Welcome to Karolyn's Kakes! I've been making KAKES since 2002. On this channel, I share what I've learned along the way to help you on your cake decorating journey!
KAROLYN!!! You have done it again!!!!!! You have just saved me and taught me another perfect lesson!!! I Love ❤️❤️❤️❤️ these tips you teach us!!! Thank you!!! Big hugs 💖💗💗💗
Hello! Thank you so much, Karolyn, for this detailed explanation. Would you ever consider doing a comparison of doing shading with petal dust vs an airbrush machine? I’ve been thinking of taking the plunge and purchasing an airbrush machine but wondered if it would even be possible to achieve some of the same shading and designs with petal dust with more effort obviously?
Petal dusts are best used for smaller decorations. If you have to do shade large areas, airbrushes are best because they are faster. Dusts are always an option, but it would just take longer to achieve!
If you don't know about Karolyn's curlies, do you even Karolyn Kake? Also, just taking the time to dust color and put in the little cracks in the cookies is what makes your cakes next level. Also also, I LOVE the Oscar the grouch cake!!!! that is sooo adorable, that is the one I would have wanted as a child lol
"Do you even Karolyn Kake" 😂😂😂😂 Thank you!! The small details are what elevate your cake and make them unique. I also love that Oscar cake, I wish someone would order that again, it was so much fun to make!!
My cakes tend to be more moist when the cake tester or skewer comes out with a little bit of crumbs on them. The cake will bake more during the 10-15 minute cool down. This saves me from having to use or make a lot of simple syrup.
Thank you very much.. I am at beginner's level in cake decorating.. I did the TeddyBear you did with the Rice Crispy and my teacher was surprised and excited over it. I used it as my cake topper. My cake was an eggless 8x6 inches and the topper was 7 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide. I don't know how to share it yet in the message. However, many thanks for your help.. I saw you doing a topper with rice crispy and marshmallow video. . very nice. Tks again.
lol.. You definitely make me smile almost every video. It's usually something I can relate to because we are the same age, but other times it's just because you have a positivity to you that is infectious.
So I'm using your link to buy the wooden dowels. What length do you usually use? I just need for a 3 tier cake I'm thinking the 18 inch long would be long enough.
18" should be perfect. I usually buy the 36 - 48" lengths, I can dowel a few cakes by cutting one long one up. This way, I have dowels that are long enough in case I make really tall ones!
I love banana everything. I’m curious about extracts vs emulsions. I know in your red velvet cake you use an emulsion. Is there a reason why you use extracts in other cake vs an emulsion?
To be honest, it's because I've only ever seen a red velvet emulsion, not an extract! Emulsions are more potent, so you can always replace an extract with an emulsion if you prefer 😊
Yum. Love banana and you’re right can’t find banana cake mix. Will make this. Thanks. Can you do a video of marshmallow frosting please or something like that?
Hello thank you for sharing your time A why you use water in chocolate dripping Is this only for this brand chocolate ? How about wilton and then brand Normally says water is Enemy for chocolate and I’m surprise Voice time I’ve seen in dripping you use And how I can make pink purple hair n light I have mermaid theme cake and drip is pink purple not actual purple I don’t know how I explain but I am sure you know what I mean 😊 Last question what I do with left over drip chocolate keep out side or in fridge Water one and cream one too Waiting for your reply desperately
You can only use water with candy melts. Candy melts aren't chocolate. If you're using real chocolate, you must use heavy cream! With water ganache, I find that I have to toss any excess as it's difficult for me to reuse as I can't ever get it back to the correct consistency 😢
1I’ve watch your fun video several times but must have missed something I thought you were going to use a boxed spice cake mix when did you add the cake mix?
Hi Karolyn, i just wanted to let you know you are my favourite cake RU-vidr. You are detailed, with no fluff or staged performance, just you in your kitchen doing your thing and educating us, honestly. :) It's refreshing, and I thank you.
Thank you so much! Sometimes I second guess myself because I know others have big beautiful kitchens and super professional videos. But I gotta work with what I got. So it's comforting to know that you like it!
Yes you can! I add between 1/2 - 1 cup of cocoa depending on how strong you want it to be. I add the cocoa to the butter / shortening , mix together, adding a few Tbsp water if needed to get it to incorporate. Then add the powdered sugar and any extra liquid!
The 9” pan would be wide, like you mentioned, but as Karolyn says … “It’s cake! Have fun!” Also keep in mind you’d need more batter and use different measurements than she did in this video.
Assuming you're baking in a 2" high pan and only making 1 layer: 1/4 - 1 batch 1/2 - 2 batches For full sheet cakes, I always put two half sheet cakes together, so I would need 4 batches for a full sheet. Hope that helps!
