Yes but what about rusting on the underside of the roof sheets? By the look of it and the screws, I guess there is considerable rusting on the underside of the iron especially near the edges. If you have the time, lift the sheets check treat any rust and paint or poly seal. I doubt if it will last 20 years if rust continues on the underside especially if in a wet and windy climate. I know because some of the worst rust I have found on my roof is on the underside of the decramastic iron tiles at the edges and also in between the laps. In some cases the tar and chip coating is still intact even though the iron underneath has rusted away. So a waste of time not to remove the rust with machine wire brush, treat with a rust treatment product (usually phosphoric acid based) to give a paintable surface and then thoroughly seal all around the hole before re fixing the iron and then attend to exterior surface. Also I believe all rust has to be completely removed and/or treated before applying the flex and sealant etc. Certainly it takes time but much better to take the time to do it thoroughly to prolong the life of the roof where it is most vulnerable.
That's why I'm watching videos...my roof keeps leaking...I spend 5 to 10 thousand dollars having a "professional" do my entire roof that is supposed to last for 10 years but never does so I'm watching videos to do it myself hopefully 😬🤣
@@sarahnichols4253 I did my roof by learning from this man, you don't need the $800 dollar component. Just be very careful using the torch down GAF TriPly modified Bitumen. If you rip off the old roof make sure you don't leave any holes or seams between wood where the flame can enter or you will burn down your house. Remove old roof cover with self stick base sheet and then with modified bitumen making sure you don't over heat or under heat the roll. I watch for an even orange flame going across both side then I roll and repeat. Takes time to learn and you'll do fine.
I wouldn’t use silicone to patch a roof unless it was properly repaired and only if it was nearing the end of its life to get another +10 years out of it.
NOTE: Nothing sticks to 100% silicone, not even more silicone. It MUST be physically and chemically removed before anything else is applied. It may be OK if silicone hybrids are used and pure silicone has never been used.
so to do this on my 210 ft horizontal seam would take weeks and cost tens of thousands in labor to pay someone. Seems like it would be better to try and seal the underside interface between the two levels of roof instead of on top.
Bad sky light installation! Roof is only as good as the guys that put it on. If there any wet insulation around that sky light your fix is temporary at best.

this video should have no credibility, I have installed many epdm, tpo, torch on and tar and gravel roofing systems. All have there pros and cons.... showing bad repairs is not a good reason to diss a epdm roof.
I bought the turbo poly seal but, it says it won't stick to tar or silicone. My problem is I been working for 3 days trying to remove all the stuff from the roof and no way I can remove everything. There is wat too much and it is too hard and my tin is aluminum and it is so thin that the grinder and metal bristle brush is making the metal very thin. This is way to much for me to remove and rain is coming. What can I do to make the turbo poly seal stick? HELP
The problem is the person didn’t clean the curb good enough, or didn’t roll the form flashing good enough. I come across you silicone guys all the time. Usually just like you have done it with it all over the place. Makes it a pain in the ass for the guy who knows what he is doing.
My biggest problem is that this video should be marked as an ad. Considering this is just another channel the "flat roof doctor" uses to advertise the product he manufacturers but pretends to be a non-biased contractor. Im all fine with you selling your snake oil if youre being honest.
Thank you for the video But the product is quite expensive The silicone based products are nice to work with as they are liquidy compared to the rubberized patch cement, which is very thick and hard to spread without making a mess. What will be the drying time for that work? I’m curious how long it takes for that silicone product to dry

A great primer is mixing polyurethane sealer with lacquer thinner. Then use polyurethane over that. If you are doing a large area, mix some paint thinner with polyurethane sealer to make a paint and roll it on. Polyurethane works better than tar that cracks as the oil evaporates, better than elastomeric that doesn’t stick well or hold up when you walk over it, better than silicone that cures so fast it might not stick. I use the polyurethane for sealing windows and doors around vents but use self leveling polyurethane for concrete for the flat areas of the roof. Be sure and get exterior polyurethane that resists UV light.
I am trying to repair my flat roof. I have applied the adhesive to the roof. When I lay felt onto the adhesive do I have to peel off the thin plastic sheet from the felt first? Absolute beginner here😮😮.
