Awesome video bro, I'm going to get into spear fishing and was curious do you anchor your kayak and could it be used for your float line instead of your board? I have an outback as well and about to start getting gear for spear fishing. This sport seems so fascinating and can't wait until I get on the water. I have so many questions but I wont bore you with all of them. I'm socal based so if you have any tips and or anything on gear etc I would greatly appreciate it.
Such good viz here for you lol. I went here the past two Mondays before work and I’d say 1’-2’ at the bottom 😂 I’m bored and raised there so no surprise at all, I’m glad you hit it on a good/productive day!
You are funny, adventurous & clever. I’ve binged on this video over the last few months. I love the initial testing of the kayak’s paddle drive and rudder, then your various snags, catch and releases and then lastly, your “sick” drone footage comments. Best wishes & stay safe:)…
@@HideshiIzu yer man in some places with bays and south Sydney you can launch easy , but where I live in the Gold Coast it’s either the surf or the bar and both are a pain , I’ve been thrown off a heap of times I even broke a carbon fibre paddle on my shins as a wave hit me trying to launch . A little off putting but still always worth it every bait drop on our inshore reefs is eaten by something 👌
1. How do you ditch your gear in case of n emergency? 2. The reason for the weights to move is because u don’t twist the belt before running it through the opening
That was a really small wave. I’ve been in some pretty gnarly stuff in my hobie revolution. Next time try coming in backwards once you get into the wave zone.
Hahaha I have around 3T of video right now but I’ve been super busy lately! New job, applying to dental school, and apartment searching has me pretty booked!
That’s pretty insane to come down to Monterey and shoot fish that are probably older than you are with a spear at point blank range. Cool dude! HUGE fish nice work!
Oof, that’s rough. If I’m targeting pelagics, I’m normally running a long bungee, float, and break away. Reels are great, but need to make sure tangles are mitigated. Or carry a belt reel.
I have been stung by most rockfish in northern california when I was a fish counter, but never a vermillion. Some hurt more some hurt less. Only once did I ever get one that deep and it was a Brown rock fish. It SUCKS. I cannot imagine being in the water when that happens.
Nice find! On another topic: I have been considering Hobie PA14 360 for spearing and ocean fishing. But major concerns about the reliability of the Mirage drive including the belt. Any thoughts on Hobie reliability and using their platform for spearing.
The Hobie drive never gave me trouble. But that didn’t stop me from putting a motor on it instead haha. I would go lighter for spearfishing and use an Outback instead. Compass is too small, not enough gear space. PA is just deadweight and 360 is not needed.
I spearfish every summer in the Mediterranean but I've wanted to go spearfishing in the pacific for so long. My main concerns are ease of access to the ocean, great whites, and a group/buddy to go with. How did you find the sharkshield wetsuit, and how does it work?
Dude your story about getting in bad water with someone you didnt really know. If the water looks bad its bad! you should always watch the water for a bit unless its dead calm. I would have never got in that water if it was ass. then getting tossed into the rocks i would have been pissed and never dove with that person again. even though it was you fault for getting in the water...
@@HideshiIzu Yup! They were swimming around in the shallows and you could see their wing tips flapping as they circled around. I even saw one swim around and then settle down to rest in this bed of algae. Was wild!
@@HideshiIzu The background in the beginning. Anyone with a lick of Streetview chops could figure out where you are. Please be more mindful. Lots of locals who prefer to keep things tight-lipped.
@@andrewbland625 If someone puts in the street view time to scour all of the northern california coastline to find that random patch of bushes and parking, seems like they might have earned learning that location lol! I think it's of course a problem when you include recognizable rock structures and buildings, but I have zero idea where these generic bushes would be - they're just a nice backdrop.
