Hello. I wanted to ask because I would like to give myself a gift and buy Ewi solo. I just don't know, because there is also an ewi 5000 version and I'm wondering which one to choose. Is the solo better, has more functions and fingerings than the ewi 5000. What is the difference between both models? Regards.
EWISOLO is best choice and my favorite. Double the presets (200) than EWI5000 (100). Easier to setup and use. Plays good right out of the box. Built in speaker is good for practicing and can even be used to play on a microphone. EWISOLO is my main EWI. Cheaper too!
@@BernieKenerson OK thanks. When it comes to fingering. I would like to because this ewi solo has 5 fingering modes and for me as a beginner what is the easiest mode to play, for example el condor passa. You know, I saw these buttons. There are 6 buttons and we don't know which sound is c or d, etc. This is some difficult or easy device. Could I handle it?
Well I’m late to the party but I gotta say, this livestream allowed me to learn enough about the Solo to be able to jump in and just start playing it when it arrived. I figured I’d need a week to learn it but nope, one day in and comfortably producing studio quality music with it.
I was using an internal preset. My EWI4000s is loaded with custom presets. It’s been so long ago I forget which number I used. Thanks for listening and commenting.
Can the Solo be connected to an iPad via the Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter to run SWAM audio modeling apps and the like? Really nice demo - and food for thought.
Ciao Bernie, volevo chiederti se per l'EWI, esistono libri per apprendere le diteggiature alternative (note di ripiego per facilitare la tecnica digitale) Grazie!
I'm looking at a ewi right now so been looking at roland, yamaha and akai videos all week! Akai EWI Solo seems to hit a good bang for buck, priced well, lot's good features and sounds okay too. Roland only really seems to offer something useful (AE-20) at double the price of the Akai solo. (AE-Go - only having 11 sounds is waay too stingy in my opinion) Yamaha does a pretty good job with the YDS 120 but it's really only for sax sounds by the looks of it. Thanks for making such detailed video - really helps.
Very nice! Thank you for all the work you do and passion in EWIs! I am new here and purchased EWI 4000s a week ago. It should arrive in a week. I am very excited and have a lot of questions of cause. I guess my main concern is breathing/blowing. I read some forums where Newbees like Myself complained they would turn blue while blowing. I see the breathing is very different from, say, playing saxophone. Also I watched a video where someone demonstrates his mouthpiece modification. He uses mouthpiece similar to the saxophone MP and turns it into valve regulated. That way, by turning ligature knob he regulates the amount of air pressure. Anyway,. Just wandering where to start from in this respect. Thank you!)
There's quite a few janky sounds on the solo, but it still impresses the everyman consistently... and that's even with the janky sounds. It's a very joyful instrument. Not perfect, but wayyyy more fun than some people want to paint it. Perhaps they all have NuRads and thus have to blast everything else. (Not saying the nurad is bad, I'd enjoy one... but you know? Why extoll the virtues of your solo when you have a nurad? )
I don't think I got that entire key-talk about how they switched them around.. Is that a technical difference, or does it impact how the instrument feels?
Hey Bern Long time Ewi guy / distant admirer of yours here. Need a new EWI soon and was looking into these other models and forgot about the side F new key. Was a bit annoyed them changing it when so many fingering possibilities exist and its a bad direction to compete with digi-saxes - I dont really use that key on the real sax and similar key on clarinet as much as I should even though the acoustics are way beefier. Anyway gave it some time and thought if it could be turned off maybe it could also be used just as a stand alone cc send to not sacrifice the hold keys or only have the effect coupled with glide or the pitch bend. That could be really useful for the next proper model. Debating getting the 4000s again though not unhappy with 5000 - hope the 6000 has pitch bend up plate and follows in the number line rather than the usb-solo series.
Thank you very much Bernie. Very useful guide !! I still do not get what is the difference between the Breath Settings, you setup withthe rotary knobs, and the Breath calibration you setup with the bS menu ( Sensitivity, Dynamic Range and Rate ) . Does this mean that the Breath Controller has 5 different settings , or there is an overlap between them . ..........also , if there are 5 different parameters to setup, what does each stand for ? Thank you very much in advance.
Thanks so much for this! I bought my EWI years ago on a whim as my first ever wind instrument, but it has spent all but a few months of that time gathering dust. Dug it out a few days ago to see if I could get back into it, and after applying your recommendations I'm amazed at how much more satisfying and confidence inspiring it feels to play already, even at my very beginner level. Will definitely be picking up your presets pack soon, and hope this is the start of a rewarding lifelong journey.
I have only gotten about half through your video, but it's great. I just got my Solo about an hour ago, unpacked, put charging cord on, played around a bit. It is easier to use the octave rollers than I initially thought...it will take practice to get smooth, but it is simpler.
Hi Bernie, I just discovered this video and went on to purchase the EWI presets for Thor on iPad. Can i ask you how I add vibrato to the sounds? I'm using the recently launched RobKoo R1 windcontroller which doesn't have a breath sensor in the mouthpiece...
Help! I've recently bought an Akai Ewi, followed your setup video, and it works great. I just found this video and download the free version of sample tank 4. Is there something in the configuration I'm missing? It's hard to blow through the instrument when I'm using sample tank but not when I'm using the internal sounds.
