Hey everyone, TinyLeaf here! And welcome to my channel!
Here you'll find a bunch of videos where I talk about the storytelling techniques of video games and other forms of media that catch my interest. Right now, that just so happens to be Danganronpa! But I love trying out new things, so don't be too surprised if you me chatting about another franchise at any given point.
I try to upload every month or so, but I'm a recent college graduate and this channel is just something I run on the side to practice my skills. As a result, I may be MIA for a few weeks at a time. But I hope you like what you see and stick around!

P.S. My channel is targeted towards a 16+ audience and I frequently talk about serious topics. Discussion is encouraged, but harassment isn't.
with how much death traps she made, I bet Junko would make a stellar theme park. it would be called "Junko World" and all of the attractions and shops would have something relating to Junko or Monokuma.
my only problem with turn based is that it's trying to be like resident evil. I PERSONALLY woulda went for splitting up the gameplay. in komaru levels it's fully survival, not much combat or dealing with enemies and more getting around and solving puzzles without getting caught. and the toko/sho levels would be proper hack n slashes. like dmc or bayonetta. and the levels would accomodate having this playstyle
ok sorry for the comment on this old video but it's funny you say this about Kokichi because I think what I like about Byakuya and Nagito is I feel like they DO face more important consequences than just physical assaults, namely consequences *in the narrative.* the game loves them as characters, absolutely, but KNOWS they are full of shit. the entirety of 1-4 is basically a huge fuck you to Byakuya. and the most genius realization of 2-5, the final cherry on top of the best trial DR's ever done, is the fact that if Nagito's "brilliant" plan had gone as planned... he would have fucked over the entire world. (also Nagito is CONSTANTLY like, physically and verbally attacked along the lines of Kokichi, come on.) these guys were wrong, and the protagonist and player know it by the end. Kokichi is kind of the opposite. yeah Maki will go to strangle him and everyone is annoyed as shit by him. but then at the end you're supposed to see his final plan as incredibly brilliant (even though it's quite stupid) and him as like, a misunderstood good guy all along. I find this deeply annoying and inaccurate, and much more favorable treatment by the narrative than Byakuya/Nagito ended up getting in the end. this is why I can't stand Kokichi, like to the point where I think the double-punch of him and the terribleness of Tsumugi almost ruins V3, while Byakuya and Nagito are some of my favorite characters in the entire series.
Hah. Now I know why we have the opposite opinion of the game. You hated all I liked. And loved all I detested 😂 I am crying with mirth at your disgust, like I did at all the fandom when I played the game as it came out. Yewch, videos like this are why I avoid my favourite media's fandoms like the plague 😂
I still hate that ppl say Shuichi being the protagonist was bad It’s the one reason I’m happy Kaede died, Shuichi is miles better than makoto or hajime were and he’s super good as a protagonist, a lot more entertaining and just a great protagonist overall
I have a lot of thoughts about v3 and the characters, not a lot good but I remember when I first played it fresh off of ultra despair girls I PRAYED the monokubs would be the warriors of hope, their colors matched and I was so upset when they weren't. It makes me wish for a v3 where it was a 'proper' continuation. The warriors grew up, they continue the game, they where the masterminds.
I thought that the despair disease flipped your personality. so the fact that she was the ultimate nurse flipped it to make her the ultimate killer or something like this. I didn't have a problem with it being disease fueled
What I really hate about V3 is that in 3 of the 6 trials (2, 3 and 4) you only find the murder's motive AFTER the trial. And considering that in trial 1, its the one where the game lies to you about what your own character has been doing, (and you later learn that the trial itself is a lie since someone else did it), it just ends up meaning that for the first 4 cases they just don't feel satisfying to solve.
That article was flat out wrong- reaching at straws to say Ganon is the only POC in character selection of SSBU (if you don't count having dark skinned alternatives for white skinned characters that's on you) not to mention tying something like being looked at like you can't understand language cause of your skin tone is ridiculous to put on to super smash brothers lol. It tries to say that early enemy types (ruffians) in Fire emblem are pinned up as weaker because of there lack of education, financial status and wildly enough skin color instead of taking the fundamental game design as is- they-re obviously just thug types meant to be fodder for the party early on and I cannot count the amount I've slaughtered who are white. Trying to point out dark evil counter parts (ryu /pit/ link were the only ones he cited BOTH PITS BEING THE SAME EXACT SKIN TONE IN THERE ORIGINAL GAME BTW NOT SMASH) are somehow inherently meant to make the good guys more good cause there skin tones lighter? Evil counter parts are usually always fan favorites too that article is a joke and this video kind of is too. Only showing a paragraph of an article with a damning title to support your narrative only to have it be lies, drivel and filled with personal opinion really sticks a knife into the whole video rather than the segment the citation was intended for.
Before getting into Danganronpa 2, I had an idea that Nagito was the community fave. I don't follow anything community or content-related (hell, I've only started watching stuff because I just finished V3 yesterday, so spoilers begone now. your stuff is awesome, btw), so I just had a vague premise. And I can confirm that after booting up the game, he did not click, I didn't get his flair. Literally, the second he showed up as "The Ultimate Lucky Student", I was in denial like "You arE NOT HIM! SIR, You are NOT Makoto Naegi!" Ultimately rejecting his role & relevance, & even worse after his freakout in Trial 1; passionately referring to him as "bitch boy" (derogative) with how stupid dodgy & untrusting he comes across in the chapters ahead. And then Chapter 5 happened. And that left me to reevaluate his purpose & character. Why's he go through with this, what was his angle, was there any ulterior motive? And eventually through the rest of the game, found out the twist, Jabberwock is fabricated, remnants of despair, all that shit. And then I watched through the anime, specifically the "2.5 Nagito episode". And to be fair, I don't recall much of my experience with so (there were looong monthly gaps between each mainline when I played), but it was then when he started clicking for me. Why he's the character that he is, the contrast between both protags of the first two games, the understanding of what happens when you delegate hope as your only belief & motive. Pretty much how Nagito, to me at least, encompasses an idea of toxic positivity & sacrifice of your self. I think you're absolutely valid in thinking this way, where some characters are more intriguing in comparison, Nagito needs less spotlight in merch, & Hajime x Nagito hang with a massive asterisk, but with what Nagito sets out to do, how he subverts the first game's protag & morals, as well as having a purdy distinct personality & design, I absolutely see his appeal & still got some pleasure & satisfaction experiencing his story.
I thought the monocubs were intentionally made hatable, as a meta commentary on over-merchandising of game franchises by adding random easily markatable characters which do nothing but to make good plushies
I honestly wonder if the Monokubs were _supposed_ to be annoying, as it's like a "woaahh it's the 53rd season and now there's all these wacky side characters!" like what often ends up happening to shows?? Either way I don't think having such annoying characters is a good thing LUL but still
I wouldn't say there was any sexualization in Kirumi's execution. When buzzsaws cut at a person while they're climbing upwards, it's a miracle for any clothes to remain intact at all. On top of that, the "fan service" isn't very noticeable. Even more so when compared to Kiyo's (By this I mean him and his sister in their spirit forms). Now if a male character went through the execution, he'd at the least be shirtless, with his pants looking like a loincloth.
Bro, these oversimplification of character traits rubs me the wrong way We gonna call a literer now an evil unredeemable criminal It just feel so disingenuous it makes it hard to watch
16:45.... about that.... you seee while for the most part they're seperate stories.. there's a reason that when you boot up the game it says it's intended for people who played undertale ✌︎☠︎👎︎ ✋︎❄︎🕯︎💧︎ ✌︎☹︎☹︎ 👌︎☜︎👍︎✌︎🕆︎💧︎☜︎ ⚐︎☞︎ ❄︎☟︎✋︎💧︎ 🏱︎☜︎✋︎👍︎☜︎ ⚐︎☞︎ 💧︎☟︎✋︎❄︎ 🕈︎☟︎⚐︎ 💧︎🏱︎☜︎✌︎😐︎💧︎ ✋︎☠︎ ❄︎☟︎☜︎ 👎︎🕆︎💣︎👌︎☜︎💧︎❄︎ ☞︎⚐︎☠︎❄︎ ☜︎✞︎☜︎☼︎ but then again you probably knew that but didn't wanna go on a gaster rant which would double the length of the segment-
I will DIE on the hill that Kaede and Suichi should have switched places. Every class trisl I felt kinda uninterested in the outcome because I thought "well duh, we're the Ultimate Detective, it's pretty much already guaranteed the mystery will be solved anyways." Kinda sucked that the possibility of losing or not solving the mystery wasn't there. Kaede felt like such a breath of fresh air after Makoto and Hajime, it's really a shame because I would have loved that twist even more.
Personally the way I’d rewrite the ending is 1. Danganronpa 1, 2, and 3 did really happen. Decades later, a studio makes a dramatic retelling of those events. And then starting with Danganronpa 4, it’s fully original stories. 2. The character’s plotlines aren’t prewritten. Sure some elements should still be manipulated, but everything the characters did was more or less their own choice.
I feel like the monokubs are an interesting *concept* and I like their use in chapter 6’s trial. But they never reach their full potential. Probably the biggest example of this is Monodam. In chapter 3 he had this whole plot of taking over monokuma’s position. This could have been really interesting if it wasn’t thrown away as soon as the investigation started.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I think my biggest problem with the ending is not even how it’s written, or the message they’re trying to send. It’s just a severe sense of authors’ distain for the audience. In someways, it feels like being scolded for finding the story or the series interesting. It’s sort of like if you were taking a class on your favorite subject with your favorite teacher, and on the very last day of class, not only does your teacher scold you for wasting their time and yours by taking this class, but then the author of your favorite book kicks down the door to tell you that you’re an idiot for buying their book. Oh, and you had to pay for this class too.
the thought only just now occurred to me watching this video but given the sheer litany of Josuke Higashikata references in the first game with Mondo, anyone else think that the names Monotaro and Monosuke might also be nods to that series?
