without using EQ, i don't like this headphones for counter strike. bass is too bloated (like explosions from bomb, nades etc.) overshadows everything and I can't hear a single footstep anymore. Flashes are too bright, it's too piercing. Steps are okay to listen to. But overall it kinda sounds a bit muffled too. I don't think it's that good for detail retrieval. For comparison the Sennheiser HD560s beat this headphone in every way at gaming. Imaging, Soundstage, linearity etc.
Yooo thanks for that EQ man, I actually ended up liking it a lot more that the Oratory one, which I still found to be just a liiiitle (read: a lot) too treble heavy. I was coming from X2HRs with a Harmon EQ and putting these on damn near felt like driving nails into my ear drums.
Great review. I'm gonna get these. But I have a question no one seems to mention what power requirements are? I have a Sony STR-DH790. Definitely not a high end receiver but also not cheap. As hard as I look, I can't find what the phone jack offers. Just curious.
In many reviews of Audeze headphones I've read that EQ is a must. But how to perform it if I am not going to connect the headphones to PC or any smart device? In my setup the phones would be plugged into the amplifier that only has some filters and no manual EQ.
Hey man awesome review! I know im a little late, but do you think I could run these off of a MacBook Pro m1 14inch (as its marketed to support high impedance headphones) as my main device? And maybe even a phone or desktop until I get an amp down the line?
Too bad for such a great looking headphone to suck this much. Unfortunately Audeze can't make a decent headphone to save their life. I mean they even have the balls to give us the EQ profile to fix their shit. "Here this is how we should have make them, no f off and fix them". So what am I supose to do? let's see what are we looking at here... LP are out, hi-fi listening session are out, Hi end portable like WA 8, Wa 11 out... Am I supose to run an ADI-2 dac on everything? get an EQ board? Who at Audeze thinks this is even remotely acceptable.
I just picked up an lcd-2 headset, brand new, price 1200eu... In the authenticity card I found inside it said they were manufactured in 2016. But the ones you show here are different. Are these (you are showing) the latest version? And, how many models (of lcd-2) since 2016. It's interesting here in Spain hifi stores are still selling the 2016 model. Hmmmm.... I believe mine are fazer. Is the 2020 model fazer too? Do you think there are major differences between the ones I bought (2016) and this later model you showcase here? Bought a pair, loved the sound, but they only lasted 15 months...and they come with a 12 month warranty. They didn’t offer any good options. Probably just bad luck but I wouldn’t buy a Hifiman product again.
I feel like my DT1990 Pro is broken. I didn't find the sound staging to be impressive at all. It images extremely well for the most part but idk. Gaming they aren't that great for me. Especially compared to much cheaper stuff like the HD560S for example.
I just ordered these primarily for gaming. I had the DT1990 and found the soundstage lacking even though the sound was amazing. Then I tried the HD560S which had a superior soundstage for games but sound quality was lacking. I am hoping these combine those two things. Thanks for the review.
@@Ray-wc2wm Exceptional sound staging, better imaging, a little more detail separation then the 560S and they just sound better in general. I love them. Even the bass is more fleshed out.
Stuff evens out after 1-2 weeks I have the feeling. I don't know how that would work, maybe some warming up of the drivers. But I have to state the highs are not annoying anymore. More and more enjoyable and amazing moments where the base is not only majestic, but it's controlled and not dominating the rest. Also it gets tri-dimensional shapes like snakes, cones, with some ornaments depending on instruments used. I have never experienced anything like that. Music is so attractive now. I can't stop listening. I am using no EQ. Listening from Dragonfly Red and from a Technics SU-V8 from 1980. Digital and analogue source (Philips 877 turntable with eliptical GP-412 MK3 stylus (1980)).
@@MrLeSa95 no, I use 4 different headphones and will always choose DT990 when in quiet environment and enough amp power. Nothing has this wide stage and details.
@@RemmyMusic1 soundstage is only one of the of the aspects I mentioned. Also my intention was not to compare different open back headphones, as I have experience only with one model. The intention was to explain my experience with the particular model and to compare it against the other headphones I know. If I had experience with many different open backs, I would say so.
the ananda is best for music, if your main concern is just gaming then stick to the game one. Now if you can afford both then absolutely go for it, you won't be disappointed

Dont like cheap build quality of hifiman, sound wise I doubt its better than my hd600 with otl amp. My LCD 2C are double the price but hey they are gorgeous planars in decent price tag, compliment for my HD600

No headband changes, no driver changes, no cup changes, nothing. The only change, which we felt so tiny we didn’t mention publicly, was that we changed the glue used on the PaliPads (which are what Sundara uses.) That’s it, the glue on the pads. We did this to enhance the durability of them as we found in warm conditions, they would over time slowly come apart and this new glue is better suited for such environments. Therefore, you do not need to worry about whether you have the “latest model” as there is only one. Why Hifiman says that there is no change whatsoever made on the Sundara since 2018 ? Pads are the same since 2018 (only the glue was changed).
