touches. On very hard parts I first fold them, put in stable needles to create a seem. Then back in oven and with a clap attached where I need to pull against the hump. Like this you can manage pretty demanding shapes.
That is a really attractive two-layer sheath you made. I don't think I've seen that style before. Inspires me to incorporate that into some ideas of my own. Thanks!
well done sir!! Tree sap is something i learned about going hunting as a kid 1st season i went we didn't get lost we just hiked so far we couldn't get back to the truck before it was so dark couldn't see your hand in front of your face, we always have backpack with poncho, MRE's ect.. my uncle collected some gobs of tree resin & old mans beard. has a couple very good uses
That's nice fire starters but I will stick with my fire starters cotton arounds with wax and crayons it's water proof and wind proof it will burn 8 minutes
Very impressive ! Compared to other fire starters I've seen sold, used, or pre made, this bad boy actually gives you an instant sustainable fire immediately. I've not seen one anywhere that throws out such a huge and obviously hot flame instantaneously. Think I'll make up several of these for myself. Great vid, friend ! Many thanks for this tip !
Interesting. It seems like a combination fire-starter/tinder/kindling rolled into one. However, it looks like quite a lot of work getting it together. One way to make life a lot simpler is to have some cotton make-up remover pads (come in packs of 100), a small bottle of ordinary hand sanitizer GEL (or even Vaseline petroleum jelly), and a candle. These pads have a small amount of gel rubbed into them for ignition with a spark source (flint/steel, ferro-rod, empty Bic, Fire Ant, etc). Once ignited, start the candle, which gives plenty of time and heat to get kindling going. Sorted. It has the advantage of simplicity and very easy to source. [BTW, Felix Immler has PROVED that the humble little Fire Ant WILL start over 100 fires before wearing out!]
Fire ant? I will have to look this up. Your opinion on what you prefer for a firestarter is just that. I live in the land of ice and snow. So when I think about a Firestarter, I form categories. The video demonstrates what I would consider an EMERGENCY Firestarter. Im on my trapline and I have fallen through the ice. My shit is soaked, and I need fire right now, or I'm going to die. He even said, "In a hypothermic situation," mental capacity is diminished along with fine motor skills. So larger makes it easier to manipulate when your fingers are no longer working. Same with cutting the opposite corners. The never dull is absolutely genius. It is natural cotton saturated with a highly flammable aromatic liquid. This means that if all you have is an empty lighter with a piezo igniter, which is the weakest spark I can think of. The Firestarter you describe are great for starting fires with the cubscouts. But I won't be betting my life on them.
I made one with my Glock, I was so worried about the heat and pressure that the definition wasn't that good, and I was so nervous I ended up buying a molding prop. I'm sure vacuum forming is much better for polymer frames
The only area that is subject to damage in the press is the grip and only if it’s covered by hot Kydex. I’ve done a couple hundred holsters, or more, without any issues. Don’t shy away from the press, I heat 080 for a taco at 325 degrees for 4-4.5 minutes then leave it in the press for 10-15 minutes cooling while I’m doing other things. I tried the molds, never found one that was good enough. I don’t form on anything except the real deal. Enjoy your holster making, best wishes.

I have 4 of his holsters and several knife sheaths, a mag holder. All of it fits perfect and has a perfect finish, smooth, contoured and no pressure points on the body. This guy knows his stuff ! Thank you for laying out such a professional course Dennis.
