Good review! Instead of giving a BS description of the sound like most other reviewers (where they describe sound differences which are purely imagined in their heads), you actually give useful and practical information without pretending to hear massive differences between various models!
@@retromograph3893 thanks a lot for the kind words. Yeah man I am pretty much against that kind of imagination 😂😂 if I hear something I say it..if I THINK I hear something but not sure I also say it that way. I prefer to be 💯 honest and not come up with stuff just to pretend I have super hearing that others don't have 😁👍
@@gabrieltechreviews8185 Nice! I'm a professional mastering engineer and it always cracks me up how hifi guys talk about sound, because it's all just total nonsense..... i always wonder if it's only self deception and confirmation bias, or if they're consciously making stuff up in order to sound autorotative and justify themselves! 😂
@@retromograph3893 i monkey could become a professional mastering engineer if it wanted to and makes no difference to if you are wrong or right which you are clearly wrong. all av receivers have a different sound this is just an obvious fact that only a very deaf or ignorant person would not notice.
@@huyly5339 I owned a few of svs which I thought I mentioned in the video too among other brands. They were a great deal back when they started but they are not now. There are much better options these days. I don't have anything against brands but if one can get better performance for the same or less money from other brands, why would I recommend svs? If you like svs that is fine, we all have the option to choose. Thanks
@gabrieltechreviews8185 bro, it's not like I am a big fan of SVS, it's just that the Stark Sound is so much cheaper, so I just wonder if you had compared the 2 brands, I actually opened to any brands that's considered best bang for the buck, but I really like your response and appreciated your knowledge 👍.
@@huyly5339 well the most expensive svs is no slouch but the problem is at those prices there are better options like psa, ryrhmik, JTR etc. I used to runs big JTRs before but now I prefer my quad 15" Starkes and let my Tactile devices deliver the vibrations which means less SPL, less hearing loss and happier wife upstairs 😁👍
@gabrieltechreviews8185 when I looked at the Stark Sound warranty, it's only a 2 years while others like Monolith, RSL, and SVS offer 5 full years which make me pause a little bit 😀
@@arielstereo5484 I only tested the rZ50 and 4800h but based on how much mature and stable the Denon 3800 has been over my time owning the rZ50, I would go with the 4800h Although personally I rather get the 3800 and buy an amp if you just wanted extra power. Thanks!
What's your opinion of Starke SW10? I only have a small room, but I want a sealed subwoofer that is cheap and can deliver quite deep bass while sounding good for music and movies
@@weakpig I have not tried the sw10 unfortunately although I have considered one for my small office. At the current $50 price difference vs the sw15 though, I would make space for the 15 instead lol Not sure if you can make the 15 work but the price difference is worth it at least as I for sure know how it performs. Then again, I have tried the sw15 and sw15p and both have been great so I would expect the sw10 to be as well. But as I have never tried it, I cannot give it a 100% seal of approval. 😊
@@jamesdelling5902 thank so much. I'm using this a.co/d/6EJflOE I am getting ready a video showing all the changes to the room and the sofa with more powerful TR parts. :) Thanks for watching!
@@gabrieltechreviews8185 Well with the help of one of my buds who has a audio shop around the corner he's going to give me a bunch of stuff to try out, speakers, subs, etc. should be fun! I have a pretty nice stereo set up, Convergent Audio Tech, preamp, Acoustat electrostatics, PlanerP3 tt. but that's all staying separate. Thanks for your review. I almost sprung for the RZ50 999.00 right now, but it seems like there are some issues so I passed and went with the Denon.
A few days ago, I rode my bike for 40 miles, but my classic model battery died after 30 miles. I'm considering upgrading due to battery life concerns. Is this new model better than the Classic 6 for exercise?
@@Phis213 well I haven't done any riding that long not at least for my workouts (hiking, treadmill, boxing, hockey) my ultra is doing better than the classic 6. Maybe another viewer can provide feedback more similar to your activity. Thanks!
this is a great review, Gabriel. I actually learned a few things while watching it. My use case is that we watch movies at -10Db reference but at night we watch tv series and such at -35db. My old Klipsch R12SW cannot be heard at all at that level. Do you think SW15P would good for me and can be heard at such a low volume?
@@boriskey7841 hello .somehow I never got this notification, sorry. If you want to "feel" a sub at low levels you can either place it vnf (very near field) or get a transducer like buttkickers, Dayton BST - 300ex or diy ones. Thanks for the kind words
You are right on with all of it. I traded in my watch 5 pro for all the same reasons you said about it. It was cool but it was laggy that digital bezel was okay I had no interest in a physical bezel and thought I'd give this one a shot.. It is absolutely perfect.. I see other reviewers saying you have to drag your finger around and you don't. You can just use it with the tip of your thumb naturally just like you would have clicked wheel and it's that accurate and that smooth and the haptic feedback is perfect. I found myself using my titanium silver Galaxy watch ultra way more than I used my watch5 pro.. I even started using it as a payment system with Samsung pay. I absolutely love this thing and like you said until you see it with your eyes.... Samsung's photos don't do it justice. It's the best looking smartwatch out there of any brand. In my opinion the titanium gray which most people seem to have gotten was too sporty looking.. White just wasn't my thing so I got the titanium silver and it's a classy looking watch. I got a super thin black case that pops on it off Amazon so I can change it to all black anytime..
@@ExposedRoot fully agree with all your comments. I wasn't expecting to like it this much, specially the bezel but like you said, just the tip of the finger around it and the haptic feedback completely sold me on it Thanks a lot for sharing your experience !
Its my first smart watch, but I charge when I shower in the morning (wear during sleep), then charge when i get home after work. Twice a day but for 30mins per charge, usually down to 65-70% lowest. Guess it depends on charging habbits and usage, fyi, I leave all features on.
Yes finger's crossed. The Classic 6 was randomly laggy then it would get smooth again for a long time and suddenly lag even after a reboot. It was odd but not often, at least mine. Like you, I am hoping these new models completely get rid of that :)
@gabrieltechreviews8185 the 4,5,6 all used essentially the same CPU with some minor tweaks so it's about time we get a massive boost in the watch area. I'm super hopeful this time around. They refined their phones/ tabs so now watches are all thats left:)
@@Iyswift indeed, I would expect a bigger jump this time for sure. I will be keeping an eye on mine to make sure the sudden stutters are a thing of the past :)
@gabrieltechreviews8185 so far I haven't really had any and it's been 2 weeks. It's honestly super impressive. And coming from a Watch4 this battery is WAY better. Is yours still good?
I dont have that model but maybe I, or one of the viewers can offer some advice. I was looking at this: manuals.denon.com/AVRX2800H/EU/EN/DRDZSYyrtgycpw.php
@@gabrieltechreviews8185 Hello Again. Here's the issue: I am only running a simple 5.1 setup with a new Denon X2800 - which pretty much functions like a 3800 - and the only source that's connected to the receiver is a Panasonic UHD Blu-ray player via HDMI. When we watch discs with 5.1 soundtracks, the Denon automatically engages either the Dolby Surround upmixer (for Dolby sources) or the DTS Neural:X upmixer (for DTS sources). Now, I could switch to the direct sound modes for those signals, such as Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-HD, etc., but I leave them engaged so two channel soundtracks, whether mono or stereo, are automatically steered properly into the center and other appropriate channels. If I DON'T leave the upmixers on, I would have to press the green button on the remote every time I switch discs and need to use the upmixer for a stereo/2.0 channel track. Now, I'm concerned that the upmixers are doing something or changing something when I use them with regular 5.1 soundtracks - but I'm not sure because there's nothing to "upmix" when using a 5.1 channel system and listening to a 5.1 channel soundtrack. Do you see what I'm asking? Do these upmixers alter the sound of 5.1 tracks when engaged on a 5.1 system, or are they ignored because there are no speakers to "upmix" to? Also -- how does leaving the Speaker Virtualizer on in the setup menu affect the Dolby Surround/DTS Neutral X upmixers, if at all? I know this setting is for creating a pseudo Atmos effect with a 5.1 system, but does it directly affect the upmixers when engaged? We have in ceiling surround speakers (for normal 5.1 surround), so should I be using the Virtualizer at all?
@@roland2371 you know, after calibration I don't think you will go wrong with either for music. Hard to tell differences imo so that wouldn't be something I would use to pick between them personally
I run three jtr 4000 in my theater. I grabbed a pair of the sw15 for my little living room setup. Love them and hell of a value. Very clean sub measured distortion in rew close mic. Hell of a value
@@gabrieltechreviews8185 it actually was neck and neck with distortion with cap and my buddy funk sub until 30hz. Of course this is within output limits and the jtr and funk have a lot more output. But we were seriously impressed with the starke.
I have a 7.4.4 system today. 4 subs (actually 3 and 1 sofa kicker) and 4 Atmos ceiling speakers. Everything except for the kickers are from SVS. My "old" Anthem MRX 1120 was in an accident and has to be trashed. I wasn't ready to spend anything close to the current Anthem MRX 1140 so I started to look around. Apart from the receiver I have an external 3 channel power amp for the fronts and the center. So can you please confirm that the X3800H and the X4800H are able to give me a "full 7.4.4 experience" with the hardware I already have? Keep in mind I still want to use the 3 ch power amp for the front and the center speakers (large ones from SVS). Basically then I would need to be able to setup which channels to activate the built in amplifier in the Denons in. Is this possible?
Yes you can set the 3channel amp for LCR and then assign the rest of internal amps to your other speakers. The flexibility of the 3800h is great in that regard. Also, since you have 3 subs and a kicker you can take advantage of making the 4th LFE channel a transducer output so if you like, for a clean signal to your shaker without any of the EQ applied to the subs. It should work great for you!
@@gabrieltechreviews8185 First of all, wow, that's a quick response!! Thanks a lot for putting time in responding. Also creds for your straight forward, authentic and very personal review and thoughts in your video. It is, without exaggerating, a very rare sight on RU-vid these days. Back to the topic... :) I've used Anthems "ARC" calibrating software which is very sophisticated and the setup itself is awesome with their PC Software. But I think the results have been pretty darn bad, atleast in my dedicated "cinema" room in the basement. With that said... 1) Do you think Audyssey will be able to calibrate down to the ~16hz that my SVS-SB16's are able to produce? Does it have the same functions as a dedicated external DSP has? Note: I've been using "Dspeaker" but have had issues with disturbances in those devices, and I cant recommend it. 2) Did you listen to the X3800H and X4800H back to back? No major difference in sound quality? I fully agree with you, I really dont want to spend that extra money if there is not very obvious advantage. They can say anything about their fancy signal processing etc, but it needs to be CLEARLY proven.
Good morning from Melbourne, After watched your video I bought new Denon 3800 yesterday. I am setting up now. I watched your media player video also. Past I was using Onkyo TXNR 636 + Firetv 4KMAX for Netflix, Prime and VLC player for downloaded 4K Atmos Content. Now I am upgrading Receiver and adding 4 ceiling speakers for Auro3D I need your suggestion do I need to upgrade VLC to PLEX and FireTV 4K MAX to NVidia Shield Pro to get Atmos and Auro3D ? My confusion is When Denon AVR has all features VLC and FireTV pass through Audio then what is the need of Plex and Nvidia. Kindly Reply
Nice review, Luis! After the UTHA event, I decided that I needed more bass than what my pair of SVS PB2000s are providing and decided to take advantage of the current Starke sale prices. I have two of the SW15Ps being delivered tomorrow! It's nice to see that you're happy with the performance, considering that this purchase was a leap of faith for me with a minimal amount of research. I just happened across your channel while researching them further.
@vamsikrishnakamireddy6208 The SW15P subwoofers are on a completely different performance level than my old PB2000s. My first impressions of the Starke subs came by simply swapping them with the SVS, no additional EQ, Audyssey or anything. The air in my rather large room suddenly had a weight in the air I had not experienced previously. After my MiniDSP 2X4HD arrived, I integrated the PB2000s back into my system in a nearfield position, they honestly didn't add much to the overall low frequency response in my room but do add a little more rumble in my couch. I would gladly share a picture of the REW chart to prove my observations, but can't post it here. Bottom line is that for a no frills, basic subwoofer, I don't think the Starkes can be beat at their normal price. If you pick them up on sale like they now are, they are an incredible bargain.
Great review - thanks for your insight. I actually have the TV2112 also and am looking at both of these as options for a second sub so this was very helpful. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on how these compare to the PSA. My downstairs room is somewhat similar as well, roughly 30*15 with 7.5' ceilings with a lot of acoustic challenges because of the way I have to arrange the TV and furniture (layout is wide rather than long due to columns). Thanks again for all the details!
Hello. So the tv2112 has a ton of output we you know :) It will also dig deeper but at the same time the Starke is pretty "violent" for movies which surprised me. My basement is a tough one because is 57x17 and then completely opened to another section is like like 20 something x 20 something but the Starkes are surprisingly capable of filling the room with good amount of energy. Anything I like is they do protect themselves every well so you can push them without hearing odd noisesll. The psa was a bit more finicky with some movies when pushed with beq for example, Pixels when the pacman first appears and is running away from the good guys , the PSA will make a weird pop sound of pushed too hard. The Starke seems to limit itself to not embarrass itself in such a case hahahah I would try it especially today as I think they are running a memorial day sale . Still when it comes to sheer output, the PSA is on a other league yet the extra power is at a level so loud for my taste, that is irrelevant for MY needs Thanks for the kind words!!!
Have you also tested "Dirac Multi Bass Control" against your manual calibration with the MiniDSP? Does Dirac perhaps do this even better? I currently have 4 subwoofers manually calibrated with the MiniDSP + REW on my Yamaha A4A and would like to know if Dirac is worth it.
@@jensdetmering7932 hello. Sorry I never got a notification for this comment. Yes I am currently using it only with external amps. Before I was using 7 channel amp and then the AVR for atmos
The rp14000 measures very good from what I saw but based on what I experienced between the rsl 12s and the Starke for movies, I would guess the Starke will have the upper hand for movies over the rp1400. Of course, until I try one this will only be my best guess. I think they are doing $700 memorial day pricing on the sw15p so it's the best time to grab them :)
@@gabrieltechreviews8185 thanks for the reply I was leaning toward the starkes until shipping was calculated lol which makes them a tad bit more than the rp1400sw on adorama (on sale as well).
Love the comments "what about this brand, what about that brand, why didn't you include this or that." Wellllllll Because that's this review? Most of these reviews are done in someone's actual home with a certain amount of power, neighbors, space and $$. Maybe some of you should invest in a warehouse and you can test 2,5,8, heck even 30 subs at once!!
Thanks for that!!!! Yes most of my tests are ones I did for myself to find the gear that works for me and I decided to share my findings in case it helps someone else. But like you said there are many limitations in $$ and time as this doesn't pay my bills so I appreciate a comment like yours :)
I don't know much about dj gear but I dint think this is the type of sub for that. I think they are usually more mid range driven with lots of output there not so much low end
@JamaicaSocial and they are $1250 plus shipping. By that same token a PSA is better than the HSU, JTR is better than PSA...Hardbottle is better than JTR and so on ;)
... to clarify, I would expect basic information such as: What is the rated output of this amp, under what conditions, load, signal, etc. (all channels driven of course)
Looking at the web page for this amp, it does not look like something for a quality product or a competent company. Am I missing something? This looks more like a budget amp ($500) not something for $2k. Where are the manuals and spec sheets?
Care to elaborate? Audioholics also reviewed one of their amps and subs and were very happy with what they found so I wouldn't judge a book by its cover. I wouldn't swap my monolith 7x for a Fiera8 if I didn't feel it was worth it.
Looks? Is that how you are "evaluating" a product??? Well first it is NOT $2000, so check your "facts" and if you do not have experrience with it then why spread misinformation with zero facts???
To clarify, this is a class D amp.. There is no such thing as Digital Amps. Sorry for using the wrong term. Do you own a Class D Amp? Which one and how is your experience?
There's no such thing as a digital amp. It's a common misunderstanding. When class D amps started becoming more popular back in the 90's, some manufacturers called them digital because of the D. It doesn't stand for digital. Some class D amps use digital technology to run the transistors, but the signal you hear stays analog from input to output. I have 3 or 4 class D amps, but they're pro amps. I would never use them to listen to music. I know some people use pro amps in their home audio systems, however one of my friends talked me into trying the ones I had because I have a few different brands, and they just sounded terrible. My dealer lent me a Rowland class D amp and it was a big step up in sound quality, and price of course, but it wasn't good enough to make me switch. In time I think class D amps will improve to the point where they sound as good as traditional designs. Maybe in a few years, but for now, I'll keep what I have.
