This looks very good! I just glass bedded my T1X into my MDT chassis to see if I could squeeze a little more accuracy out of it. I’m definitely interested in looking into having this done next.
Gary, does a full diameter bolt force the feeding ramp or magazine to be situated lower in the action? and wouldn't that cause the round to enter the chamber at a steeper angle?
so if it were the same "full diameter" as the Remington bolt head (about.950) that would very much be the case, but Pristine made the bolt just a little larger than the Remington bolt body (about .75) so there doesn't seem to be a really steep feeding angle from the mag, probably another reason for the six lug design because if it were only two there would be much less bearing surface than a Remington pattern action :)
@@garyeliseo1775 I've been shooting a Rem 700 in 270 for nearly 40 years. No problems with "unsupported" cases yet. The Tikka looks awesome. I've been looking to buy a 243.
90° seems to be difficult for folks nowadays to be able to work but it has been standard on 2 lug systems since the 98 Mauser at least. The advantages, which you didn't go into, are a smoother mainspring compression and more powerful primary extraction and locking cams. The Remington also encloses the bolt face into the barrel, which the Tikka does not, which makes your unsupported cartridge claim moot. I have both. Tikka are great as are Remingtons (at least the early and one being produced now-not the Freedom Group guns which were a hit or miss on quality). You obviously prefer the Tikka, which is fine, but trying to make a point by implying a problem with case head exposure really isn't valid--that same seating depth/bolt face has been used since the 721/722--how many problems has it caused?
I dont prefer Tikkas over the Remington pattern, built many rifles on both, own and shoot both in competition, just showing the differences, neither are perfect, while the Remington bolt does create a labyrinth seal at the breech it will not prevent a case head blowout, only contain it, as I stated this would only be of interest to those who shoot cases with relatively thin wall bases like the BR's
Have Tikka, Borden, Impact. The Rem700 pattern is great in the hands of masters like Borden, but for factory low cost actions, nothing beats Tikka. This is why I compete with Borden and Impact while my hunting rifles are all Tikka (plus a Barret Fieldcraft). Why so many hunters here in Sweden keep spending custom gun money on Blaser and Sauer is beyond me.
My issue is with the mag itself on my 17hmr the nose of the bullet doesn't angle up so jams on front face instead of sliding up into barrel, do you have a video on mag spring adjustments?
Will the new style mag well and new style bolt work in place of the old style mag well and bolt. I have a older t1x with wire ejector and would like to upgrade to the new ejector and bolt in that rifle.
I have had the exact same journey with my T1X but I only have ejection issues with fired brass. The brass seems to just fall back onto the next round and causes a malfunction. Cycling loaded ammunition without firing gives me no issues. I'm wondering if you have any insight on this?
Do you know if Tikka has redesigned the firing pin? I've now broken two of mine and looking at a few forums see that it is a somewhat common issue. If they've fixed the firing pin issue as well as the fedding/ejecting issues I'd be tempted to just pick up a new rifle.
Thanks for your videos, I almost always learn something, but my preference would be one continuous video. It's easier to follow, and please, don't do #shorts. They are awful.
Thanks for the video. Would you or anyone know the model number for the updated exactor model? I was looking to buy a tikka 1x but afraid of buying the old kind. Or should I be good to go at this point in time?
Tikka make excellent rifles but this seems like a strange way of going about things. Like reinventing the wheel almost. My tikka t1x groups 30mm at 50mm and is a fantastic rifle nonetheless
I got the new style on mine, and got some issues with poor ejection, maybe one in 50 wont eject... any idea on how to fix that? the place where i bought it tried filing on the little tab that hold the cartridge on the bolt so it hold it more firm, and that made it a bit better, but it still happens sometimes. Anoying when shooting fast on moving targets, having to shake out the cartridge before u can fire again...
Same here. I recently bought the new style and have the same annoying problem with failure to eject about 2 or 3 times per box of ammo. Did you ever find a fix for this problem with the new style?
Hey mate. I’ve got the old style in mine. I don’t have feeding issues but have ejection issues. Sometimes it won’t kick the empty out and I noticed it let’s go from the ejection hook pretty early aswell as the rim of the case doesn’t slot right in snug with the hook. Got any advice?
yeah, that's been the issue with the wire ejectors, if you tune it for best feeding, you get poor ejection, and as you bend it for better ejection, it will start interfering with feeding, it's kinda a balancing act, I will accept weak (but reliable) ejection to get better feeding, I did a video on it, (note when bending the wire, bend it at the 1st bend, at the rear, not out in the middle someplace)
@@garyeliseo1775 nah I tuned it for the ejection! It feeds perfectly but I did your little bend trick at the rear and get it a 1/4” gap for the stronger ejection but it still won’t kick out the case every 5-10 rounds. Any advice?
that's interesting, they have not been available here in the states for close to a year, I wondered if they were re designing something, do you have pics you can share?
