As someone who has been boxing for 8 years and currently competes in MMA. Yes. Learning how to block/dodge a punch whilst putting combinations together on another man is essential, period. That’s what fighting is, it’s just a slower version of it.

I 100% agree, there is a certain cognitive awareness that can only be obtained by putting on gloves and going for it. You can't condition your self to begin hit and punched at without training, being able to stay calm ect, that fact that people believe you can learn how to fight by just hitting pad is crazy. And also as you said the distance and timing game is the difference maker, I remember getting beat up and down the mat by some 50+ year old old school Karate dudes, great times.

I believe anything that makes you more athletic and stronger can help you in a fight. That includes weightlifting, play, football, and basketball and etc. A bodybuilder, powerlifter can certainly cause harm to someone who doesn’t train at all in anything. Strength does matter…. That being said, I agree with most of what you said…. I just don’t want many in the martial arts and self-defense community tend to underestimate the importance of strength and athleticism. Many actually people down play in…. We need to understand that almost anyone can punch and kick at you hard enough to pose you a threat even if they lack martial was training. That’s all. Also, any self-defense practitioner should also have a strength training regiment that goes along to complement their martial arts, even if it’s calisthenics and isometrics. Look how much Bruce Lee believed in strength and conditioning. I know you agree with that and I saw some of your other videos.

For multiple attacks, it’s not a bad idea…. So I would say YES.. For multiple attacks you may need an equalizer….

Yep, sparring people better than you will always make you better especially over time…. Most combat sports athletes know and understands this. Beating up on people you are better than does nothing but maybe boost your ego…

Yes. Learning how to hit, without being hit, can ONLY be learned by sparring. In the UK where I live, I would say THE MOST important self defense skill for a man is learning how to slip and evade punches while simultaneously hitting a moving target who doesn't want to be hit, all of which can be learned without injuring your training partners. But, it can't be learned without sparring. Thanks DJ. God Bless
@nmr20067
@nmr20067 13 дней назад
To answer your question, YES, sparring is important…. Bruce Lee has in an alleged old quote. If you never spark, you’ll never know how what you will do or how you will respond in a real fight…. But sparring does not have to always be hard. And beginners should be moved along slowly in sparring…. Even when I did l traditional point karate(that everyone laughs at today) when I was in middle school, we put on head gear, a mouth piece and we sparred…sometimes hard! Them old school black Karate instructors from the 90s was serious....for real!

of course it's necessary, You have to BE hit and HIT people to learn how little it takes to disable you. Free sparring is what makes you REALLY fast, accurate, balanced, aware of fakes, angles, distances

I discovered Prof. David years ago on RU-vid. I've studied various martial arts for most of my life. The guy is legit with tons of "outside the box" ideas on self defense fighting. He's one scary dude I would never want to fight in the street.

This guy is also a phony!!! A fake Wannabe Bouncer... the man never formally trained.... if u watch his stress test with that stupid man Lee Morrison you will notice that NOBODY in the video can fight. I've been exposing this guy... I also challenged him to FIGHT, he wants none of it... cuz unlike him I am trained and I am a real martial artist with experience in Karate, MMA, Kickboxing, Taekwondo and Judo... plus over 20 years experience as a Bouncer in Mexico Holland and USA.

Michel Mulder seems to be a good and valid instructor to me. But, sometimes he makes a wrong comparison between his style and Krav Maga. The pluck against a choke for example: In KM you NEVER make the pluck when pinned down at a wall!! THAT'S NOT KRAV MAGA! Either, they tought him the wrong technique, or he was in a fake KM organisation. And sometimes he critisizes KM techniques, even when they are pretty similar with his style...

I think that escape is dumb . Look at her back positioning. Never give your back up . KRAV wouldn't be my go-to defensive art . But that's me . Personally, I like striking arts. I like Philippines' art's myself. Going into a hand to hand or knife or stick combative is a smooth transition due to most movement mirroring each other . I would never rule out any art. They all have their strong and weak points . I tried BJJ too hard on my body. Well, my knee, actually . I have an injured ACL . So Mauy Thai with Iron Palm training one day with Kuntao Silat or the whole art of Kali . Which I believe to be almost a complete system .

Krav Maga is a mixture of techniques from different systems. Professor Vee is LEGIT. It better to Krav Maga may have gotten its technique from Jujutsu

There is another school in Colorado Springs. I had the honor of training there. This system is by far the best system I have ever seen. This is real life situations. When you hit their mats, there is no half way attackers. They train as it really happens in the street. Not just defend against one strike as if your attacker is just gunna give up after one strike. Fantastic system, tried and proven to work! Prof David is, in my opinion, one of the very best self-defense instructors.
