I thought of going to help Ukraine in the front lines as a private of finnish army, volunteering myself. But I found out they only take higher ranking military personnel there from here. So I guess I just... I don't know. I know some people donate money to Ukraine but my money goes to helping nature be preserved and revived here too. That's to me more important than any human issues. I'm like Pentti Linkola mentality, with that. Not that I live outdoors now, haven't for some years, but... I guess I could again, if I took it up. Priorities. But still, if it wasn't for nature's need for help from stopping other humans destroying and punishing forests, I'd have my first priority on Ukraine front. Too bad I'm not a professional sniper with no injuries and such, but I could still help if they'd let me, and if it was my first priority. Right now they're logging wood from an ancient forest in Ivalo, northern Finland, or Inari was it... but that's what I'm here to stop now, or at least have them not do clear cutting (avohakkuut) but spare at least some of the trees there. I know some tree cuttings can be good for the forest, but you're not supposed to cut the whole damn forest. Especially not for heating hotels when we'd have earth-warming (maalämpö). I was about to go there to stand between a tree and the logger, so that they'd have to cut through my body first before the tree, but when I asked the greenpeace representative about where exactly there was the logging grounds, so that I'd go there, the guy convinved me that if I'd go alone, they'd just cut all trees down more likely. That's the only reason I stayed home. It's sad I seem to be the only one having any real interest in this. Forests, especially ancient forests, are our greatest treasure in this land. They are a great treasure to anyone who spends time there. That why I want to protect them, and also because I don't believe in humans being somehow "above" other species morally or ethically. Trees are good living beings. Sorry, I always post long comments even though I don't do it on purpose. But, Ukraine has my support for what it's worth. Slava Ukraina! Mikko Murmeli

Just followed the story as " calmly as a Finn" from Nederland. I couldnot understand with all due respect that the Finnish boyfriend thinks that " Ukraine is more advanced yhan Finnland" , as for me Finnland must be at the vanguard of so many essential developments. But apart from that , absolutely intriguing and I feel happy today seeing that so many Ukrainians have found shelter in that safe and solid Finnland . Best wishes from Nederland.

glad to see that Ukrainians are being welcomed into Finland with open arms so to speak considering that during the Winter war where many Finns died defending their land against conscripted Ukrianian soliders of the Soviet armies under Stalin - a rather under covered story that needs to be discussed no matter how painful the memories, in my opinion, as I continue to maintan that: Ukrainians must now face the possibility of death defending their land against Russia or risk again being conscripted as little Russians to fight in Putin's further wars of Russian imperialist expansion and pacifying its neighbours at a latter date where they risk being sent in "Russian meat wave attacks" Rus exercitum delenda est!

Obviously you are unfamiliar with the facts or are deliberately ignoring it. You ignore the fact that Ukraine bombed their own citizens since 2013. Russia was requested to protect these people and only intervened 9 years later when they were asked by desperate Ukranian citizens to stop the attacks of the Ukrainian government on them.The real despots here are Poroshenko and Zelensky. But you in your ignorance blame Putin. What are you smoking?

Beautiful voices, it’s a shame that an elderly despot has inflicted so much pain and suffering on millions of innocent people. Shame on the Russians for being a passive human mass, not real people with a sense of dignity. Thank you Finland for harbouring these great people in their time of need. You have had your bitter taste of Russian imperialism in the bygone years. The heroism of your grandfathers and fathers will never be forgotten as will not your own contemporary kindness. Love from Canada 🍁 We have quite a few people of Finnish origin in Northern Ontario which, with its abundance of lakes and forests, resembles Finland a lot.

Ukrainian resistance to that despot has also helped complete Ukrainian national identity and reinforce Ukrainian self-respect. It is crucially important to stand with Ukraine and keep helping Ukraine, as a fellow democratic country. If we help defend Ukraine as a fellow democracy, if we defend its citizens and independence, we will also defend our democracies.

It's interesting that only russians still thinks like imperialists. They often talking how Poland will take part of Ukraine and Hungary will take some part. The era of empires are over, getting territories with several millions people that will hate your country won't benefit you. Main resources today are people and ideas, not slaves and lands. Every country can easily buy things from another, you don't need to occupy lands to get their product, just buy it.
@gloin10
@gloin10 21 день назад
@puzzled012 Did you earn your potato? Finland had to fight off Russia at least TWICE to gain and retain its independence. "just keep pokung the bear, and you will see that your "friends" will sell you in a heartbeat!"? Typical Russian exercise in projecting Russian attitudes onto other countries where they simply do NOT fit. "once situation drastically changes Finland becoming Swedish province or teritory divided by Sweden and Russia is not off the table"? Seriously? Dude! You have to stop listening to Putin's 'Ruskie Mir' bullshit! Sweden is about as likely to cooperate with Russia to divide Finland as Hell is to win the Stanley Cup.
