Very impressive ! Compared to other fire starters I've seen sold, used, or pre made, this bad boy actually gives you an instant sustainable fire immediately. I've not seen one anywhere that throws out such a huge and obviously hot flame instantaneously. Think I'll make up several of these for myself. Great vid, friend ! Many thanks for this tip !
well done sir!! Tree sap is something i learned about going hunting as a kid 1st season i went we didn't get lost we just hiked so far we couldn't get back to the truck before it was so dark couldn't see your hand in front of your face, we always have backpack with poncho, MRE's ect.. my uncle collected some gobs of tree resin & old mans beard. has a couple very good uses
That's nice fire starters but I will stick with my fire starters cotton arounds with wax and crayons it's water proof and wind proof it will burn 8 minutes
Interesting. It seems like a combination fire-starter/tinder/kindling rolled into one. However, it looks like quite a lot of work getting it together. One way to make life a lot simpler is to have some cotton make-up remover pads (come in packs of 100), a small bottle of ordinary hand sanitizer GEL (or even Vaseline petroleum jelly), and a candle. These pads have a small amount of gel rubbed into them for ignition with a spark source (flint/steel, ferro-rod, empty Bic, Fire Ant, etc). Once ignited, start the candle, which gives plenty of time and heat to get kindling going. Sorted. It has the advantage of simplicity and very easy to source. [BTW, Felix Immler has PROVED that the humble little Fire Ant WILL start over 100 fires before wearing out!]
Fire ant? I will have to look this up. Your opinion on what you prefer for a firestarter is just that. I live in the land of ice and snow. So when I think about a Firestarter, I form categories. The video demonstrates what I would consider an EMERGENCY Firestarter. Im on my trapline and I have fallen through the ice. My shit is soaked, and I need fire right now, or I'm going to die. He even said, "In a hypothermic situation," mental capacity is diminished along with fine motor skills. So larger makes it easier to manipulate when your fingers are no longer working. Same with cutting the opposite corners. The never dull is absolutely genius. It is natural cotton saturated with a highly flammable aromatic liquid. This means that if all you have is an empty lighter with a piezo igniter, which is the weakest spark I can think of. The Firestarter you describe are great for starting fires with the cubscouts. But I won't be betting my life on them.
