Brian Gregoire, a graduate student at the University of Alabama and lifelong college football enthusiast, has created this show called "The Era" which specializes in discussing college football from an administrative point of view. "The Era" includes analysis of college football teams and games as well as discussions about how NIL, conference realignment, and the transfer portal are shaping college football. Additionally, Brian provides viewers of "The Era" with insight that he has learned pertaining to success in the business of sports as he pursues it. It is truly a "golden era" for college football and for those of us that have a hunger to work in the college sports industry. "The Era" is here for it!
The NIL has ruined college football and that is one of the main reasons Saban retired and the NCAA needs to get off their sorry butts and put a limit on what a college player can make off his name and stop this sham of the NIL!
I’ve gotta be honest I don’t agree with this take at all. NIL has provided student athletes with the opportunity to capitalize off of the brand value that they’ve built for themselves and be entrepreneurial in their efforts towards doing so. It also gives teams an opportunity to teams who never had a chance to compete with your Alabamas, Georgias, and Ohio States of the world a chance to jumpstart their program and purse a championship. Yes, there’s a lot of negatives associated with NIL as there is with anything new and implemented quickly. But overall it’s had an overwhelmingly positive impact on college football.
The pride and team spirit are now gone, it is how nuch will you pay me to play at your school and that is not right! Pro ball is whatever, but this is college!
@@kingkong7617I completely disagree with that too. Pride is still very much a thing in college football. After spending the summer around the Alabama football team last year I can confirm that there is no shortage of pride on that team. Them guys would run through a wall for each other and for their school, even in the NIL age.
I was really surprised by the lack of their team speed and their lack of urgency. Last year when they played us in the Orange bowl, I just attributed that to them having so many players opt out. Now after watching these two FSU games, it’s apparent that it’s more of an issue than people realize. Yes, DJ Ukelelle isn’t very good but that can now be said about that team as a whole.
Florida State looks very disoriented and it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what the issue is. They looked very apathetic and disengaged, not a lot of intensity at all. It’s a very talented team but it’s not being applied at all and that’s sad.
Yeah I guess not that was mind blowing. To be fair most people expected them to be and had every reason to believe so heading into the season. There’s something weird beneath the surface with this team.
@@TheErawithBrianGregoire not as much as I should’ve brother. I was playing it safe, 1st of the month rent you know. But yeah, new quarterbacks for both teams, and new defenses. No way that was hitting over.
@@TheErawithBrianGregoire I’ll revise what I said. West Virginia still has a lot to play for in the Big12. It’s way early for judgement. It was a terrible loss but Penn State may be really good and we won’t know how things play out for either of those teams going forward in their seasons. I wasn’t being realistic nor optimistic with my original posting above. Wish the mountaineers a great season in the Big12.
@@jansonroberts2616West Virginia has to get a lot better at doing the small, fundamental things and minimizing mindless mistakes. I think there’s a lot of potential in that team but they have a lot of improvements to make if they want to compete for a Big 12 title.
UPDATE: Trevor Etienne won’t be playing against Clemson today so disregard whatever I said about him in this video. However, it doesn’t change my prediction, Georgia still has enough depth to beat Clemson 38-21.
My opinion is slightly biased being a ND fan. I gotta roll with the Irish. Morrison and Watts in the secondary and Cross on the d-line. Greathouse, Faison, Leonard and Love are all gonna be REALLY fun to watch. Biggest thing is how does the left side of the o-line suit up against the pass rush of A&M
I totally see where you’re coming from, if Notre Dame won I wouldn’t be surprised at all. There’s many reasons to believe that Notre Dame is a playoff team and this is a winnable game for them. Considering the circumstances surrounding this matchup I have to go with the Aggies but an Irish victory wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.
@@TheErawithBrianGregoire Yeah with the environment of A&M at home and the youth of the ND o-line, just hoping the game stays close late and Riley can make a big play on offense
Look, hear me out, at the end of the day I had to make a pick. Every pick that I make has a confidence level associated with it. This one has a confidence level of about .3, I’m not extremely confident in it. If Florida wins I won’t be surprised because they’re in the Swamp but my gut tells me Miami.
You know, this is one of those picks that I made because I had to but I’m not extremely confident in it. My guy tells me Miami but I wouldn’t be surprised if Florida won.
They’re scheduled for a home and home in 2029 and 2030, then again in 2032 and 2033 as of today but future expansions could change those schedules. Go Dawgs!
Love them future matchups and conference realignment is like quicksand, you never know when Clemson could end up in the SEC. 👀 This matchup is college football at its best and I can’t wait for Saturday!
True fun fact. Georgia Tech use to be the Golden Jackets back in the day, unfortunately they couldn’t figure out how to keep their golden jackets from fading to yellow so they finally just changed their name to the yellow jackets. Keep up the great videos Brian. It would be nice to see something entertaining from those rambling wrecks of Georgia Tech. Go Dawgs!
That gold is a hard color to maintain, they probably could nowadays with today’s materials that they use on uniforms. Nonetheless that’s a really interesting fact and I never knew about that Janson, thank you for sharing. I too hope Georgia Tech keeps it interesting on Saturday for entertainment’s sake.
@@TheErawithBrianGregoire Brian, as a kid growing up in McDonough Georgia, we went to many Georgia home games and several games at Georgia Tech when Georgia went there to play. We were told of the “fun fact” so many times over the years that it became truth. LOL. I’ve done some Google searching and while I can’t find any evidence of it actually happening, it is a fun fact that I’ll cherish and of course pass along.
@@jansonroberts2616Beinga be to experience that rivalry first hand especially as a kid must’ve been awesome. I love the Georgia-Georgia Tech rivalry, Clean, Old Fashioned Hate. Please don’t hesitate to share those “fun facts” in videos in the future too, I love to learn more every day.
Love Boise State’s depth on both sides of the ball, I think it elevates them over other G5 teams this year and puts them into CFP contention without a doubt. Go Broncos!
Love it, Go Broncos, I love the passion, and I could very well see Boise State going 12-1. Just out of curiosity, what team would have them losing to this year?
Boise State 12-1 . Go Boise. FYI we are fully loaded all the way around top to bottom. Players and coaches. I suggest you do some serious research before you type. Don’t @ me
fully loaded is 2010 BSU..... this team would lose 0-60 against 2010 BSU (and thats not even being disrespectful - its basically on par with Derek Carr Fresno State who got waxed by that Boise team 52-0)....... they aint fully loaded - theres a ton of questions on this team. mid level floor high ceiling.
@@MattBuild4 your clueless my friend we are stacked with returns and transfers. Not to mention the coaches which made the biggest difference. I won’t even get in the top running back ect… You should do better research before you type. 12-1 bank on it.
Update: I’m aware that Boise State named Maddux Madsen as its QB1 for this season. I know I talked about Malachi Nelson in this video as I was confident that he’d win the starting job but congratulations to Maddux. I still have the same confidence in Boise State that I expressed in this video with Madsen under center, he’s going to kill it!
I’ll be honest Memphis was my other option to pick for the G5 spot on the CFP this year and it was a tough decision between them and Boise State but I went with the Broncos. Freshman QBs are always a gamble but Malachi Nelson is so talented and smart that I think he’ll get comfortable rather quickly.
Thank you Janson, I really appreciate it as always! Out of curiosity, what G5 team do you think will do the best this year? I picked Boise State because they’re ol’ reliable but I want to hear who you have.
@@TheErawithBrianGregoire Actually, I’m going to keep my eyes on the Memphis Tigers. There’s a lot of hoopla going around about how good they are going to be this season. But I’m the type to look before buying in on someone. So they could very well not be what many are expecting. I’ll be watching though.
@@jansonroberts2616Memphis is interesting to me too, I would not be surprised at all if they make the Playoff. I would definitely say that Memphis is in that category of best G5 teams this year.
Good video Brian. Watch this Georgia team this season. This year’s defense will be really special. Bobo will also have this year’s offense be the best scoring offense ever at UGA. Go Dawgs!
Georgia is scary this year. Rough schedule which is why I predict them to go 10-2 with losses to Bama and Texas but they are stacked enough offensively and defensively to win the National Championship is positioned correctly.
I don't think that's accurate... teams don't look lost when playing Cleveland at home when it's frigid. They're statistically one of the worst cold weather teams in history, 14-34 in games below 34°F. The last cold weather game they played (Saints) was an L? It's not really an advantage, all players from both teams have to play in it... and fans have to sit in it... and you can't host other events outside of summer months. Dome is the way to go for growth.
@@siggrizzler4869 That’s a good point and I do think that a dome can be useful for hosting events. Cleveland has struggled in general throughout the 2000s and 2010s so that’s why they have a poor record in cold games because they have a poor record in most seasons during that time period. The cold is a proven advantage for those who capitalize on it and it helps Cleveland when they have the talent to get it done. Honestly at this point a retractable roof is the best way to go. That way Cleveland can host a Super Bowl and have open air games too.
I definitely acknowledge Matt Rhule’s pitfalls but I don’t want to fixate on them. He turned around two programs that were really struggling in Temple and Baylor and I think he can do the same with Nebraska.
Brian, Nebraska’s move to the B1G isolated them from the recruiting base in Texas. NIL has now cleared that isolation and Coach Rhule should be able to have success there. Consistently? Only time can tell but he has proven that his college system works or at least has worked in the past to build a strong foundation. There is still the fact that he hasn’t won on the largest stage but Nebraska should be a much better program going forward.
