But what isn't discussed as much are the fact that these, "bird killing machines" also spread tons of microplastic. And they also kill thousands of tons of insects every year. Don't think insects are important ? Take away insects, and we all will die.
Systems can be effective because of one aspect of their creators: our human intellect; however, their success depends on the other part: our human intentions.
Good video. One point to add regarding battery as an alternative: it has a fixed life span, e.g. 5000 cycles, which translates to 5-15 years depending on usage condition. This one factor could mean battery farm is cost prohibitive.
South Africa's Nuclear powered Koeberg power station... built decades ago... has been the most stable and reliable source of energy in country... lol, all these points are nulified by the end result... stable power...
Wind and solar has to big a foot print , in the name of saving the planet we are to distroy the environment. You need to get out and see tge damage being done to the environment.
There’s cost effective ways to generate electricity without spending a fortune on installation using tidal energy but the big companies believe unless you spend a fortune it won’t work
I'm a little bit concerned about the claim that Dunkelflaute is not a problem for Australia because we have 40 years of weather data for Australia and that in that 40 years we've only had one case of Dunkelflaute that lasted more than a day. Why? What matters is not the past 40 years, but the next 40 years because it is precisely those future 40 years that our electricity infrastructure must operate through. And IF WE BELIEVE Climate Change is a thing, how confident are we that in the next 40 years, Dunkelfaute will be no worse of a problem than the last 40 years? There is a decent chance the world will miss its emissions targets in the future and that we will need to geo-engineer our way our of a warming climate and if this comes to pass, one of the likely things we will do is spray the upper atmosphere with reflective particles like sulphur dioxide which will adversely impact the efficiency of Solar PV and concentrated solar for instance. Is relying on past history when you EXPECT CHANGE a sound strategy?
I think that was a shit rap for nuclear & doesn’t come close to outlining some of the bigger issues with renewables vs nuclear. Renewables are destroying thousands of acres of our landscapes & protected environmental areas and various species including Koalas, Platypus & many bird species and are presently destroying over 2000 kms of the Great Dividing Range just in a Qld section with wind farms and HV Grid infrastructure, it is an environmental white wash of ideology, save the planet by destroying its environment and beauty. Ziggy Forest has been given the green light to just bulldozer whatever he wants without any due diligence on environmental impact. Renewables & HV Grids have been known to start massive bushfires in Victoria and now they want to wreck our marine coast line and habitat as well with more windmills at extra cost to be ocean located. Renewables need to be replaced every 10-20 years if they are not first damaged or destroyed by storms, cyclones, hail, lightning, bushfires, ash, dust, meteorites & birds. Renewables dont have any base load output without expensive batteries or dams, have a low energy density, require very expensive (28,000kms) bushfire creating HV grid structure, the costs have been fudged so as not to show the real cost of renewables, have no recycling program and are already starting to create large windmill blade dumps in FNQ, the huge costs recur every 10-20years, they cant support heavy industry 24/7 and will still require gas or coal backup if the lights are to stay on. As far as cost and time for reactors compared to renewables that seems pretty farcical really, 18 billion dollar dam in Qld in 10 years, Snowy 2 is a bad blow out & needs to be aborted before it gets any worse. Labor want to spend 1.5 trillion dollars in the next 5 years & 9 trillion by 2060, dont back it, stop it, it is wrong, Labor hates you Australia, if they say it is good, then you know it is not, so go coal, gas or nuclear I dont care, but just get rid of Labor & their stupid renewable scam. Follow the money.
As the resin is thermoplastic, it has already been heated and vacuum processed most volatile residues have been removed. Since they were also exposed for several years it is likely that whatever might have survived manufacture have also dissipated. As the blade stacks are “interesting” and provide shelter, they may be suitable for artificial reef construction. Granted some type of surface coating might be needed for bio-compatibility or to enhance the ability of coral to bond to the fiberglass substrate. All they do in west Texas is provide rattlesnake and rat habitat.
Even if American engineers want to study UHV technology, they need to learn Chinese. China's UHV technology standards are international standards. As of 2022, China's UHV equipment patent applications reached 318,300, accounting for 41.42% of the world's total UHV equipment patent applications.
China is dominating almost every sector, except, perhaps, AI , semiconductors, and tech , at least for now. In US and the west, we’re too busy worrying about more pressing issues , such as making sure LGTBQ people have the most miserable existence imaginable, that women cannot have abortions, blaming immigrants for our problems, and “bringing God back to schools and government”. Climate change is a liberal hoax! Sarcasm aside, how China is catching up and surpassing the west in so many aspects and at such a fast pace , is very worrisome to say the least:
Purchasing land and building 28,000 kms of new infrastructure will cost $$$ Trillions, replacing existing coal-fired power stations will cost billions, replacing renewables every 15 years will cost billions. Nuclear power stations are not replaced for 60-80 years. So no.....
Current infrastructure can't handle the in-put load from roof top. Energy companies are about to add additional charges for input tariffs. This will cost $$$Trillions. Roof top solar will not resolve the issue. So no....
How long will it take to clear 1000s of acres of land, build solar farms, construct 28kms of NEW transmission lines, and replace them every 15 years? Nuclear power stations last for 80 years. Renewable energy will be planning replacement, after spending 100s billions in 12 years. In 12 years Nuclear could be online in 12 years.
Does Australia need Nuclear ? Yes it does. Renewables won't deliver reliable 365day 24/7 power, which industry needs, because the sun doesn't shine all the time, and the wind doesn't blow all the time. The only reliable renewable power at the moment is tidal power and geothermal.
Rosie, if your so confident that Nuclear is a bad idea, you should be very confident in having a debate with a proponent of Nuclear with the expertise to argue any points that you raise. Dr Adi Paterson an Australian with a wealth of knowledge in the field of Nuclear. To date there hasn't been any open discussion by both sides that would enable we the public to know what is correct and what is just flawed information.
A very rosy expose of a very complex problem, however poor Rosie has avoided the elephant in the room of having to add in the full cost of renewables, like adding the extra cost of nuclear or gas back up when the sun and wind are off, so for a valid LCOE these have to be added to the gas and wind cost. When this is done as clearly evident in some of the genuine LCOE papers by the big investment agencies then renewables eg solar and wind are some 3 to 4 times the cost of nuclear and gas. Do your full homework Rosie???
You know nothing about nuclear power nuclear medicine I'm an engineer that built the isotopic tractor nuclear medicine at Lucas Heights you know nothing and have no authority to speak on the matter
Renewable energy is only viable if you have zero other options available for all the well known reasons......wind and solar are like driving a car that breaks down all the time and if you wait for a period of time might start up again. FFS people have some common sense and get some basic electrical theory explained to you. The transmission lines, decimated landscapes,15 to 20 year life span of towers and panels, even less for their battery storage if they don't catch fire, is an ongoing environmental and costly disaster that is destroying our way of life and putting us back in the dark ages. Nuclear can avoid all this BS but the renewable zealots won't have a bar of it....because they are just stupid or have a vested interest in it. There is huge money thrown around this false green agenda and they all want a piece of the pie!
You're right! That's why I later made a whole video on UHVDC and China's dominating role in that tech ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1CVlbBYl5OU.html
There are few advantages to an authoritarian rule. But this sort of change is one of them. Once the leadership is convinced to make a change, then that change will start happening. In China's case, the wide-scale pollution as cars were introduced in large numbers made a very convincing case for very widespread and fast changes away from burning fuels.
