I swear I didn’t notice it until I was older and rewatched the movie. There’s a scene in the hospital when they’re talking about cutting off her leg and they say “you haven’t been watching what you eat”.. like they all know that shit they eat is killing her and they still insist on eating Sunday dinner with ham hocks, fried chicken, corn bread, all the stuff to make a nice clogged artery 😂 Nothing wrong with a little soul food once in a while but every Sunday
Omg this is hilarious! I loved that movie when it came out. The way Huey describes it though is spot on…..a big humungous grandmother who demonstrates her love by feeding herself and offspring enormous amounts of pig lard…….who then dies because of it…..so what do they do next Sunday! Omg I’ve never thought of it like that in the context of the movie. I love Regina King in everything. I’m surprised she wasn’t in the actual film
0:39 I like how Grandad is so obsessed with the movie, he had to correct Huey over the tiniest detail, and Huey was like “whatever, i don’t give a shit, she dies.”
sunday dinners was MY idea, they got it from me! - Grandad, stealing credit, inventing everything, and being related to every recognizeable/famous black person.
Soul food is healthy but you can't be eating massive amounts of it. It's not as bad as McDonald's or any of this other trash they be feeding us. Give me them pig feet
Soul food is just a variation of southern food and like southern it's really not healthy. I'm mixed (not black) and from the south. When I was young my grandmother could fry chicken and make it come out exactly like KFC. You could not tell difference. She served all the fixins too but it was not healthy and major health problems run in the family. So she went on a series of diets in attempt to fix and cut all the fat out of the food. The food was not as good as before but we were all healthier because of it.
When I was a kid and saw this scene I thought Huey was describing a fake movie that exaggerated black stereotypes in film to a ridiculous degree for comedic purposes. But nope, this movie exists and Huey describes it to a tee, that's the *exact* freaking plot.
I mean, there was also a bunch of stuff about hostility within the family and big mama dying made them realize how much they truly love each other, but it is a bit illogical when laid out like that.
I had so many black people give me shit for not eating unhealthy, I been recommending pesco-vegetarian diets for years. Jesus didn't eat meat in the entire bible, only fish.
See what I'm thinking, I'm not so sure Well we can't say is I know for sure that they got together again for another those meals the next week. That's what you have a feast to celebrate your dead mama who used to feed you. But now she's not doing it cuz she gone perhaps the habit will go from there but we don't know the movie ended
Bruh, I get that you like food, but likening it to heroin is really unhealthy if thats what it is like for you. You should get some medical help, a dietician, a personal trainer, an addiction counselor, and a huge helping of self respect.
