How long did it take for him to finally drive again? He looks very impaired here.

I just wrapped this video up for my Intro to OT class at HCC in Houston, TX. After 25 years away from college.. after hand-picking THIS field of healthcare, I realized that I will be a professional heart warmer, cheerleader, hype king, and champion of every single soul I can possibly serve until the day I retire. I truly hope that day doesn't come until I can no longer function. My daughter will need me. My parents will need me. Countless veterans, seniors, those stricken with diseases and disabilities they never expected, will look to us, their OTA's, OT's, and their entire healthcare team to help them feel TRULY equal, truly loved, truly functional, happy, and PROUD of the challenges overcome and beaten. WE will be there every single day, cheering. We will coach our clients to new heights, new possibilities, new workarounds, and new ways to express themselves. What a phenomenal way to serve the community. I can't think of a more selfless, broad-based healthcare profession to enter than this. That's why I chose it. I'm beyond excited to get board-certified as quickly as possible. Let's GO!!!

You know, and I think that everyone would agree, the sudden loss of Al "Waistband" Roker is very sad. It's likely that his decades old battle with Heavy Stimulant Laxatives and Greasy Suppository Stool Softeners took their inevitable toll of steady health decline. At least his suffering, Bloating with Menstrual Cramping, is finally over.

Here for hrs too but very glad I watched. It truly is a fulfilling profession. You feel it in your heart and although I enjoy my office jobs I've done for 22 years, it is definitely not the same. Looking forward to applying in June and praying to get accepted. ♡

Isn't it better to be exercising or finding a way to lose weight to be able to move around better/more rather than helping someone continue to just sit around ...( This sounds harsh, I don't mean it to, I don't know how else to put it 😬)

Having a pulmonary disorder makes that even more difficult. An OT's role isnt to help their client lose weight, rather change how they execute their occupations or change their environment. :)

If ever the word needed what Occupational Therapy has to offer, it is now. In light of social media addiction, it is time to check back in, to seek purposeful engagement. Our minds need it, our bodies need it, as do our souls.

Oh my goodness, this brings memories and tears to me! In 2006 I broke my back in a car accident. I was 385 pounds and in a turtle shell. My OT and I struggled to find a tool that would help me wipe, shave, apply ointment or wash. I invented the FreedomWand. I worked with many OTs in designing the function and features of this tool. April is OT Month and I am so thankful for my OTs and to partner with you all with the FreedomWand.
