Hi, I'm Mo! I'm a cat herder, mood reader, and backlist booktuber living in Asbury Park, NJ, and working towards a sustainable lIfestyle. I try to post videos three times a week about my reading, sustainable journey, beach life, cats, and more... Thanks for checking out my channel, please subscribe to see more!
Hi Mo. Thanks for posting this. I'm loving reading audio books through Libby. I particularly enjoy taking your recommendations on queer books, like "A Lady for a Duke". I now have 3 more to check out thanks to this vlog.
Oh I'm glad to hear that A Lady for a Duke is pretty queer normalized bc the time period did make me a little nervous to try it. I'm glad you hadn't been spoiled for Comfort Me with Apples!
Hi Mo. Simak is a writer Myeck had in common with your Dad. Myeck turned me on to them. I think we have, have read and enjoyed almost all of Simak's books. I recognized the ones you mentioned.
Moon of the Crusted Snow sounds intriguing! I kind of like those post apocalyptic survival stories. I didn't know Chips came from the streets! I love seeing all the cat footage ❤
Yes!! All our current cats are found right in our back yard! I really liked moon of the Crusted Snow and the next book, as well. But the second one is much slower and longer. I Would like to see what you think of Moon of the Crusted Snow!
Love all the cat footage! I really enjoyed Comfort Me With Apples and definitely took me longer than it should have done to catch onto what was going on!
Thanks for the tag. I do use the library! Not too often because I'm also trying to read my physical tbr down too. But that's also hard because I keep collecting books to read, haha. 😅
The struggles between reading your owned books and borrowing from the library is real! Then add in picking up books, especially from LFL... I wonder if I'll ever get my TBR down!!
Several years ago, I had to buy the library a new copy of a new release book. My dog chewed on the corner of the borrowed book, and I had to pay to replace it. I was so angry because it was so expensive. I swore I would never borrow again but I got over it. Now I just use Libby and Hoopla and I gave in and purchased an e-reader. I do like it because my eyesight is failing, and I can make the font bigger. But I still buy physical books because I love them so much!
That's tough, bc the book was lost to an "act of god" or act of Dog which should be treated in the same way!! I was annoyed when I had to buy a new book, but only at myself, bc it was totally my fault! I like the idea of an e reader a lot. They are so easy to carry and bring with you places, you can highlight, or make pages you want to go back to, easy to see! Maybe one day I will use one... Anything that helps reading is OK in my book (no pun intended!).
It's good to know more about the death of Jane Lawrence because I have a copy but haven't read it yet. I think I'll like it. May sounds like it was a great reading month for you! ❤
There is indeed a 12 episode Japanese drama from 2020, titled "Rental Nan mo Shinai Hito", which is a fictionalized account of the story. It was pretty interesting, though I found myself wondering how his wife felt about the situation. I also read the book earlier this year, though that didn't really provide much insight on the matter either.
Oh neat! I wonder if that show is streaming somewhere. I think I also saw a novel with a similar premise coming out soon. Yes! I wonder what his wife thinks, especially bc they have a baby!
I'm loving the summer lineup you got here! ❤ I really enjoyed the last word. It was a fun thriller. And it's been awhile since Ive read a Riley sager. While I enjoy his books, I'm never really blown away by them except maybe one because of the setting, lol. Happy reading!
I feel the same about Riley Sager. I like the books OK, but they are not groundbreaking for me. I like when they go off the rails, but only 1 has felt that way for me. I hope you have an awesome summer of reading!!
Thank you so much Ana for the shout out! I truly appreciate it 💞. Also, love this series. There is such a huge gap on youtube for this kind of content/series.
I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this video. It is so nice to get to know you better. I am so very sorry to hear about Flounder. It is always so hard to say goodbye. I think you did a great job decluttering. I struggle with that so much. It seems the more I do the worse it gets. I feel like I am drowning. I want to make my home safer as I age. I don't want things in the way that could trip me up. Congratulations on the standing desk. Let us know how you like it. I would love to have one. I use an old dining room table that belonged to my husband's grandmother. It is horrible. I sit too much. I need to make some changes. Thanks for inspiring me a little bit. Always good to see you on the tube!
I'm so glad you liked the video!! I feel exactly the same way! Like drowning. I cannot get ahead of cleaning, decluttering, or basically anything. I recently realized, I don't know how to clean properly, but also that I hate to clean! I know that having too much stuff is part of what is overwhelming me. But I also know I'm not ready to get rid of things, let go of things, yet. So I guess I just need to plug away at it, cleaning and decluttering where I can and be mindful of learning how to do those things better, or to better serve me. It is important to safeguard your home! For physical reasons but for peace of mind, also! I hope you are able to make some headway in that process. My husband uses our dining room table as his office. It's nice in some ways, but I do like to have a separate space. I haven't stood at my standing desk, much, but as I use it more, I'll let you know how I find it! Thank you so much about Flounder. We miss her, but we had a long lovely time together.
I just watched the Northern Exposure scene where Ed buys Ruth Ann a gravesite! Maggie is the reason I still long to rock a pixie cut. This was a great list! 😁
Wow, I hadn't heard of Patricia Wants to Cuddle, brilliant. I'm looking forward to reading more Christie. I feel like you about Mary Oliver - it's great that she reaches people who aren't massively into poetry.
Patricia... was really fun and a little zany. I found a vintage copy of King Kong that I had really wanted to read, but I ran out of time. Maybe I'll save it for next year! Which poet would you recommend as the next stepping stone from Mary Oliver for new poetry readers? What should be people next author on their poetry journey in your opinion?
@AnaMoShoshin That's a big question - one idea is to read some anthologies to get a sense of what a whole bunch of poets are like. Oliver fans might be keen on various aspects of her work I guess, such as spirituality, nature, life-writing - any of which could offer roads to go down.
I think I'm gonna do the Library tag and talk about the library and audiobooks in that! I always knew I loved them, but rediscovering the library has rally changed my life!! I'm so glad you love audiobooks, too!
I enjoyed hearing seeing your stats! My reading goals are going fairly well, my main goal is to read from my shelves and I have actually created some shelf space (mostly through a big try a chapter I filmed recently!)
Thank you! Glad to hear your goals are going well! I haven't had a chance to watch your try a chapter but it looks great!! I need some time to concentrate on it so I can write down all the books I'm going to want to read! It's so nice to have some shelf space!
I'll be gone in the dark is a really good one, but I'm interested in true crime but I remember it was very investigative. I loved reading the fox wife by Yangtze choo. I'd love to read the ghost bride too! Not a bad mix of read/unread books from two years ago! I sometimes make it a priority to read older books on my shelf to decide if I want to keep them or not.
I'm going to try and read it in May! How are you doing? Is it spring in your neck of the woods? The animals are from a local working farm recreation in a public park. We saw some barn cats, too but I couldn't film them!
Irving is such a sleeping beauty! 😍 I have the exact same copy of heart of darkness! That's too bad that some books have gotten moldy though. But this was another successful unboxing video 😁
The Last Devil to Die is the only one on this list that I have read. I loved this series and wished I had listened to all of them on audio. The narrator on The Last Devil to Die was fantastic. I am looking forward to Richard Osman's next series featuring a cat!!!
I'm torn bc I really like to read them physically, but the audiobooks are also soo good! I only listened to the first one. If I ever do a reread of the series I might do them all on audio. Yes! I really want to see him write different characters!
