Swoon has aged so well imo, possibly as a result of not being 'immediate'.

Started with Jeff in the late 90s. Read about his weird/sad demise in Rolling Stone mag. About 7 years ago I picked up Tim's box set that has everything up through Greetings. You cover some interesting artists on your channel. NRBQ - will be watching that one soon

Smile is a record that came out in 2011. Recorded in 66-67. I don't know why so many don't count it, while others count Stars and Stripes. I don't consider Stars and Stripes because its more of a tribute to their hits by country artists.

As a bassist, I totaly agree the fact that Stewart defenitely changed the way of drumming. He's so gifted and creative! You must listen to Louis Cole, who had the same effect on me recently than Stewart did in the 70's - 80's

Only five studio albums and perhaps only the 3rd was “rushed” due to a lack of new material (hence there being two instrumentals) (plus Voices In My Head, a great jam which is mostly an instrumental.) Ghost In The Machine will always be my favorite; especially the delightfully moody 2nd side.

I agree with your list. I think my only change would be putting Zenyatta number one and Regatta two, but I'm not arguing. Good smart list. Both albums retain the rawness of their beginnings, while burnishing their production value, which, in my opinion, led to overproduction on their last two albums (still great, by the way), but if I wanted high end production at the expense of rawness, I would have bought Toto albums instead.

Lets give this a listen. I suspect im going to disagree in a polite Todd fan way For me the top 10 albums would be in no real order Something Anything A Wizard True Star Todd Second Wind Healing The Individualist Liars State With A Twist No World Order Making a top 5 would be very interesting as it would change virtually every day I think you could do a list of the best Rundgren/Utopia album from each decade...latter decades would be difficult and restricted for choice though

A lot of factual errors and a lot of extraneous asides that no one gives a shit about. Should be a 2 minute video - not over 16 minutes. And we don't need to see you picking your teeth or slurping your drink through a straw. Edit please!

Saw them at the old Atlantis club, before they were known, with 25 others on a Friday night. Back then, pre 9:30 club, the acts would play Friday and Saturday nights, they were early punk and new wave. Went back on Ssturday night to see em again, pretty much everyone who was their on Friday came back and bought a friend. Great 3 piece band, maybe the best.

I disagree. The fans told the Beach Boys what they wanted. Personally, my favorite era is 66-73. So, I prefer that era. But what do they do if they are performing Long Promised Road or All This is That, while the audience is screaming for Babarann or Little Deuce Coup? I blame the media for a lot of that. Mike blamed Capitol Records for promoting them as the number 1 surf band in 1967, when they hadn't been a surf band for several years. Disney plus also played into that image of them. That was the worst Beach Boys documentary I have ever seen! VH1s Endless Harmony is still their definitive documentary! Disney plus could have done so much to bring awareness to their later stuff! But they didn't.

Love Captain Beefheart, have all his albums, some on CD and even cassette. Plus, have posters, original artwork by Don, and even his bandmates, along with of-course many a books! In addition, to seeing him perform 4 times!

There's a certain charm to that jangle pop sound of UK bands of that era. It emanates the whimsical charms of young kids engaging with their passions in a free uninhibited way. Many of the songs from early sprout (aka most of swoon) were written by Paddy with just himself and a guitar. A lot of the demos are available on youtube, I suggest looking them up as they're just as great as the record itself. As with many art forms, I think once it becomes a career, a lot of the magic and freedom is muddied by expectation and responsibility. I think there's a huge difference between "I produced this album to fulfill a contract obligation" and "I produced this album to express something in me the best way I can" and Swoon wreaks of the latter.

You dont know how weird things were High school in the 60's in Calverton MD, until you remember someone in the neighborhood had a copy of trout mask replica (how did that happen)? Since the early Zappa LP's were only selling 10 to 20 thousand each at the time, yet somehow we had them too, Beefheart naturally followed due to his relationship with Zappa and his sales were even less than Zappa. Trout mask had a impact unlike anything else, we could recite from memory, long sections of difficult lyrics, really got into it. Although I do like lick my decals off and mirror man I could not put them ahead of Clear Spot or Trout Mask....,but its all great stuff, ready and waiting for the crazy little things of future generations to discover. Thanks for the trip back.

Nice review! My wife and I saw him in Portland, front row, just off center. I grew up in the Midwest, I am also 63, I've seen OH over 100 times live. ( In the 70s, 80s, 90s he would come through and play Minneapolis, Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Columbus, etc) for promo of a solo album, then come back through with Utopia's newest album, then another solo tour for fun. He opened a bar in Chicago and played 3 nights for about 50 ppl each night....."Wham bam thank you ma'am tour". I was so blessed to see so many shows in a myriad of venues. I can honestly say that if I could see any of the shows that I've seen live again, I would definitely see Me/We. He attacked every single note, every syllable of every word with such intensity and emotion it was .......well......."ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!"

Beautiful album, excellent songs. This and the next album, Tyranny And Mutation, are amongst my favourite B.Ö.C. albums. I get what you mean in how it got louder and heavier, even on that next album. T & M still contains some of that old fire though, especially with Mistress Of The Salmon Salt.

There was always a kind of tug-of war going on about the direction of the band. Eric Bloom wanted to go with a more upbeat pop flavor.Allen Lanier wanted to stick with the dark cryptic mythos of Sandy Pearlman"s writing. They collaborated as best as they could but their convictions were never resolved. Allen Lanier tried to bring back the mysterious story of The Blue Oyster Cult with Imaginos but the production was fraught with misunderstanding, time constraints and the continuing polarization of what Eric Bloom wanted. Thus that album never came off as what the first three albums provided.A shame, I really loved the dark mystery and imaginings that Lanier and Pearlman were trying to promote. I never liked BOC after Fire of unknown origin.

Without Lindsey Stevie wouldn't even have been in FM. He is a true artist, she is a sell out. She's also lost touch with reality. It's noticeable on the main FM fan pages she is hated by 90% of the members. The way she treated Brett Tuggle was appalling too. She fired him from FM purely because he decided to tour with Lindsey not her.

I started with Agents and moved backward. The first album is so different sounding and magical. The first three are all great but the first one and Secret Treaties are the best. I find Tyranny to be a tad overrated. I don't know who the fuck this guy is but he's rather tiresome.

He's pretty disengaged from the audience on this tour. Just plays the songs without saying anything in between them and makes some rehearsed stiff gestures during some of the songs. Almost like he doesn't really want to be there. Pretty strange.

I've seen a lot of rock concerts but the best five I ever saw was NRBQ, late 70's through the eighties in SanFrancisco in small clubs and auditoriums. Terry, Al ,Joey and Tommy just blowing the roof off the place. I remember coming out of the Warfield hearing somebody say "Al Anderson was God". I.agree. It's a criminal oversight that they are not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
