If you have ever fished Spey flies for Atlantic Salmon/Steelhead you know just how beautiful these flies are. These flies usually are tied on traditional hooks with a unique tapered loop up-eye but if you were to tie these flies to your leader using a popular improved Clinched knot you come to realize quickly that something doesn't look right. In this video, I want to show you how to tie a Turle knot; a more secured knot to tie your favourite Spey flies (in my opinion).
But don't take my words for it! The folks at Rio Fly Fishing already had some tests done in their laboratory. They found that the Turle knot retains approximately 92% of the tensile strength. On the other hand, the improved Clinched knot retains only about 66% of the tensile strength.
