This is the official channel for Page & Podium Press.
Page & Podium is a highly collaborative, trauma-informed book publishing and ghostwriter service, ready to help you bring your story to life! We believe books can change the world, and we love talking with aspiring authors who feel the same way.
Since most of our clients are first-time authors, looking to level-level up their credibility, we can easily anticipate your needs-and be sure you’re supported from idea to launch and beyond. By the end of our work together, you’ll have the confidence and clarity you need to grow your platform!
I can feel like a bummer for sure. Fiction sells better with a platform, too, though--since most of us want our books to sell well, it doesn't hurt to build a community no matter what type of book you're writing!
Thanks, some great tips for readers. I don't have a full document yet, but these questions can help our writing group and the occasional other readers who read short sections of my writing (such as for competitions).
Thank you for your video. This is the situation I am in. I keep procrastinating. If someone keeps telling me I have to write it a different way, I get confused and unsecure. I then stop writing because I am scared to write it the wrong way or write it in an imperfect way. I already published one book, but the publisher told me to hurry, and hurrying is not my thing. I finished it with only about 32 pages, which was way too small. Paperback and my memoire is only from the age of about two years until 13. Now I am trying to write my expanded version and am already at age 16. There is just so much that went on in my life that I sometimes can hardly remember the dates and times. I am 64 going on 65 this year and do wish to finish my book. If I only had a little help. I have a person who is also an Author, but she charges me a monthly fee if I take her advice, plus she confuses me at times, and that is why I stopped writing. Yes, I need a community to help me keep writing.
Thank you for the information on completing a reverse outline. This reminds me of my time as an Electrical Engineer red-lining electrical drawings for the field. I know I have sections that are too large for a good flow.
As an aspiring writer, I find great value in the wisdom of writing professionals like Amanda Nell Edgar. Your practical insights are truly enlightening. The analogy comparing crash dieting to attempting to master writing overnight resonates deeply. It's a powerful reminder that developing one's craft takes time and consistent effort. Your resources have been immensely helpful in my journey. I'm absorbing so much knowledge and look forward to potentially utilizing Page & Podium's services as I continue to grow as a writer.
@@PageandPodiumPress I'm structuring my novel as a series of interconnected stories. The first story has a memoir method outline. The second story has a 3 Act outline. The third story has a 3 Act outline. The fourth story has 3 Act outline. The fifth story fits nicely into the 12-step Hero's Journey outline! The sixth story fits into the 3 Act outline with a saggy center. And in the final chapter the villain is finally captured. Thank you again for your videos!! So helpful.
Thank you for the video. I'm writing full-time. I expected to publish a book every two months. Of course, that goal wasn't realistic. I am learning. I am changing the outline of my final chapters for the third time. But I feel that each step is progress. Watching your videos is like a breath of fresh air.
@karenroberts4556 Until we get into it, it's impossible to know what we don't know! I'm so glad you're being flexible with (and hopefully kind to!) yourself through the process. Our group program has a whole lesson on being gentle and flexible when the roadmap has to change--it's the most normal thing there is in writing, people just don't talk about it. :) Glad the videos are helpful!
Honestly, this is the best information I have seen or read that succinctly typifies what a memoir is. Until your video I had no idea how to portray my antagonist without transferring my intense rage onto the page and exposing their manipulative behaviors. I knew I was tackling my memoir in the wrong way but couldn't see the forest for the trees. I now get it - let the reader decide through the telling and showing of my experiences and emotions, just as my therapist does!
Thanks for the question, @HowardMarch-cp1ji ! We've worked with many men on their memoirs. Our group coaching program is only for women, but we also offer one-on-one coaching/editing (the program is called Editor in Your Pocket) and ghostwriting for men who need support. And of course we are always happy to cheer men on regardless of whether you choose to work with us--everyone deserves to tell their story. :)
Excellent question, @christinatillotson8270 ! This depends on the author's goals, audience, etc. I typically suggest the first BISAC code come from the "Biography/Autobiography" heading, but it's really a matter of thinking about who is looking for your book and where they will go to find it.
Thank you for the information. How can I get a book off the market which I have legal rights as an author, but Page Publishing published it and will not take it off market.
I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! I can't give legal advice, but I would take your contract to a literary lawyer. Unfortunately, many book contracts do not give the author legal authority to pull the manuscript, particularly traditional presses whose business model is based on continuing sales. A lawyer will be able to advice you on the best course of action, but I don't think you'll get far without legal representation. You may also be able to offer the publisher a buyout for your book, but I would not do that without a lawyer either. Good luck!
So grateful I found you, Amanda -- via Reedsy. Disappointed I missed the deadline for the course. Finding your videos most helpful and inspiring to continue writing. What writing software do you recommend? I'm looking at Scrivener, or is there another alternative?
We’re so happy you’re finding our videos helpful! We will be reopening the group program in May, with the next cohort starting in June. Go ahead and apply, and you’ll be first in line! P&P uses Scrivener during development and drafting, and we love it! There’s definitely a point where switching to Word makes things easier, since Scrivener files are difficult to share with others, but early stages, Scriv is our favorite!
Thanks, Amanda! So glad you're finding them helpful. If there are any topics you'd like us to cover, please let us know, and we'll add them to the queue!
