They make the boot out kf those materials because you're buying the upper material and the last / fit and thats it. 99% of people wear their footwear from a home to a car to an office to a chair and back again. They ain't blowing their shoes and boots apart with wear. Aa for AE, everything they make in the USA runs down the exact same line under the exact same processes. The Higgins mill was made to a spec and the shell modles are really just a different upper leather to them. Beyond AE only Alden has consistent shell availability in boots for under $1k at the moment (oh and you can try them on before taking them home)
Texon is a cotton or wood based board. Also used in cars for various purposes. Hiking boots use it all the time as do a LOT of footwear. The Higgins Mill was probably designed for comfort first so they specced the Texon and foam. If you REALLY want to and have the cash, a cobbler can make you a big thick veg tanned leather insole and re-insole ans re-last the boots fir you
A leather heel counter or leatherboard is nice. A celastic one (plastic doped canvas) can be broken / cracked and once molded to a heel they can't really be remolded well.... 99% of all footwear on Earth uses a plastic or celastic heel counter. Leatherboard can also be brken but it's more springy and molds faster than full leather. Full leather can't really be broken and it can be re-molded. Fwiw most toe puffs / toe stiffeners are celastic even if the heel counters are leather/leatherboard.
Their 2030 fits me very well. I went down a half size from my Red Wing Mocs in the 23 last. The Viberg fit me better truth be told. As far as the widths go, I was under the assumption that just as the numbers shift going from US to Viberg, that hold true with respect to width. E in Viberg terms represents an average width, as does a D in US sizing. I don’t think Viberg assumes the average foot is wider in Canada for example.
@@thomasdraper8935 I’ve never been interested enough in Wesco to learn their terminology, so I have no idea what they call it. It’s 1.5 inches from the ground to the top of the midsole if that helps at all.
Hey man great video. Love those boots! That's exactly what I want. Couple of Questions: What kind of boot are they? And where is the soft toe option? Please and Thanks,
@@raymondhunt050 These are their free range boots. They come with a soft toe by default. On the Wickett & Craig ones you can actually pick a vbar sole, otherwise they come on a wedge.
@@beagler4234 Ah you got to start wearing them? I was looking around hoping to see some pics of how that leather looks with some wear. There’s like nothing I could find. How they treating you so far?
@@aChannelAboutBoots awesome. Love the look and the fit. I’ve only worn them a hand full of times so no real wear yet but they are great to dress up or wear with jeans.
@@toneohm The end of may. So around four and a half months. I’m still waiting on a pair of burgundy horsehide ones from them which I’m almost at six months now.
@aChannelAboutBoots good Lord.. And now they're bogging down with the Gallun preorder, now the Drifter 3.0.. I ordered Memorial day from Bakers.. they forgot my order and didn't put it in until like mid July.. I was pumped initially.. back in your Semi Dress MTO video.. you're like.. yeah, this was only three weeks wait.. Those smooth wait times didn't last long it seems
@@toneohm Oof. Yeah from Baker’s is so much longer than direct from Whites. Are people waiting longer times for the Gallun stuff now? I got my custom ones in a little over a month.
MP is thinner leather than other White's, because it's meant to be a "lifestyle" boot. It would make more sense to compare the Bounty Hunter/350 Cruiser to Nicks and Frank's.
@@EDHBlvd I need to call whites and ask if they would do the swing last on the mp-m1 pattern. Could be a decent approximation of the Viberg 2045 boondockers I have since Brett Viberg doesn’t seem to want to make them. Going to do that Monday.
@@aChannelAboutBoots ohhh that is a great idea. Hey is Whites still making your MTO’s quickly like you mentioned in your video on the Semi Dress? I might need to call them. I’ve lost my appetite for waiting on long lead times.
@@EDHBlvd yeah I recently got a custom from the Gallun shrunken calf release from them that took a month. Got it the beginning of this month, so pretty recent.
Got a pair of Bordon Tukanos on this leather. Really great leather. I did some hiking in Turkey since I ordered them w/ a goodyear commando sole. It ages beautifully. That orange deepens into a brownish/orange.
I ordered a MP in the 55 last through bakers, but got scared when I saw others online with a higher heel and somewhat over all odd shape to them. So I requested they change it to the MP last. But seeing these, I'd be very happy if they came out looking like this. Sounds like it's a gamble whether mine would have looked like these or the goofy looking ones online? I got a 8.5ee. Maybe the heel hight has something to do with the length? Idk?
MP last is much narrower than 55. From experience would not recommend MP last if you have wide feet. I wish had ordered mine in 55 last like my bounty hunter
Haven't been able to get into the 55 in the MP pattern, aesthetically. I have one pair of MP's but many pairs of 55, and prefer the arch in the 55. The 5050's usually have a much taller block heel, which looks bad IMO. I like the look of these, though. You likely feel the arch more in the new ones as the 55 is rocked back and placing more weight in the back of your arch/heel. Good video!
@@___demo yeah I really wish there was more information they would put out on what the heel is actually going to look like on your boot. I’m not really a fan of really tall block heels. Thanks for watching!
I just received my order today for the exact same boot. The same, except mine came with a toe cap. The website said toe caps were not available with this leather. I guess they changed their mind when they made my pair. I love the W&C leather, which is why I ordered these.
Heck yeah dawg, I just got my White's 9338 swing last bad boys and I'm in love. I've always had fourth toe crunch as an issue, and have to size up .5-1.0 in everything to fit my toes (wide doesn't really solve anything because my foot isn't wide or particularly thick, just my chunky toe spread and no taper). I Brannock 12D and wear a 12D in Barrie/Trubalance and a 12 in most Vibergs. It's fine, but they all feel big. I got a 11.5D in the White's 9338 and it's a great fit. Normal ankle/heel, low vamp, narrow midfoot, and the widest friggin' toebox in the history of time and space. My other favorite last is the Alden 379x, which I wear in a 12D. It has a narrow heel, normal vamp/instep, narrow midfoot, and a good round toebox that I also find pretty accomodating. Not as perfect as the 9338, but pretty great itself.
But be warned: these are clown shoes. They look better in photos/video than in person. In person, they're startling. Baker's/White's actively encourages you not to order these because they get returned so much. But I love it. If you have toe crunch issues and an otherwise normal fit, 9338 (or Alden 379x or Viberg 2040/45/55) could be your miracle shoe.
How long did it take for the sole of the White's to become flexible? I recently bought a C350-CS LTT, and it has the half-slip sole with the 2021 wedge like yours, but it's got no flex at all. Instead of there being a nice heel to toe rolling motion, my feet slap against the ground when I walk. 😂
@@Sub-Machinist Don’t know for sure. Wasn’t paying attention. Maybe around a month? That’s how long it usually takes me before PNW boots start feeling a lot more comfortable. Wedge soles do seem to resist flexing more at first though.
How do they feel underfoot when you use them for a while? I love the fit and comfort of the White's 55 but am very tempted by this particular model as well.
@@sayeedsalim They feel great after they’re broken in. I can’t really tell any differences in comfort between different boots with veg tan leather insoles most of the time. It is flat as far as arch support goes. So it feels nothing like the 55 last. I’ve been wearing them with the nicks delta arch insert. So they have some arch support now.
Excellent! And, yes, I did enjoy the video. Smart move marking the measuring spot. Those Whites really look like a nice boot. I'm sure they both are, however.
@@Tallnerdyguy Yeah the 2021 is softer. I went over the durometer readings for them both in the first video. I can’t remember the numbers off the top of my head.
Thanks for making this video, man! I'm on the hunt for this exact color, albeit in a different Nick's configuration (10" HNW), but this is exactly what I'm after and you described it masterfully! Seriously, when you pointed out the purple-ness and showed it's pull-up, I went full chub haha. And btw, I'm also a watch nerd - are you rockin a Damasko??? 🤘😎
@@Peter-mcmcmc Glad it was helpful. This leather in a 10 inch boot would be glorious. Yup it’s a Damasko. Lot of different interests just seem to naturally overlap.
@@aChannelAboutBoots - Thanks for confirming. Once I saw your bracelet, I was pretty confident. Great channel, bud; I subbed. Curious how they've worn for you in terms of patina (are you pleased)? Also interested in how you're liking your Trumans? They're a brand who's got my interest, but I see/read mixed. Do you like yours and have they worn well (in terms of comfortability)?
