Ugh, nothing makes me more angry than when bullied students are ignored no matter how many times they tell the teachers, but as soon as they stand up to their bullies they get in trouble. What the fuck were those teachers doing when actual bullying was happening, standing around picking their noses? Its so fucking unfair! I thought, whatever, another couple of crazy European countries who have to have a war. Why can't they just have peace and enjoy life. I really didn't care much for eastern european countries, even though my father, who was from the Baltics, went through the same thing in Ww2, that Ukrainians are going through today and that area was controlled by Russia for decades until they broke away from Russia. My father witnessed the Holocaust when he was a youth.. He witnessed Jewish people being shot by the Germans. He was a partisan and captured by the Germans and forced to join the German air force when he was 17.Even if you were only there for a brief period, you made a contribution to helping Ukraine get its freedom from Russia. Sharing your experience will help others who aren't in the military or think their country shouldn't get involved and don't appreciate what it means to have to fight for your country's freedom, so it won't be oppressed by a tyrant and dictator. Your experience is a snapshot of what the Ukrainian population is going through. A first person account is the most effective way to relay to others what is going on there. Things can expand very quickly and spiral out of control, and a war like this can spread like a disease or a plague and infect other countries. I believe it won't end until every city town, and village is destroyed in Ukraine. It's easy for people who are thousands of miles away from this conflict to just say it doesn't concern me or my country but with electronic communication and technology, the world is a lot smaller than ever and we are more exposed to what's going on in the world. The Ukrainian population and culture is being wiped out by Putin, and he won't stop until the former Soviet empire is restored and all the former soviet bloc countries are back under his control. The 1940's wasn't that long ago and it's starting to happen all over again. Unless the world stands up to Putin, and he is forced to accept that peace, not war, is the best option for Russia and he and Russia have much to lose it will be a changing environment for Europe and its stability. If only Putin didn't fantasize about taking over Europe and fighting the U.S. and he could be rationed with. He will send untold numbers of Russian men to their deaths and destroy untold numbers of families, both Russian and Ukrainian. He will try to scare Ukraine's allies with nuclear threats and may even launch a nuke somewhere to scare the voters of America into supporting Russian interests and defunding Ukraine this Nov. This would be an injustice to the Ukrainian civilians whose town and cities are being razed and their populations forced into being jobless and homeless. I think of the Arizona memorial in Pearl Harbor and the Iwo Jima monument in Arlington cemetary. Those people were forced to defend themselves and fight for democracy, when dictators want to overthrow democracies. Those people hopefully didn't die in vain so the next generation can just forget about what them and their families had to endure to secure peace and freedom.
