20 years ago, I was a student at a technical school and my girlfriend was studying at art school. One time I snuck into the dorm to visit her, but halfway there my girlfriend played this song. So I left immediately. Later when I asked her why, she discovered that a group of male art school students were waiting in ambush for me to attack for stealing the most beautiful girl in the class 😄. I proposed to her right after she graduated, but the other guys seemed very bitter 😄. Later, those male students and I became long-time friends. When we were drinking together, we often recall this memory
This is an ancient piece with the theme of an epic moment of Chinese history: the last battle of founding of Han empire(the empire that gives the name of the Chinese majority Han ethnic). When the rival Noble Chu army and its King Xiangyu, once most powerful war hero in China was ambushed in all sides by the peasant formed Han army who are singing his Chu native songs(a signal that most of his fellow country men are no on the enemy side). He sang the farewell song to his lover and killed himself… and thus the birth of one of the greatest empire of China out of death of its hero enemy.
Does anyone know if this song is used in a specific Butoh performance? I swear I've heard it in a Butoh video. I could be wrong, but this song popped up on a movie I'm watching and immediately I recognized it.
I am just fascinated by huge difference between european and asian plucked strings instruments. Different style, different hand moves, different mood .... the music in the video absolutely amazes me with the intensity. So full of energy and dramatic, loved that.
The third part includes the last five short paragraphs. The first two paragraphs write that Xiang Yu the King committed suicide in Wujiang after he failed. The low music atmosphere is in sharp contrast with the previous climax. Among them, the melody of "Wujiang Sui" is tragic and tragic, shaping the artistic image of Xiang Yu's generosity and tragedy. The last three short paragraphs depict the various scenes of the Han (enemy)army appearing in a triumphant posture. There are often different cuts in the performance, the purpose is to concentrate the mood of the music and avoid lengthy. Xiang the King’s feeling for his loving to his wife and his seeing the death as returning home is performed to the fullest.
The music as a whole can be divided into three parts, consisting of thirteen paragraphs with subtitles, namely: Column Camp, Blow, Point General, Lineup, Line, Ambush, Jiming Mountain Battle, Jiulishan Battle, Xiang The king lost the battle, Wujiang squatted himself (Xiang the King), the enemy army played triumph, the enemy generals fought for merit and returned to the camp with victory. The story is based on the historical facts of the battle between Liu Bang and Xiang Yu Gaixia in 202 BC, and depicts the fierce war scenes in the form of title music. The Pipa Miss Liufang played was focus on Xiang the King at his last stage of his life and Miss liufang played the music with very strong emotion which beyond the meaning of the words.
