All hail the king of the worms!! I discovered your channel yesterday and subscribed right away. I really like your style. Good information, beautiful scenery, quiet sense of humor and not a lot of bs. Very refreshing!
Hi Michael Just found your adventure sailing Vayo. Im a norwegian guy living in Sweden with my wife and 2 boys. Im 58 now and did allot of sailing in my 20ies. Im about 10 years we will sail to Greece and be there for some years. Our adventure😅 Worked in greece in the 80s. Know it pretty well. Started in Loutraki and thats a place i recomend visiting. Also see the monastary in the mountain looking over Loutraki and Korinth. Looking forward to follow you and Vayo. Best regards Bjoern 😊
+@j.t.s.3982 …if I understand your question I am speaking of the Aegean and it may be the one picture that is a generic picture. It’s the idea that counts here. Cheers
Great video! You’re so right on all points. I love sailing Greece too. I was in Poros last year in September. Headed to Corfu this August to sail the Ionian.
Beautiful! I found your channel through doing some research for a story I'm writing about sailing the Ionian sea. This is dreamily magical. Also, your storytelling is so entertaining! Thank you for sharing with us.
Hi Michael, thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and gorgeous images. I find myself questioning time and time again whether to go to Greece and appreciate your suggestion to sail outside of the peak months of July and August but where do you leave your boat in the middle of high season? Any recommendations for that? Fair Winds! Eelco
+@eelcostoffels Hello Eelco! This year as last I use Porto Heli Marina as a base and do sail in the high season but not the so much the islands , due to the Meltemi and heat. I stay more along the coast of the Penepolese. The heat is a challenge and I’m not at all sure about next season. Good sailing and thanks for your interest 🙏
+@jacooosthuizen1886 Hello Jaco! Good to meet you. I use predict wind which is by subscription and my main go to. Then I also peruse others just to check like Meteo Blue. The local Greek forecasts I hear are also very good and free but I haven’t used them.
+@MrCiupol Ahoy, she is an X-442 , built in 2002, they are very well built yachts and I bought her in 2016 and could not be happier. She sails beautifully.
+@iluvthassos1971 Hahaha… Porto Heli to Dodecanese with my 11 year old kiwi grandson Saxon and my sailing mate Javi from Mallorca. Then the coast of Turkey before a return to Mallorca for next winter. 🙏👍
I love your videos and gentle words of wisdom. We had a 36 ft little yacht on the Ionian for about 6 years and watching your videos brings back happy memories ( although some very scary storms at times!) . Looking forward to sharing your next sailing adventures. Thank you.
Marina fees can be insane eg 100 euros a night in Hvar Croatia. Do they come alongside in a little boat and offer food water and diesel like they do in Turkey??. That way you dont need Marina so often...
+@leepluke8556 Thanks Lee, of the Ionians only the west coast of Kefalonia and then on to the bay & town of Lepanto or today Nafpaktos, and on to the gulf of Corinth and the canal.
Thanks Michael, what a great adventure coming out of curiosity. Hoping to sail from Split to Corfu ,Paxos and Ithica this May and June. Look forward to your other videos. If your curiosity stirs you to visit Cape Town South Africa , we would be glad to share the adventures to be had at the foot of Africa. Lee
Yes you are correct about the canal itself, but the origins of Corinth, the overland route before the canal go back millenniums as it was an overland trading passage & Corinth a major trading center for the Ancient Greeks and Romans.
Hola Michael!
I also have enjoyed solo saving around Greece and the truth is, as you say” it needs to be shared Great videos thank you, looking forward to to your adventures Fair winds to you sailor
It had to be the meltemi I was a charter skipper there for a few years. I met the melted many times, for cruisers I always.s say start in the North of Greece, and sail south over the summer,
Agree totally. The Meltemi drove me nuts . Reaching to Mykonos with 47 knots on the instruments. 12 days straight with no respite even at night . I appreciate the Ionian much more now.
Hello Michael, Thanks for taking me on the journey. I'm really enjoying the vlog, so keep them coming, please.. I'm a sailor from Australia, I'm now retired, and it's always been a bucket list dream to sail the Mediterranean. How do you find solo sailing? I'm looking at purchasing a yacht in Greece, in May, we'll looking when I get there. How do you find solitary life on the sea. Do you meet alot of other solo sailors on your adventures, and how do you navigate the Schengen rules do you bounce around the EU? Kind regards. Fair winds and following Seas ⛵️
Hi Magzie… thanks for following… I don’t live aboard full time… solo sailing is beautiful but I have concluded that I enjoy sharing and company … I’m Spanish and my boat is registered and vat paid in Europe so no issues…. Great idea to buy in Greece… just a fantastic and quite easy place to sail. Just need to dodge the Meltemi winds but there are so many bays you can always find cover. Welcome aboard and good luck with your project… definitely do it 👍
