How can a thick tire like that get a leak I thought they were made out of Kevlar puncture-proof
@Whogives2shets
@Whogives2shets 5 месяцев назад
Unfortunately, none of the military standard tires are Kevlar. They are very puncture resistant, with most of them being 16 ply walls. The inflation system works to help keep cost-effective equivalent to "bulletproof" by having a mode that consistently pumps air in if there's a large or small leak so you can get to safety.

I might end up using this video as part of a class on pmcs next drill. I notice too many incomplete 5988Es. Most people just end up pencil whipping or quarter-assing pmcs on their vehicles and then complaining that stuff never gets fixed (although to be fair, MATES does tend ignore a lot of issues that aren't critical).

I still use it every time I do drivers training even though I hate hearing my own voice😅😂. One additional thing that helps is teaching new troops what the vehicle parts are. You would be surprised how many people don't know a single part underneath that hood/cab and how it works to know when it's not working how it should

@@Whogives2shets sergeant I have a question on the Alley Dock, Did you started turning the wheel left before the 3rd Axel reaches the cone/line or did your started turning when it touches line?
@Whogives2shets
@Whogives2shets 9 месяцев назад
You should turn when that 1st axle (the one closest to the truck) reaches the cone UNLESS you are extremely close to the white line. It rarely happens, but there have been a few times the truck is so close to the line that if you turn at the 1st axle, the last axle will touch the line. In order for that to happen, it has to be 1 or 2 inches away, though.

Wouldn’t turning off drain the battery? Also, connecting lines *before* physically connected to the trailer and ensuring it’s locked in may cause extra steps taken unnecessarily. I really appreciate the video as a safety reminder on procedures to connect and disconnect. #thankyouforyourservice🇺🇸
@Whogives2shets
@Whogives2shets 9 месяцев назад
Because they are very new drivers, we make them turn off the vehicles before exiting to ensure the vehicle isn't left in gear. We can hear the park brake engage, but knowing if it was left in gear required the instructor to climb up every time and check. It also made it easier to hear each other if the instructor was explaining something or being asked a question. As for connecting the lines before connecting the trailer, it absolutely is an extra and unnecessary step that still stays in doctrine from before automatic slack adjustors were created. We just need to update the way we train in the Army.

Sounds exactly like what I’ve been doing for 3 years as a civilian trucker. Should be an easy transition into the army as an 88m. But why do you hook up the airlines first before coupling? Supposed to couple first then connect airlines
@Whogives2shets
@Whogives2shets 10 месяцев назад
The easy answer is the Army likes to do shit the craziest way... The actual answer is that it's based on old doctrine that came before automatic slack adjusters. By hooking up the airlines and backing into the trailer, you would know if the brakes were holding securely if the trailer didn't roll. Unfortunately, like many government doctrines, it needs an update

Is it transporting and loading n unloading cargo and driving or is it being a mechanic as well involves ?
@Whogives2shets
@Whogives2shets 11 месяцев назад
@Kwe99 Oh, ok. No, you don't have to be a mechanic to be an 88M. It does help to have mechanical knowledge because these trucks are as low quality as you can imagine. However, because of that fact, you will learn a lot about vehicles during your time as an 88M. 88M is a very versatile MOS and transitions extremely well to the civilian side as well as being a mechanic. The primary job as an 88M is definitely a lot of loading and transport, but there are lots of Soldier responsibilities and random tasks as well. You will go to the field and train, conduct convoy security operations (shoot and qualify with the big guns), ammo/fuel/supply support to small teams, and lots of physical training. As for random details, you will learn how to mop rain, clean restrooms better than a hotel maid, cut grass like you own an FL golf course, and you will be able to stay up for 24 hours for no explainable reason watching a door and still function with 15% of your brain.
