I bought a cylinder mower at Christmas but it seems to be damaging my lawn its as high as I can get the blades will my lawn adjust to the shorter cut and come good or have I got the wrong lawn for a cylinder mower
@@lawndreams5952 25 years metal fabricator site pressure welder and engineering....Always have the contact point of the blade 90 degrees to the direction of the grinder so if the blade catches it punched forward not up towards you and also when ya get good technique ya can aim the sparks as when ya get the sweet spot the grinder does all the work...
Hey mate! Love the shorter cut. I'm about to order turf in QLD but I'm tossing up between Sir Walter and Palmetto. The internet seems biased based on the supplier you look up so not sure which one to choose. Which one would you go with?
Is this required by law? I'm in toronto, canada. And want to install a garden bed against fence, do I need a drain system like you've installed to move water along the neighbours babckyard along?
Yes depending on what form of iron it is I know iron sulfate does and I just finished making a bunch of it and that's one of the things I'm going to confirm for myself but I read plenty about it online. Beautiful Bluegreen crystals that you dissolve in water making it isn't something I recommend towards just anyone but it worked for me because I was making it two drop purified gold back out of solution but the end product is certainly nice for both applications
pull the weeds early in the front and you wont need chemicals later. Its easier to keep on top of it then to try and weed a whole heap later which will also block grass growing where the weed is
Love the vid, just got a SB 45 14”.. can I please ask what oil you used on the clutch before mow and also do you wipe down reel after using a oil or lube or just dry Cloth?
Is a super level lawn required for this? Mines a bit bumpy (I grew a new lawn from scratch with plugs last year), should I topdress before mowing with a cylinder mower?
Thanks for this video. Ive just received my new Allett Stirling 51cm cylinder mower. I've been cutting my Sir Walter with a Ego 21 select cut at 40mm. Ive slowly over the winter and early spring got it down to 32mm. This morning I used for the first time the scarifier cartridge on 15mm, then cleaned up with the Ego on 32mm. THEN cut with Stirling set at 30mm. Could you please suggest what to do next ? I've just retired and am new to this sort of mowing. Any advice would be appreciated Regards David
Hey David I always found my buffalo to be at its best at around 25mm. Going below 20mm on that grass type leaves it too light/straw looking as it grows via surface runners/stolons only (no underground Rhyzomes like couch etc). How did it come up after the scarify? Got to be careful on buffalo doing this but should be ok at the height. If it’s in good nick, and if our of dormancy, considering the time of year I’d dump it to 20mm for a good mow, then hold from then on at 25mm. Thanks mate 👍
Thank you...I put in a big day today...I scarified down to 10mm..cleaned up with the ego ,and then mowed with stirling set at 25mm. Pulled out 9 whiz bins of grass..unbelievable how the stirling handled it...8 hours or scarifying and mowing...looks UNBELIEVABLE compared to the spongy thatched original state.
That's how I fucked up my grass. But I went from 1 inch down to 1/4''. lol Poor men's zoysia, seeded compadre. It did not like it at all. And I topdressed with sand on top of that. haha
@@lawndreams5952 It's green but very thin. Most of the grass died or didn't recover yet. Well, it's all green, but about 1/5 of the density it was before. Something like that. I also topdressed the front lawn, but I didn't scalp it. That recovered fast and it's almost as dense as it was before. I was just spot topdressing the front lawn bc someone went over the lawn and left ruts. Very discouraging, I'm, not sure how to stop people from going on my lawn or leaving their dog shit.
The customer probably felt sorry for you when he saw you ordered a truck for 0.05m3 of concrete that you could have mixed in a wheelbarrow, and saw you didn't have concrete tools 😆
Hey mate thanks for asking! Was about $250 to add this zone onto existing system. Considering solenoids and controller for another ~$300 you’d be up for $550-600 full DIY min
Through the existing terracotta pipe. Took a bit of force as the terracotta wasn’t great. May have cracked some PVC in the process. Was a 3m length so had to trench back into the front yard to get it through
Hey mate I rammed a smaller dia PVC pipe through a larger, partially blocked ceramic pipe. A combo of high pressure garden hose and hand digging from either side under the path also works if no existing conduit (have done this for irrigation)
Don’t know why I watched that as I don’t have drainage issues, but that was an entertaining 14 minutes. I’m trying to work out where you are. Definitely not QLD or WA. Not Adelaide as you would be trying to bottle the water. I reckon Melbourne. I’ll have to watch some more vids. Cheers
Yeah works a treat and ground drains perfectly. I’m a bit more south than where the terrible floods are happening at the moment however. Thanks for watching 👍
