The Anderson is on it's way back to Cleveland from Duluth (9/14), passing through the Duluth canal before dawn. Should be in The CLE around Tuesday morning.
Yes I remember a time here in Cleveland when they ran the Huletts 24/6! The incredible sounds that they made is unforgettable. Sunday was maintainance day!
fun fact, the anderson was the last one to make contact with the Edmund Fitzgerald during that storm in lake superior before the Edmund Fitzgerald sank.
It's borderline annoying this is inevitably the first thing said about her. She's worked the lakes for 70 years and is a storied ship in her own right.
Ahoy! Thanks again for watching the Arthur M. Anderson as she eases her way into the Port of Cleveland. It's a treat to see Arthur M. Anderson here on a perfect weather day!
Ahoy! Thanks for watching the Arthur M. Anderson as she makes a rare visit to the Port of Cleveland. The Arthur M. Anderson is backing up into the old C&O Dock on Whiskey Island. This is the former site of 4 massive Hulett unloaders.
The "Warning!" salute was the Center Street swing bridge. Center Street swing bridge is the vivid Red structure shown in the beginning of the video. Center Street swing bridge was built in 1901 by the King Bridge Company of Cleveland, Ohio Thanks again for Watching and Subscribing!
There's a big diesel in the Dorothy Ann. Her propellors are deep underneath her hull. She's pulling the big bulk carrier backwards down the Cuyahoga River and into Lake Erie.
Ahoy! Thanks for watching Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder make way under Columbus Road liftbridge and around Irishtown Bend on the Cuyahoga River. Please watch Part 2 at the Center Street swing bridge will conclude the Irishtown Bend video. Again! Thanks for Watching and Subscribing!
Great video of the SAM, thank you! I sure wish the close up shot of her stack would have had the silver red silver stripes of American Steamship Co. though!
Ahoy! Thank you for watching the Sam Laud! Sam Laud was launched in 1975. She measures 635' length, 68' beam and 38' depth. The midsummer Draft is 28' depth and weighs 11,619 gr tons. Sam Laud is a "River Class ore boat" equipped with Twin General Motors EMD 2 Stroke Diesel powerplants. The motors that power Sam Laud are the equivalent of 2 GM EMD SD70AC locomotives!
It's hard to believe that she was the J.L.Mauthe! She's got those lines along her hull. Watch other videos on RU-vid about the J.L.Mauthe! Quite a History! Thanks for Watching!!!
Fact: Dorothy Ann is powered by Twin General Motors EMD 2 Stroke Diesel powerplants. 16 cylinders total to yield a power output of approximately 203Kw or 272HP per cylinder(same motor as SD70AC locomotive or equivalent). Each motor feeds a Z Drive propeller. Each prop, 2 total, moves around a 360° axis which means there's no Rudder. She makes navigating the Cuyahoga River look Easy.
Was that the Cuyahoga river that the lake boat was on? Those captains really have to know their skills to pilot a boat that big up such a small river!!!
Ahoy! Thank You for watching the Dorothy Ann and Pathfinder ATB. Pathfinder is formerly known as the laker J. L. Mauthe. Steel from the J. L. Mauthe was used to make the tug, Dorothy Ann. ATB stands for Articulated Tug Barge.
I'm glad both the SYKES and the JOE BLOCK have kept the old Inland Steel paint scheme. The whole Inland fleet from years ago was always the best kept and looking fleet on the lakes.
Ahoy! Thanks for watching the Wilfred Sykes making her way around Collision Bend on the Cuyahoga River. She's headed upstream to the Blast Furnace dump site.
Oh what I would do to be a crew member on the lakes right now. These guys are lucky, although they are beyond hard workers, the ability to be on the water is just so amazing!
@@eugenelangmeyer2304 right there are three departments, deck, engineering, and porters. I would love to be on the deck crew, and be able to do a watch on the bridge, paint the ship, hatch cover clamps etc… just being on the water
Yes! Those old piers are remnants of the old Central Viaduct. They have been there since 1887! Streetcars used to travel the Central Viaduct crossing the Cuyahoga River.
Any word on if new ships will be built in the near future on the lakes? Most of the freighters are getting really old now, like the Anderson. Most are from the 50’s or 60’s, older than the crews that man them. Sad how far we have let our merchant marine fleet go down!
A delight filled video - watching the powerful Mark W. Barker being moved so carefully & smooth AND the sounds of the Barker mingling with the sound of the birds & water!!!☺️😍 Thank you!!!
Ahoy! Thank you for watching the Mark W. Barker make her way upstream to the Blast furnaces. The Mark W. Barker was Christened in September of 2022 and is the first Laker built in the USA since 1981! Mark Barker is 639' length and 78' beam and 45' depth. Mark Barker is also equipped with Twin General Motors EMD locomotive engines(SD70AC) producing 8000hp. Also a carrying capacity of 26000gr tons.
That just seems crazy seeing a huge ship like her maneuvering through there. I see they have a “Don’t give up the ship” flag flying on her. I’ve seen them on older ships being flown on them. Beautiful video of her coming through there. That captain definitely has perfected his/hers skills to sail her. 😊 Thank you 😊
Yes the Wheelsman is an "Old Pro" at it. As many times as American Courage travels through there, they make it look easy. Even in a gusty wind! Thanks for watching!
Fact: In 1979 the Fred R White Jr. was launched under the Oglebay-Norton Co. and in 2006 American Steamship Co.(Grand River Navigation?)acquired her with the name changed to American Courage. She is equipped with Twin General Motors EMD(SD70 locomotive) engines that feed a single screw. Each engine producing 3500HP. Also equipped with Bow and Stern thrusters specifically designed to navigate the Cuyahoga River!
Fact: the Mighty Tug "Minnesota" was built in 2023 and is a Stan Tug 1907 ICE model tug boat! It is equipped with Twin 1959CID V12 CAT C32's! Each engine can produce 1900HP @ 2300RPM. Torque produced by each engine is 5500 ft lb @ 1600RPM+/-. The C32 engine is also used in mining trucks and D11T dozer!
Ahoy! Thanks for watching the Wilfred Sykes "backing" up the Cuyahoga River with the help of tug Minnesota. This was filmed on the Pier at Scranton Peninsula.
Fact: Herbert C. Jackson is a 1959 Classic Laker, 690 feet length, in 1998, was the largest freighter to challenge the Cuyahoga River. Herbert C.Jackson has been with the Interlake Fleet (Pickands/Mather) since 1959! She was running "Shuttles" from C/N dock at Whiskey Island to Cleveland Cliffs blast furnace dump site when this was filmed. Long days and tedious work on the Cuyahoga!
Depends on conditions. After Winter, silt deposits around some bends and if they don't get stuck and the wind isn't strong, it takes about 2 hours from entry to dumpsite.
