Welcome to Mer Cruises Solo! my name is Meredith and I’m a cruise enthusiast. I took my first solo cruise in 2018 and have been addicted to cruising ever since - 24 cruises and counting! Most of the cruises I take are solo and I share with you what it's like to cruise by yourself (for reference, I'm in my mid-30s!)
Sometimes I also cruise with friends or family, but no matter if I'm cruising alone or with others, I will show you useful information such as: the boarding process at various cruise terminals, cabin tours, ship & ship venue tours, food & beverage options, dress codes, entertainment, crew, behind the scenes tours, excursions, port details, itineraries, etc. If you have a cruise question, please reach out, I'd be happy to share with you all that I know! I have an eye for detail and everything about cruising, from the ships themselves to the incredible feat of operating a cruise ship, I find SO fascinating!
Follow me on social media for real-time cruise updates!
I'm so glad you were able to include the quick clip of Captain Kate. Perhaps it's been mentioned but she was the first American female captain of cruise ship. It's fitting she works for Celebrity because she IS a celebrity in the world of cruising! Paul
@@fredericpiller actually they did away with that perk quite some time ago! I found out that a friend of mine had gifted the wine and fruit tray to me 😊
have you travelled on Princess Cruises? that's our preferred Cruise Line but it's lovely to follow your voyages with different Cruise Lines. Do you pay for all the cruises yourself or do you have a way of using points etc as in flying options. How many cruises would you do a year or does it vary on destination, cost?
@@lorettamcnaught8552 I haven’t tried Princess yet, but hope to soon! I pay for cruises myself but I do occasionally use credit card points and/or miles to pay for flights! I typically do about 6-8 cruises a year, depending on how long they are, as I have a full time corporate job with a set amount of PTO.
I love the Edge class. I only sailed once on the Celebrity Ascent and that's now my favorite class of ship. This vlog brought back so many wonderful memories. I want to try the Beyond next.
I was on this cruise with my daughter; and on deck 12! Sorry I didn't meet you; I didn't take any of the excursions you were on. It was too bad about Amsterdam, but everything else was great.
Hey Mer! What a great video! So nice to hear Captain K talk about her ship with so much passion and pride 🎉 cant wait to see more of this ship, review on the food, entertainment and cruise in general, with the areas and service etc. and your floor length dress absolutely gorgeous, i was laughing “didnt know what to wear” boooom looking stunning 🤩 love the comfy but elegant sandals and your accessories. Happy Cruising!
Thanks for showing off the tour. We just got off our first ever cruise on NCL Gem and the two best highlights were the behind the scenes tour and the crew and senior staff introduction!
Thanks for giving us a glimpse into this great ship. I will be boarding the Beyond on October 19th for an 8 night cruise to the A B C islands after coming off the Volendam. That will be for sure a big difference between the two ships😃
@@rosebrenner8146 yes it will! 😆 I did basically the same, Volendam in July and then Beyond in Sept - huge difference! I absolutely loved the Beyond, I’m hope you will too, have a great cruise! 😊
I sort of missed having a regular balcony, but I loved this room! It was spacious and I wasn't in it long enough to mind not having a balcony this time!
Thanks for the tip about the Riverside Hotel offering a shuttle bus to the cruise port. I’ve just started planning a solo cruise in January 2026 from Fort Lauderdale on Celebrity Ascent. Your hint will help me with my planning. Glad you’re loving Celebrity. I cruised on Celebrity Edge in February this year from Sydney Australia to New Zealand and loved it. It was my first large ship cruise and now I’m hooked.
Hey Mer!! What a video ship and video, it made me started looking and considering booking this cruise to go on vacation with my mom. I love outdoors so I love all the greenery Deco on this ship. Sad about that storm, but yes that Florida bipolar weather. Great solo room but really appreciate you advocating for solo cruisers. Much needed. Yes, even when we travel solo we are willing to invest in a spa experience, a good wine and book, etc. I don’t care for casino but I rather put that money to treat myself. Also I enjoy reading through the comments all the support from this community and heyyyy i see more likes and views with every video!! 🤩❤🎉 you deserve it all! 🎉 and yes i have watch this video like 3 times… 😅
I agree, I like to treat myself especially more so when I'm cruising solo, such a shame Celebrity doesn't take that into account when they're punishing us by charging so much extra! But you're right, this ship is absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to cruise on more Celebrity Edge class ships! Thank you so much for being such an avid watcher of my videos! 🥰
@@MerCruisesSolohoping that cruise companies will be listening and work on that , I can definitely see more people doing solo cruising in the future. Lol watching the video again, i loved that they were playing rain songs, i would’ve enjoy that, “it’s the little things”… i cant wait for more videos on this cruise so many cool things about this cruise super glade you decided to go with this one, new cruise line+new cruise port. Cheers 🥂 sorry your things got wet, thanks for sharing because everyone traveling from Florida should always prepare for rain, so i think this will help others. Also currently watching while i eat pizza. Lol.
It's a rarity, but Bar Harbor can get fogged in so bad it's like a Stephen King horror film. Although it's sad to miss all the islands and mountains and the scenery of a crystal clear day, I feel the fog lends a bit of atmosphere and there's still lots to enjoy in Bar Harbor.
This video is part of a series! To start from the beginning on boarding day in Reykjavik, Iceland, click here! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pqZl0dH2Fho.html
The exact “pea soup “ fog hit us in Bar Harbor on the last day of our HAL 24 day cruise to Greenland and Iceland! Felt really eerie! We also had to cancel our excursion but still enjoyed the town albeit in continued fog! Thankfully it was our second time there so we had already been to Acadia:)
@@universallyunique this cabin is priced for one person since only one person can book it, so it should be less than the cost of booking a cabin that can fit 2 people. You would have to do a comparison on the itinerary/dates you’re looking at to see if they’re charging more - I’ve heard Celebrity does do that, but not for every itinerary.
I was on the Beyond in April this year with my sister, and it was definitely one of the best experiences ever had. We will be on the Summit to Alaska next year .❤
I'm a fellow female solo cruiser from Norway, 55 years old. I just started cruising last year, and since I'm working full time, I can't do more than one cruise a year. I have my vacation in November/December every year (when everything is cold and dark here up in the north), and this year, I'm going on the Celebrity Beyond to the Panama Canal and Southern Caribbean. I feel very humbled to be so privileged and able to travel to the other side of the world, possibly once in a lifetime, exactly how you describe it in your video, just the other direction 😅
@@triflo4838 wow that’s amazing!! I just got off the Celebrity Beyond in the Caribbean and it was incredible, you’re going to have an amazing time! Check out the video of boarding day on my channel, just posted it yesterday! I have yet to do the Panama Canal, it is on my bucket list! 😄💕
@MerCruisesSolo I came across your channel because of the Beyond video, and I liked it so much that I subscribed and watched more of your videos 😀 Counting my days, every day, until my big adventure, three days in Fort Lauderdale (never been to the US before) and the the Beyond 🛳😎
@@triflo4838 oh wow, that’s amazing! 😄 so glad you are enjoying my videos, I hope you have a wonderful time in FL - Ft. Lauderdale is one of my favorite areas!😊
Did you see the "melted" lamp posts on the boardwalk? They were designed by an artist to ressemble lamp posts that see to have melted to the ground. I hope you come back to Halifax again as there is way way more to do and see. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
I did see those, so cool! I will definitely be back to Halifax to do and see much more, we didn't get enough time in port for me to do as much as I would have liked - next time! 😊
I appreciate this video and information so much. No way would I book a solo cruise on any ship knowing the view was going to be obstructed...especially if I'm paying double or triple to cruise solo. For sure, Celebrity is not on my radar at this point. Thank you!
@@rhondalyn100 yes, it’s very unfortunate - and my cabin was not marked as obstructed on the Celebrity website, I only knew ahead of time because of the amount of research I did 😕
As a solo i love the "I'm not doing anything today vibe", I'm on holiday, i don't want to be told to be here at this time, then we go here, if i can't walk of the ship and around the port i stay onboard and relax.
I love the way you see my town from the ship, I can even see my house 😊. If you come back here hit me up and I will show you around everywhere. And we will do the Trollstigen. I was visiting the prima in port today here in Ålesund.
@@christianolsvikalesund6303 thanks so much! I’ll definitely be back someday, I have to see Trollstigen and everything else Ålesund has to offer, such a beautiful place! 🤩
Travel on the "edge" in 40 days, solo traveler (male) so looking forward to the rest of this series. I don't think price was to bad ~$1600 aud 5 nights, did book well in advance that may of helped. I hate the solo supplement. 17 cruises and counting, all solo.
@@melthebelgian.5837 I definitely found prices to be better booking further in advance as well, I hope you have an amazing cruise! The Edge class ships are incredible 🤩😍
