*Amazed at how fast it's spinning for a while* Well, that should be about enou... *notices it speed up even more at **8:00* O_O May as well sell my drier now...
I'm considering going back to a front loader, but concerned about the door latch. My last front loader's latch broke twice, and I had an awful mess to clean up. I switched to a top loader, but not happy about all the water usage. Can you tell me if Speed Queen used metal on the both the door and it's female counterpart in the washer? Thanks!
Bobbi, the door latch is hard plastic--looks to be high quality. After all these are designed to be in rugged laundromat environments. It also looks that if those latches need to be replaced, a few screws is all that you need to use to replace them. The door hinge is full length "piano hinge" - you will never see that on a washer at your local depot store.
Thank you for the quick reply. I will have to stop by my local laundromat and check out the latch on the SQ. I really wish they'd just use metal. How expensive can it be to use metal latches?
randomrazr I had a a Frigidaire for about 10 years, then a Samsung VRT. Neither cleaned well: small capacity and no on board heater. Just picked up an LG Pure Steam and Sidekick pedestal washers to replace my wringer and Kenmore 90 series.
That agitator looks very similar to the late 80's GE Filter Flo agitators. We inherited one from my homes original owners. Loved watching it bounce the clothes. It was a sad day when that washer died.
The speed queen agitator is better at turning the clothes then the Westinghouse. This one hesitates with each stroke. The Speed Queen agitator is much more similar to the old Whirlpool surgalator which had super turnover and washing ability.
Is it big enough for a king size comforter? Also do you use liquid detergent or powdered detergent? I saw that in the eco cycle you're not supposed to use liquid detergent...
It can easily do a "thin" King comforter, but if you have a thick or down comforter, I would not put it in there. I use both powder and liquid. I rarely use the Eco mode.
Awesome video that is a beast machine, do you know if there's a big difference between the AFNE9BSP and the AFNE9RSP? And how is it holding up? Im tired of my other washers dying in a few years.
i really hope speed queen doesn't get like their competition and starts manufacturering their to loaders with impellers. Sometimes staying true to your brand and what made you successful should not be interfered with.
Thank you for the demonstration! Got my new washer a couple months ago. How were you able to keep the water running while the lid was open? This drives me crazy!
Thank you for uploading this. Am I right that the water coming down the front is front the extraction. Appears the water drains down the front before being pumped out? Sincerily, Dan.
+ARKSpunky1 Yes. Extraction. I"ve only seen this in "water hungry" things like towels. They hold an excessive amount. Apparently SQ thought about this as there is a slit between the boot and drum to allow that. If I had been using Persil (high suds), it would have been very noticeable. Pumps from the bottom, there is a return hold in the boot under the glass portion to allow the water around the glass to drain.
Lucky you got a 542 with the fabric selector switch. speed queen doesn't make the mechanicals like that anymore. Shame, I want what you got not the current awn432.
Check out that bomb ass agitator. With a full load the clothes would get scrubbed on the way down as well. Stainless steel tub, Booyah! The agitator also looks like it has a slower 180 degree turn, as opposed to those quick thunka-thunka 90 degree turns of the 80s to 2000 Kenmores
This video inspired me to get speed queen. Found a 13 month old aw412 washer for $200 on Craigslist. Lady moved into new house and already had her crap set and didn't know what a speed queen is. Few months later found a 4 year old dryer in good shape for $130. Couldn't be happier with doing laundry now coming from JUNK high efficiency top load
I live in Texas and went to Texas Appliance and behold, they are one of the few retailers that sell Speed Queen. Laundrymats use Speed Queen. This is the best washing machine you can get folks. Beats all other brands in quality, reliability and performance...period. Will last over 30 years. Traditional SQ with dials go for $800...digital $1000 but worth the money. You won't have to buy another washer for 30 years.
Man,..look at the rollover performance! You're NOT going to get that out of any of those so-called HE top loaders,...Speed Queen kicks their butts all the way!
Mighty impressed with your Speed Queen,...I WAS looking at HE front loaders, but not anymore. Right now I have 2007 Whirlpool direct drive machine that came with the house when I bought it. I'm hoping the Whirlpool dies real soon so I can have a good excuse to move to Speed Queen. Whirlpool's okay,...but I am not a Whirlpool fan. I've watched your other Speed Queen videos and I am impressed with Speed Queen's performance even more.
