With the greatest of respect to both of you a lot of the time 2024 perspective is like hindsight - not particularly relevant. I saw the band numerous times in 1980 and ( to a 17 year olds ears ) they were amazing. Nobody went expecting musical perfection. KOTNTW was not a great opener, DRC was but on the Euro dates simply wandering out ( no lifts ) was kinda lame . Honestly it was still Super KISS to us fanatics and no one walked away disappointed.
An absolute treasure once I got my hand on this!!!...."Egos at Stake" was a frequent play for years, loved the Ace, Eric Carr lineup, the beefed up live versions of Unmasked material.....but this audio and glimpse into Kiss mania via The Inner Sanctum TV special was incredible!!!......Would LOVE LOVE LOVE some outtakes. (beyond the Nov 22 Sydney show in KISSology)...
Love the episode, love everything about Australia 1980. I remember watching the Trade Centre interview on Countdown live. 79/80 KISSTERIA = great memories. Definately turned me into a KISSfan for life
I went to both nights, drums sounded much better live, they were booming. I was so disappointed that Gene only sang four songs. I remember when they lifted the kiss sign, one of the biggest cheers of the night. I thought the first night was better. Both great nights though
That's one of the great things about these shows. Everyone sees/hears something different via the lens, and those who were actually there saw/heard something different individually too! Thanks for your comments and watching!
Eric Carr was kept small by Paul and Gene due to the Ace and Peter trauma. So it's not his fault, he just ended angry and unmotivated. Still I like the drumming on the HITS Tour.
Great episode guys!...gotta agree with Andrew on Eric's drum sound, very 'boxy' sounding drums like they are tuned too high or something, and thanks for the shout out guys! I happen to love the fast tempo in I was Made'
No one ear talks about the reason why Kissteria was dead in Austin by Feb 81 but one reason might be because Kiss would change their look way to fast. From 75-80 it worked but they made the wrong choice with the Elder and if they stayed with the 79-80 look then their popularity might have came back and stayed longer. Kiss never toured the US for Unmasked so realign a rock album in 1981 and keeping the same look and tour might have worked better than releasing the Elder.
@@contentm3893 ace said the next record would be heavier , that never happened and they took a very different direction. Village people also did the different look at the same time , both on Casablanca at that time . The look and music was the death of the big fan base . Brashes record store by the end of 1982 was giving the Elder away for 50 cents at the Doncaster store
Eric was sick with nerves in Melbourne November 15th Biggest show to date of 40- 45 thousand that night . Was my first time seeing them after 3 year build up as a fan . Amazing hot night and fantastic live show
He didnt show it, i was amazed at his playing and singing. Do you remember Kiss flying in by chopper whilst we were outside and then doing soundcheck? Also the rubbish( mainly bottles and big m cartons) fight as the audience became impatient, support band "the eyes" ?
I always noticed the versions of Is That You and Shandi on Kissology were definitely overdubbed in the studio. I always attributed to the version we got was used for the inner sanctum because I am sure before it aired on TV they made some adjustments. The lip sync always seems off and vocals sound too perfect. But the bootleg version of the show I have I do not get that effect from it. There’s a few other songs that I get that same effect with maybe it’s just me, but I might have a version without the overdubs, or there was even more magic done with Kissology that it’s more obvious. Geez we are Kiss geeks 😂.
A coupla points Szene 76 was the German show along with Abendschau which did not circulate for a while. Still they were TV shows per se As for first actual concert footage used for commercial promo purposes, that would have to be the Cobo video used for the Alive! Aucoin video promo
This discussion brings me back to the whole era.I remember waiting online at a video store for MSG I was 15. first show sold out in five minutes. Second show in like 10, then some guy there said he knew that they were going to add more. no one believed him and sure enough they did once they announced the last show on July 28th my bracelet number got called first and I was able to get floor seats, what time I remember, leaving the show thinking this is what it might’ve been like to see them in the 70s. I felt the flames when they went off. This whole discussion brought me back to this whole time. I remember freaking out when I saw them on the Grammys and I said oh my God they’re back. Thank you again for these memories.
ill always feel that the reunion tour wouldve finally been a great excuse to let us fans hear mr speed live finally by the original band and it wouldve been sweet to have the return of she parasite and nothin to lose on the reunion tour,...but its just another moment of leaving cash on the table
I think Julian was on the KISS Army email list that Hunter Goatley hosted on the Western Kentucky University email server. That's where I got the majority of my up to date KISS news. I was lucky enough to go to both the Weenie Roast show and Tiger Stadium, so I posted some pretty detailed reviews of the shows a day or two after on that list. I was working at a radio station at the time, so I was able to dial in our satellite to listen to the press conference live from the Intrepid. I got through on the phone to Ticketmaster to get my Tiger Stadium tickets. I ended up getting 14th row of floor section D, and I'm guessing that was not a front section, because I don't remember being 14 rows from the stage, but I can't find a seating chart for Tiger Stadium concerts to see where exactly it was. I think it was the second section back right of center. I didn't know who was going to go with me, but I ended up meeting up with someone from New Zealand that I connected with on the KISS Army mailing list when I posted about having an extra ticket.
Just got my Ace Frehley 10,000 volts on black vinyl today(July 10th) from Amazon Uk after pre-ordering it Dec 2023 & it's so badly warped I've had to send it back. Just been told I can expect it in JANUARY!!!! I know you guys can't do anything about it but I had to rant to somebody as my wife just wouldn't get it!! 😂
My first thought when I heard of this topic was Freak, I love the lyrics. It speaks about personal freedom. I was doing what you want and you don’t care what anybody thinks which is the KISS ethos. Great episode as always! Happy 4th to everybody around the world. We are one.
Ace made a great Ace album and mr trixter I’m sure did a lot to help Ace make it this good but isn’t that the producers job? Why all this hate? If you like it cool if not just listen to monster or sonic boom
Nothing? We got the 2000 page COTN 5 book box set last week, the Creatures of the Night Time World Picture disc and a slew of Kiss live cd’s from Japan in the past 2 weeks.😄
