I'm such a cheap SOB that I flip them around more than once. They won't go until they start to tear.....which is also a good reason to keep an emergency driver's side blade in the car.

I get my car washed from 'Hand wash' places. I'm sure that the chemicals etc they use makes the rubber in the wiper blades hard. Maybe it's my imagination. I change them about twice a year/every year at least and use Bosch ones too... maybe I am too picky.

Before sliding the rubber back onto the frame, try some silicon lubricate on the rails. They should slide in eraser.

Well, I wouldn't diminish what this guy is demonstrating. It's a good little trick to be thrifty and works to a point. If you're uncomfortable with it because you live in an area where there's additional strain on your wipers, from frequent heavy rains and snow and such, then don't do it. I'm in Orange County California and just now changed my wiper blades which I last changed in October 2013. Over 4 years. In our area wiper blades wear out less from use than they do to simple weather exposure. But I guess that could be said of anybody anywhere, it just depends on how your weather and use affects them. But out here the rubber starts to degrade and separate from itself from a lot of warm relatively dry conditions and sun exposure. I keep mine in shape by spraying them with silicone approximately every 3 months. My replacements are simple name-brand (in this case Michelin, because they were out of the Rain -X) for under $13 at Wal-Mart. So basically $3.25 a year. if this new set goes the distance. So not an awful price, even if I was to replace them yearly. which again in our area there's really no need to do because of use if you take a little bit of care of them. Again, nice little trick to save a few bucks. It just doesn't work in the style I use

CLEAN EM (DAWN SOAP) RINSE! also use a piece of 1200 grit sand paper to re-smooth the edge (sharpen) use a paper towel and some WD-40 LIGHTLY DAMN IT.. wipe 'em down...you done, I have had wiper blades, CHEAP ONES last for 3 years yes YEARS. Great tip! Thank you for making the video. I want to add some advice from my own experience, to help anyone out that cares to read this. First, when using the wipers in general, ideally try to use the slowest speed / longest delay setting than can safely be used. Second, turn off the wipers as soon as possible when there not needed as to reduce dry wipes as much as possible. Third, when fueling, clean the outer glass with the station's squeegee and be sure to lift the wiper arms in order to clean the buildup under the wipers, I will usually clean the rubber on the blades as well.
@YoStu242
@YoStu242 7 лет назад
Nice and simple, gotta try this. But I think that the plastic frame also wears out at some point and doesn't press the blade evenly against the windshield. Also rubber hardens over time but I guess it can be softened with brake fluid or something.
@lottatroublemaker6130
@lottatroublemaker6130 6 лет назад
Yes, sometimes it dries out to the point where it rips at the end. When that is the case, if it just ripped a little, e.g. 1/2" (13mm), just cut that part off, stops it from ripping more real quickly. But in general, when that happens, they are shot. When inverting the blades, it may be an idea to sharpen them a little too (that in itself helps on blades that does not perform as well anymore). You can buy this little plastic thingie at gas stations which has sand paper inside, like a little knife sharpener. You just run it with the blade in the middle and you sand down the blade tip a little, so you get down to "new and fresh rubber". I bet you can have equal success with a little rectangular piece of sand paper folded in two. Place the tip of the blade in the bottom of the fold, pinch it between your thumb and index finger and run it up and down along the whole length of the blade a few times. Then clean the blade well and reattach... ☺️

The wipers for all my cars have been pretty expensive. But, I have always just changed the wiper blade, not the whole frame, as it is much more environmental friendly. Judging from your picture, I have probably done that since before you were even planned, and I have never had any frame component fail on me (never heard of anybody having that happen either)... Just sayin'...☺️

Tried it on both my Rain X Latitudes and Bosch Marathon beam blades and it worked great! To invert the Bosch brand blades, use a flat head screw driver and pry off the end cap on both sides and basically disassemble the blade covers, then push the blade towards the center and pull out through the wider opening in the metal structure. Reassemble in reverse of dissasembly!

@ROBERTCEE
@ROBERTCEE 9 лет назад
Robert Greenhouse ....the tutorial here can work, but as he said, not with all wiper blades. (some types you cannot remove just the rubber blade insert). I experienced the same as you have on my '11 Ford Edge after only a few days with new blades. The fix for me was another video out there on RU-vid with a different type of fix, whereby you slightly bend the wiper arm, using a crescent wrench. Look for Mini Cooper wiper blade fix, or something close to that. I suggest using 2 wrenches, so that you're bending only the tip of the arm.

+Robert Greenhouse Try REALLY cleaning your windshield. I mean with 'Cerium Oxide Powder'. It is pretty cheap stuff, it is a micro fine powder that gets all the road oils/dirt/gunk, off your windshield, and your wipers wont skip or chatter anymore. Using things like RainX only add to the dirt on your windshield. This stuff is great. It make the water 'sheet up' instead of beading up like a wax or Rain X does. When the water on the glass does 'sheet up' , it means the glass is super clean. and wipers wont skip or chatter at all. And unlike the videos I have seen on here, with certain guys using the Cerium Oxide powder, using orbital buffers, if you dont have that tool, just use good ol' elbow grease. You can just wet a cheap sponge and put the powder on it, rub it into the glass with some elbow grease, and it will clean it. Rinse it off VERY well, wash it off with even dish soap!, to make sure all the oil and gunk is off the glass, (try not to get the dish soap on your paint....if you dont have any car wash handy for some reason). I do it 2-3 times a year, and it works GREAT! IF you DO have an orbital buffer with a sponge head on it, it will make it a VERY easy job. But you can buy the 'Cerium Oxide' on EBay , for a few dollars, and it will last a long time. Try it.
