I prefer to power it off of ships power. And not fool with battery packs. I guess the issue then is to find the right cable to a USB power source. Also when first setting it up, can send an image to a monitor to see if all components are loading without error? I've read some have had to remove the AHARS due to loading errors. Also do the antennas need to be vertical or do they work horizontally as well?
Tried following video. Flashing never starts and get message saying there was error spawning the child process. Then bought new sd w/adapter from crewdog on Amazon and it does not work.

Had a problem with my 3 year old stratux not putting out a wi fi signal, this cured it Thanks. There are 6 downloads to choose from on stratux, I downloaded the us img zip file ( for USA) that's 558 MB big and followed the steps.
I followed the steps but for me it just says caging on the ahrs page for almost 2 minutes and then the ahrs turns on and it just drifts until its pointed about 4 degrees down and 40 degree bank to the left disregrard, turns out I needed to hit this zero drift button instead of the set level button, seems to be working fine now.
This fixed my Seattle Avionics Merlin carry on ADSB after it suddenly quit working. I leave the unit plugged into a car charger/cig lighter outlet on the plane. I think a stray Tron zapped it. Going forward I will unplug the cord until the alternator is providing steady volts/amps.
so question with regards to the AHRS what is the propper way to set this up, mount to the window and then turn it on, or do I have to mount it up, turn it on and then goto the webpage to calibrate it level for each flight ?
Thanks for the video. My SD card could not be read by the reader. Swapped in a new one and etched the file as instructed. Etcher said the flash failed on the validation, but I tried it in the Stratux anyway. After about 30 seconds the green light came on and it worked again. Saved $500-700 as I was about to order a new one, possibly a different brand.
Nicely done, but I would suggest showing howto properly shut down unit using your iPad via that status screen. That way many don’t have to reflash the software as often.
Im getting frustrated with this device, constantly needing to reflash the sd and now keeps dropping the wifi on any device. *******UPDATE********** My Stratux is fine testing led me to the battery has a low voltage and causing the brownouts and restarts. Get a better battery to power this. So far testing has shown very good results with zero brown outs or restarts in 45mins.*****************
Thank you for the video. I fly an experimental helicopter, which is hangered until I pass my medical. So many high priced units out there. It's like auto insurance... the insurance companies said, "As soon as it's the LAW to have insurance, the price will be much lower, because Everyone will have it." Now it's Law, the price doubled, and nobody could do anything about the price! Hopefully Aviation gear will come down in price when more competitors pop up.
I have had the integrated USB power connector on the Raspberry Pi board become intermittent twice in the past year (requiring board replacement)... is that a more stable way to provide power to the board? This is getting too expensive, and I may have to seek an alternative ADS-B device.
If I am assuming correctly that the board replacement is due to repeated stress from plugging and unplugging the battery with every use, consider these options... While they probably won't support your particular device, your feedback might help them influence the manufacturer of the case to redesign the case in a way where wiggling the cable won't have such a detrimental effect. They might also have other tips to try.
Every time I download from "stratux.me," it says the file is corrupted. How can I make this work so I can reflash the software on my MicroSD card? No where on your website do you have a link for customers to be able to contact you directly!
While I haven't looked through the forks on the Stratux Github account to confirm the following claim, according to others the answer is, "Pi4 will not work out of the box." It CAN work (and scuttlebutt claims there are people working on it) if you make changes to the software, but there is no reason for the Stratux devs or Crew Dog to bother support any official Pi4 revision because the components needed by pilots won't take advantage of Pi4's upgraded features. Instead, the Pi4 will just use up the battery faster. There is no advantage to using a Pi4 at this time, unless you just happen to have one lying around.
I've had my unit for several weeks now and just now (after watching this video) figured out my unit AHRS sensor came with an orientation setting to be mounted on the "right" side not the "left" side of the aircraft. No issue since I'm still a student pilot and have not started fully using Foreflight and iPad in flight but wanted to make sure you knew the orientation issue since the video suggests you ship the units with a left-side orientation.
