My name is Emily Cait. I'm a long-time book lover, reviewer, and a former bookseller.
I did my Masters in English Language and Literature where I specialized in the representation of women in genre fantasy aimed at young readers. I am passionate about using books as tools to develop critical thinking skills and making connections online.
I host a book club here on RU-vid. This year we are exploring the haunted house over six livestream discussions. You can learn about the reading list for 2023 here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z7igCIZJOb4.html
I also host a patron-exclusive book club that is reading through and analyzing Stephen King's bibliography. Support for these long-form projects comes from my patrons! You can support the channel at: www.patreon.com/EmilyCait
I’m reading book 1 to my 4th grade class… it’s been quite an amazing read right from the beginning, my class has been GLUED to this story… we are reading it together, and the silence is palpable as I read… they absolutely love it!!!
Im trying to find an article or someone making the suggestion that the novel is a reference or allusion to La Casa de Bernarda Alba by Federico Lorca but no luck…
I found the trickster series to be the best I found the trickster series to be the best of all universe I found the trickster series to be the best of all universe though I have hopes for the numare chronicles. On the other handOnce I got to high school the Lioness books lost there appeal.
I feel it's supposed to be a more realistic take on the options a woman of her standing had during that time. So it's supposed to be kinda depressing. Our views of romance are different than what it was during those times. Back then it feels like romance is a luxury and people made best of whatver situation they had and the cards theg were dealt.
I went into a Coles last week after submitting my application online. I browsed the store until other customers left, then I introduced myself to the manager on shift. I must've made a good impression because I have an interview tomorrow, so maybe it was just like that during the height of Covid?
Really late to comment but I just had to say that you did a fantastic job on this huge project, Emily. I enjoyed this so very much. For my two cents, I prefer biographies and autobiographies shelved by the person being written about and not the person who did the writing. I approach the biography section of a book store and I’m not looking for an author; I’m looking for the subject of the book because I don’t know the name of the author (unless it’s Doris Kearns Goodwin), and I want all the Abraham Lincoln books shelved together. Just me and never mind me. Again, a truly great effort that has really paid off. Your plants are so healthy!
I’m just finishing the book. It was recommended and I listened to the audible. Why did I miss the fact that the arameri (spelling) were white and dhari (spelling again lol) were black 🤯
My first Tamora Pierce series was The Circle of Magic. I loved the idea that magic was worked through everyday things. Then I read The Song Of The Lioness. Favorite characters are Tris and Alanna.
The translator isn’t broken. She is the wrong side of the great vowel shift so the words aren’t sounding right. That doesn’t come across in the written form. Chaucer records people at that time not understanding one another because their language is a different side of the shift. Also I think you are failing to grasp the fragilities of the mobile communications network. The wired phone network is falling apart because the situation has caused it to run out of bandwidth. Any mobile network is long since toast.
one point on the crow, although I think your points on the general symbolism are more likely: in The Stand, Flagg controls crows and seems able to shapeshift into or to possess them. Considering Walter is actually not really very present in the books I doubt this is the reason for the crow, but it’s an extra point of thought.
here's the deal - if you wanna do the whole "in-store vs. online pricing" in order to get yourself fired, stop placing the blame on customers for thinking it's ridiculous you'll argue it's cheaper to make us wait an hour for you to physically pick the item and bring it to the till for us to pick up that same day. Or, start advertising your in-store prices vs. online. Thank you.
I just finished it, expecting a scare, however it was more atmospheric horror, along with following along with someone losing themselves. Good book though and the domestic part never crossed my mind until your review, great job.
Nice review. I never thought I'd see The Wind through the Keyhole as number one on anyone's list. It's my least favorite Stephen King book period. To each their own though. Glad someone enjoyed it.
Good video. What are your king reads for this year? My list is the Colorado kid, the girl who loved Tom Gordon, on writing, Gerald’s game and his upcoming release. Happy new year.
