Assuming the dog goes outside to go to the bathroom, yes. If you are in the United States, the UK, Canada, or another country with low prevalence of rabies in domestic animals, almost all cases of rabies come from wild animals not pet dogs or cats. A freshly dead bat with rabies in the backyard can contain a high enough viral load to pass the disease on to your dog if he or she was to sniff it and just graze a claw or tooth against his or her nose. Without preventative or post exposure vaccination, the disease is 100% fatal.

I saw a dog on the street with salive like a jelly hanging from one side. Does it mean 100% rabies or it can be other case also? p.s. dog didnt touch me, but was very close, but im afraid that i can step somewhere on dog salive becsuse it was night and bring it on my cloth. Shoukd i do shots?
Hi i got a case that i got bite from a dog 1-2 months old , i was on a bike and i stopped for talk with a little girl, after sher dog came running to me and bitted me on the leg,and sher hold de dog for not bitting me again, but the dog didnt bite sher,after i leaved the local and came back ,the dog run again on me trying bite me but i make my bike feel on ground and did a high sound and i started running on the dog ,the dog got scared and him run away for him Owner but there was 5 little kids that live on that street but the dog didnt bited the owner and the little kids only me its 2-3 weeks that happen and i dont still feel nothing
I live in Australia and I'm so glad that we don't have rabies over here...what a cruel traumatic disease for a dog to die from...any animal really...horrible ☹

I worry, though, about the concept that if rabies in dogs has been "eliminated" that dogs are risk free. All it takes is one unvaccinated animal to be bitten by a rabid wild animal. Some places (like where I live) may be low risk - but never risk free. And unless you can figure out a way to also mass vaccinate all wildlife I don't know that it is possible to completely eliminate rabies.
So why not make a before & after video of a rabid dog pro vaccinated??? The experts said “the only vaccine that IS actually working is the anti rabies” so show us Stop showing us lies, dog’s dreaming & having nightmares and shakes during their sleep is NOT rabies Traumatic dogs shakes even more & can scream while sleeping Dog in captivity biting a cage are NOT signs of rabies YOU need to learn dog behavior NOT spreading lies
Once an animal begins showing signs of rabies there is no vaccination or cure that can be given. Pre exposure vaccination is the vaccine given before an animal comes into contact with rabies. In the United States, your dog is required to receive this shot. People like myself who work with bats are also required to receive this vaccine as it protects us against potential rabies exposure. There is also a post exposure vaccine but there is a time window for this. I believe for people without the pre exposure vaccine (most people) it is within 0 to 10 days but the sooner the better. It can be a long series of shots however given the alternative is nearly certain death (or severe brain damage if you just so happen to be one of the very few recorded cases to survive), it’s the best choice. There is also a post exposure shot for pets that may have tangled with a wild animal. Countries without mass rabies vaccination efforts, such as India, have high domestic dog rabies cases. The reason you don’t see rabid dogs in places like the United States is due to mass rabies vaccination in pet animals.
