I only discovered this song a few months ago and I'm obsessed with it - I've been listening to both versions (Stephen Stills and Chicago) in the car on repeat. I really like both interpretations - this one is sort of wistful and yearning, while the Chicago's is more hard driving. I like the horns on the Chicago version too - and the more forceful vocals - I think Donnie sounds a little like Elton John?
Also, the lyrics really tickle me up -"boohoo, I'm so lonely, I need a hit record and then the girls will notice me. " I mean - have you seen what Donnie Dacus looked like in the seventies? I don't think he would have had trouble getting a girlfriend!

LYRICS (YEAR 1987): Some walk by night Some fly by day Nothing could change you Set and sure of the way Charming and bright Laughing and gay I'm just a stranger Love the Blues and the Braves There is the sun and moon They sing their own sweet tune Watch them when dawn is due Sharing one space Some walk by night Some fly by day Something is sweeter When you meet 'long the way We'll walk by night We'll fly by day Moonlighting strangers Who just met on the way We'll walk by night We'll fly by day Moonlighting strangers Who just met on the way Who just met on the way Who just met on the way
I almost didn't recognize this song. Back in the day... Lights-out Jazz 98.1 in San Diego, used to edit out the intro. On the radio-version, they began the song at about 0:53. Never heard this intro part till now. Still sounds great though.
THIS TUNE! I Looked EVERYWHERE for this tune. I always remembered that unusual chord progression. It was on a cassette tape that I had waaaay back long ago. Didn't know who this was or the name of the song. UNTIL JUST NOW! Huge thanks, man! WOW!
THIS, the Definitive version, AND the First recording of the song, Inspiring Regina Bell’s popular covering of it, is the BEST.❤️RIP…The Lady With A Song.
I've always loved this beautiful song. It's so soothing, so sentual. So sexual. Please tell me why in the hell can't qualify songs like this be done today?? Why
