Boarding NCL Prima in Reykjavik, Iceland | 10-Day Solo Cruise!

It's boarding day in Reykjavik, Iceland! Today I step foot on the Norwegian Prima for a 10-day solo cruise around Iceland, Norway, Amsterdam & Belgium! I am SO excited for this cruise, it's my first time visiting Iceland and Norway and I had such a good feeling about the itinerary boarding the beautiful NCL Prima! Not only is my Solo Balcony cabin absolutely gorgeous, but so is the ship - to be fair, I have been on the Prima before, but it was in the Caribbean and a totally different vibe than in Northern Europe!
I was (and at this point in the cruise, still am) unsure whether the Prima is the right ship for this itinerary - will it be too crowded if the weather is bad and everyone is forced indoors? One of the best features of this ship is the amazing Ocean Boulevard on Deck 8, a panoramic view off the side of the ship, tons of comfy seating and loungers, and two infinity pools! But will we get to use any of that at all on this cruise? You'll have to watch the rest of my videos in this series to find out!

Wow! Your room was amazing. I cruised Prima last year on your itinerary and stayed in a solo inside (99 square feet). I didn't even know they had solo balconies and I'm a pretty thorough planner. I loved the tiny room and the solo lounge, but I'll take a better look for a larger room in the future. Great job and wonderful video! 🙂

Don’t worry, it wasn’t your lack of planning or research 😊 the solo balcony category is new as of January this year! They rolled it out across all of their ships and now have a “solo” category for Inside, Oceanview and Balcony cabins on every ship! 🙌🏼

I was on a 15 night Panama Canal cruise on the Norwegian Bliss last Dec, and my experience with NCL’s $50 per shore excursion credit is because their excursion prices are usually higher than other cruise lines prices.😊

@@julileighton2983 pack plenty of layers! I suggest comfortable sweat wicking or water resistant pants, plenty of socks, you’ll want tops that can be layered with a sweater and jacket. If you have all of that you’ll be fine! Oh, and would definitely suggest bringing waterproof shoes/boots!

We did this cruise from Southampton to Iceland last July. We loved the itinerary, but it was way too cold to enjoy the outside area on deck 8. We also thought many of the venues were too small. We won’t be taking this ship again.

I had the same concerns, but we were so fortunate with good weather for most of the trip that I did get to spend quite a bit of time on deck 8. I ended up liking the Prima a lot more after this cruise compared to the first time I had sailed on her. So interesting how divided everyone is about this ship! It really was a great itinerary 🛳️

I’ve done a solo cabin on the NCL Escape but in the Studio Suite. Really cool if you are going solo. Also, the $50 Shore excursion credit is only for the 1st guest if you have multiple guests in a stateroom. I wasn’t too fond of the Prima. The spaces felt small and disjointed. I’m booked next year for the new Prima Plus class ship, the NCL Aqua and I’m looking forward to checking out the changes and improvements with the spaces.

I felt the same way about the Prima the first time I sailed on it (in a studio) but after this cruise I feel differently and actually like the ship a lot! I’m also booked on Aqua next year, looking forward to seeing how they’ve changed things.

It's actually the Away "Medium" checked suitcase, and I love it! Great size - not overly big, but still very roomy.

Boarding the NCL star in Reykjavik in a couple of days. Do you remember what the price was for the taxi from the downtown hotel to the ship? and did you have any problems getting a taxi?

Very easy to get a taxi, I had my hotel call one for me and they came in less than 5 minutes! I believe from the hotel I stayed at to the port the taxi cost was around $20 but I don’t remember exactly. Hope that helps!

I didn’t notice any crowding and never waited in Indulge any of the times I went! The only wait I ever had was at The Local a few times.

I booked a cabin that is designated as a “Solo Balcony” and it includes access to the Studio Lounge! This category is new as of January this year (and available on all NCL ships!)

They don’t, but they do run laundry specials where you pay a flat rate (around $35) for as much as you can stuff in a bag!
