How long does the tape have to be? Sorry I might have missed that part lol
@wisitchan

There is no specific length but I guess it you want me to put a specific number to it then I would say 1 foot of length for short cast and 1.5 to 2 feet of length for long cast. Hope this helps.

Nice clip. Don't forget about the shoulder as well. The caster is actually using all 3 joints. Wrist, elbow and shoulder all have to work together in unison.

This is a great video, and you have nice gear :) I find it hard pumping it really slow in the spring, I get stuck so much in my river I try to keep it just off bottom but I will try this.

Hi being new to fly fishing Kindly advise should I go into euro nyphing or traditional fly fishing any balanced gear recommendations and place to buy will be highly appreciated for overseas purchases. Thanks
@wisitchan
@wisitchan 4 месяца назад
The euro nymph and fly casting are two very different skills. You should do both and it is a lot of fun. The well-balanced setup will allow for a better experience with euro nymphing but certainly is not mandatory to get started. As far as places to buy your fishing gears I would try Facebook Marketplace in your area for used gears. If you prefer new gears then any local fly shop is the best place to start as they can give you advice based on local fishing conditions.

What kind of reel ?
@MilesFortes
@MilesFortes 5 месяцев назад
Quick question, I see that by using the tape trick, you hand is right against the wall and the and the rod and reel stays pointed perpendicular to your body during both the back and forward cast(like it stays in a straight line the whole time). While in some of your other videos and other casting tutorials, I see casters have their reel pointed like 45 degrees off perpendicular from the body during the back cast. Should I start off with casting like I would if I was against the wall and then slowly adjust it to the latter? Thanks for the video.
@wisitchan
@wisitchan 4 месяца назад
That is up to you (your style), and fishing environments. For example, if there are lots of over hanging tree branches above your head then it is probably safer for you to cast a bit to your side to avoid getting snagged. On the other hand, if there no obstacle above your head then you can cast more vertically ( similar to positioning oneself against the wall). The most important thing to remember is that once you start to cast on a particular plane: either straight up vertically (like the positioning against the wall) or 45 degree to the side, YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE PLANE during the rest of the cast. Let me know if this makes sense to you.

But your demo with the tape on the wall is wrong as you are showing your hand such that the rod would be near horizontal behind you. Which is not what you are doing and as you know would make a bad cast.
@wisitchan
@wisitchan 4 месяца назад
Absolutely, the rod should not be horizontal at the key position. My bad if the demonstration wasn't clear. Thank you for pointing that out.

…. The finished fly is undoubtedly beautiful, but the whole aspect of innovation and creativity is lost by using pre-made insect parts.

Nice video, well done. 👌 A few thoughts: Hauling is pulling the line thru the guides. It is done with both, the rod hand and the line hand. We pull the line hand away of the first guide and the first guide away of the line hand. Thus both hands are used to create the speed of the line thru the guides. In most fishing situations I have a target to aim at, may it be a fish, a certain spot or area on the water. In order to hit the target I need to match line speed. The level of line speed needed, I can produce with or without hauling. If I do it with hauling, I will have less rod bend compared to the none hauled cast. In a max distance cast, the hauling of course offers me the chance to increase max possible overall line speed. About haul timing I recommend to start hauling about when you start rotating the rod to create the desired line speed. In most situations I don't use the haul to create max possible line speed, but create the desired line speed in the easiest way (compared to a none hauled cast allowing to apply less force via rod hand).
